Sugar Factory Closes? Natalie Dormer spotted Filming Audrey’s Children & Iroquois Returns

Thanks to Nicole Michalik for tipping me off on the possible closing of Sugar Factory on Chestnut Street in Center City.

I headed over yesterday to see for myself, and sure enough there is a sign on the window saying “Closed Permanently”

They were always packed so I was surprised they closed this spot. I see the named key chains were popular.

If they have indeed closed, someone needs to jump on this beauty of event space.

I called to confirm, but no one answered. Open Table says they’re having plumbing problems. Calendar is taking reservations for 10/2/22. Cross your fingers, they will return.

In spring 2022, the Association for Public Art (aPA) temporarily removed Mark di Suvero’s Iroquois sculpture from Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway for major conservation restoration. Acquired and installed by aPA in 2007 thanks to the generous support of the late David Pincus, the red-orange I-beam sculpture was in need of a thorough paint job after 15 years of being exposed to the elements, which left the surface faded, chipped, and worn. This week the Iroquois returns with a fresh, brighter look as part of a PA’s 150th anniversary.

Thanks to my husband, Mike Toub for taking this shot Audrey’s Childre of Natalie Dormer filming on 9/13/22 at the future home of the African American Museum at 18th and Vine.

I’ve been so busy, I haven’t had a chance to photograph the latest movie filming in Philly, thank you to my readers for your tips:

Audrey’s Children“, a biopic about the incredible true story of Dr. Audrey Evans, co-founder of the original Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia in 1974!

For an entire week it filmed only a few blocks from my house. On Sunday it filmed around City Hall. I hear it’s soon going inside buildings to get “hospital scenes.”

“In 1970 when nearly all children with cancer die, an unconventional and brilliant oncologist breaks all the rules in an effort to revolutionize treatment methods and to provide housing and support to families of sick children,” reads the film’s IMDb page

Philly Gossip: Sally Field and Andre 3000 Jump Rope on Dispatches from Elsewere, Plus a New The Servant Teaser

Hope you’re out and about enjoying this beautiful day. I have a feeling that we are now w/i months of our first snow storm.

The new IPhone takes great photos, but not so great through windows with yellow street lights…just saying.

Thanjua welcoming Jason Segal to her neighborhood, he’s a few feet in front of her.

Thursday I started getting tips that Dispatches from Elsewhere with Jason Segel, André 3000, Sally Field, Eve Lindley and Richard E. Grant, would be filming on Locust St, but as I am in the middle of Social Season I didn’t think I’d be able to catch them. Luck be a lady, after my Friday night event I heard they were just starting to film. I was a little surprised they could secure a set on Locust St on a Friday night, but they did. I headed to my favorite deli Schlessinger’s and got a front row seat.

Although the reflective window was a bit to deal with I think you can make out Andree 3000 and Sally Field.

Although I had my camera with me, but I took these photos with my phone as I didn’t want to create a ruckus as sometimes happens when a paparazzo is on the scene. Everyone was great and recognized me, including Jason Segel who gave me a thumbs up and greeted me with a big smile when he saw me through the window at Schlessinger’s. That was very nice.

Earlier in the day they were filming at 832 Lombard Street. Thanks to a PhillyChitChat instagram follower for sending me this shot. There’s a smiling Jason in front of the window. If you’re keeping track, this is probably filming for the 6th episode of the 10 episode series. Filming is scheduled to continue through November.

M Night Shyamalan’s new Apple TV Series formerly called Crumpet, now called The Servant has dropped. The new TV series was filmed in the Philadelphia area. See you tomorrow on PhillyChitChat. Follow me on Instagram, Twitter and FB for up to the moment happenings.

Celebs in Philly: Queer Eye, Sally Field, Meek Mill, James McAvoy Married? and Jeffree Star

Philly Wood is in high gear between Queer Eye and Dispatches from Elsewhere filming around town. Let’s get started with Philly Gossip here on chitchat every Sunday. Thanks to all my readers for the tips and photos you sent. Some with credit, others want to be anonymous but are just fans who want to support the fun in Philly. I really appreciate it.

Dispatches from Elsewhere filmed through the night in Rittenhouse Square on Friday. There must have been a hundred extras, and they also recruited a few who were hanging out in the square that evening. There was a sign at all entrances to the center of the square which said you may be in the TV series if you are anywhere in the square that evening as they had a camera on a boom doing sweeps. Check out photos from the shoot here with Sally Field, Andre 3000, and Eve Lindley here, FIND OUT WHERE the TV SHOW is based, plus photos from Friday Night’s Shoot >>> Philly Voice Monday and share some never before insider chit chat. I’ll put a link here when it goes live.

Before heading over to Rittenhouse Square to film on Friday, Dispatches filmed a scene in Elixir Coffee Rittenhouse 207 S Sydenham St, with Jason Segal. He had a long day, as the film wrapped at 430am on Saturday. Remember to follow me on Instagram, where I often video scenes of the movie shoot in real time in the Insta Stories. PhillyChitChat

BTW look who stopped by the set on Friday night, James McAvoy (Split, Glass) and Lisa Liberati (James met Lisa when he filmed the movie Split here in Philly, and they’ve been together ever since.) to visit a few of their friends in the film industry. They later headed across the street to enjoy dinner at Parc. Later in the evening James met his idol Sally Field, where he stated I don’t believe you should ever meet your idols, but in this case I did and it wasn’t a disappointment. I don’t want to start a rumor but is that a wedding band on Lisa’s finger?

He’s in town to star in Segel’s AMC TV series Dispatches from Elsewhere, which I told you about last Spring. We hardly knew you, Frankie Ann’s, formerly Rembrant’s in Fairmount has closed. The eatery located at 741 N. 23rd St. was open just about a year, but never took hold. Recently they filed for a variance to have a roof deck and faced opposition from the neighborhood.

But that wasn’t their only problem, their food was never above bar standard. I had the worse nachos in my life there last month. Marilyn and I were just shocked, as we’re big nacho fans. I didn’t post it because I could tell they were hurting, and didn’t want to be the last person to put a nail in the coffin. I had met the owner last year and he was super nice guy, plus he named the place after his wife, I really wanted it to succeed, but you have to have good food. We now have two iconic Fairmount restaurants looking for new operators – The London Grill and the former Rembrandt’s.

I always tell my readers if they want to meet new people to check out a meetup.com group of their interest. It’s a no pressure way to meet people, folks who have similar interests as you, maybe a future BFF or spouse. I went to the Fairmount Photo Club on Saturday. I learned a few things, you don’t have to be from Fairmount, there were people from all over Philly, the burbs and even SNJ there. Plus you don’t have to own a camera, some people used their phones, like the guy there 2nd from the right. So join us next time of check out one of the other 1000s of groups to find your interest.

Monday a new advertiser started with PhillyChitChat – Maria Quattrone, real estate expert CEO of RE/MAX @ HOME – Philadelphia. Check out this featured listing at 730 Fitzwater.

Ghetto Cowboy starring the sexist man alive – Idris Elba – will begin filming in North Philly in August for a month. They’re looking for cast and crew.
Grab an August issue of Vanity Fair as Idris Elba is on the cover, with a great story inside to familiar your self with the man.

I caught Patti LaBelle at Parx Casino’s Xcite Center on Friday. She was flawless as can be, performing a 90 minute set on stage as if she were 40 years younger. The godmother of soul is 75 years young she told the crowd. Have you been to the Xcite Center yet. It’s an intimate setting with about 5,000 comfortable seats, everyone with a decent view. There are still tickets left for Cheech & Chong, Air Supply, JB Smooth and Jethro Tull.

Insider Fun Tidbits of the Filming of Untouchables in Philly

The movie Untouchables (or Untouchable cause it’s been written both ways in the press) rolled into town the first week of February, which was perfect timing for me as it gets slow around these parts for me in the winter months between social seasons.

HD1_2673 (Medium) (Custom)
The very first day they set up shop filming scenes inside the former Family Court soon to be a Kimpton hotel, a friend was nice enough to tip me off and off I was running, literally. I was in the middle of lunch with my friend Phyllis, at our favorite Little Pete’s. I didn’t finish lunch, I dropped a twenty and I was off. Not knowing the schedule, I wasn’t sure if this would be the only time I would catch the stars, Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston filming, and so it’s important I get them as soon as I can as to reference them for the rest of their stay if I needed too. Fans photos are great, but I like to use my own when possible.  The first thing I noticed was the security for the set was much more relaxed than in years gone by, which was great. There’s nothing worse than being constantly harassed and threatened by security. I’m there to get a few shots, and then I’m gone, as is most photographers that wander onto the scene. Usually the actors are wearing the same outfit for the entire day, so you only need a couple shots. Kevin Hart obliged, and was a nice guy to boot.  That’s his assistant next to him, and a film PA or production assistant behind him.

Here are the extras having lunch. Casting was done by Heery-Loftus, so if you want to be in a film shot in Philly, contact them.

A Car (3) (Custom)

Over the weekend a reader was nice enough to tip me off to Monday’s filming. It was going to be a car scene on Broad Street and 16th Street. Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston were in the scene. Untouchables is one of those movies set in NYC, but filmed in Philly because we have, and we are trying to keep our Film Tax Credit (FTC). Sharon Pinkenson, and the Greater Philadelphia Film Office have done an awesome job at procuring films for our area. The FTC are a real value to our are as moving making generates jobs, as well as the local economy as cast, crew and others need hotel rooms and food.

Fan recognize Hart (Large) (Custom)

Monday I headed to the set at 730AM, which was a job in itself as I am a night owl. I went to Broad Street, and it was quiet. There was no sign the road would be closed so I started questioning myself if this was really happening, because if you don’t have “The Call Sheet” which spells out the days schedule, then you are relying on tips. I did see the no parking signs, so that was a good sign. I remembered that in the afternoon they were filming on Arch Street so I ran over there. Yep there were cars lined up to film a driving scene. This is my favorite photo.
Kevin Hart is driving the car with Bryan Cranston in the passenger seat. Kevin made a left from Arch onto Broad Street. The guy in the middle of the street recognizes Hart. It was so great.

Untouchables
It was hard to shoot the celebs as they stayed in the car the whole time, and the sun was streaming on half their face. I wonder if they’re going to re-shoot these scenes. See the camera on the dashboard, then it was transported via wifi to the camera van that was driving behind their car. I got a good work out chasing the car down Broad and up 16th street, enough that Kevin Hart and his team noted I was the energizer bunny. It was amazing to see how they filmed this scene without closing the road. Two police cars, which the production pays for, lead the Ferarri, and then 2 vans followed the car as they made the loop City Hall to right on Spruce, then right on 16th to Market and another right back to Broad Street.

In the evening it was easier to get shots of the two as they were filming them exiting and entering the car

Night Shoot Fed Ex (Large) (Custom)

Although one serious moment ensued when during the filming, note the extra on the right, a real life Fed ex delivery guy didn’t realize they were filming a move and walked right into the scene and opened the door to make the day’s delivery. It was fairly obvious that a film was filming there but you know neither snow or rain will stop, oh wait ….

HD1_4025 (Large) (Custom)Kevin Hart and Brian Cranston were so awesome on the set.

HD1_4073 (Large) (Custom)

Posing for the photographers, a paparazzo actually came down from NYC as well, selfies with fans, and signed for grafters.

Z Fan hands Hart Meek Mill photo and he signs it Meek Mills (Large) (Custom)
OH boy another crazy funny thing, this autograph seeker brought photos for Kevin Hart to sign, except one of them was of Meek Mills. Kevin Signed it “I’m not Meek Mills” and also signed it with his own name. That’s unique. The graph guy said it was just a bit of deslexyness cause the duo had just taken in the Sixers game the night before and he accidentally grab Meek’s picture as well.

Monday night Julianna Margulies arrived on the set, it was a surprise since she wasn’t listed on the IMDB, which is the official list of who’s who in the movie. But I was ready as I had heard she was coming.  (They’re just like us, they carry their own luggage)

Kevin Hart leaves the Bellevue (Custom)
Tuesday and Wednesday filming moved to the Hyatt at the Bellevue. Thanks for the great photo.

Untouchables

Kevin posted this shot to his instagram, it’s a scene from the movie. Did you know that Brian Cranston’s character
is in a wheelchair and Kevin Hart is his caretaker, Dell. This scene is in the classy XIX restaurant. Also in this scene is Julianna Margulies
who goes on a date with Cranston’s character Phillip.

Untouchables
As I mentioned on the CBSPhilly piece, men’s photos don’t get picked up as much as the women’s. The NYC paparazzo did get a placement in People Mag online of Kevin and Brian from Monday’s shoot in Tuesday column. And here is my first placement in the celebrity column SandraRose. I do this for the local press, to keep my readers informed and. When I worked and things were going on outside, I definitely was curious, so it’s exciting for me to be able to satisfy curiosities. I know people want to know how much these photos are worth, anywhere from $50 to $100 if you can get a placement in People or a magazine of that level. Photographer’s make their money on repeated sales.
There are photos I took years ago, that still sell.

HD1_4290 (Custom)
CBSPhilly called me last week and wanted to do a profile on me and the film, and insider secrets.

Thanks Mike for your awesome camera work.

Untouchables
I told them it would be a long day, but Tori Woodill was a willing participant and I think the piece was amazing. Nearly 5 hrs of shooting paid off with a Brian Cranston interview. Interviews of cast during the filming of a movie are nearly impossible to get, but she got a fun tidbit.

Untouchables

So fun

Here are a few pixs that didn’t hit the airwaves. The extras leaving the set and heading to “Holding” for lunch.

Brian Cranston doesn’t have handlers or an entourage. He locks his own trailer.

HD1_4387 (Custom)

Kevin Hart wasn’t on the set that day, I only saw Brian. And although Juliana was on the set I never saw her.

Untouchables

I was nervous about Thursday’s shoot with the 6 – 10 inches of snow predicted. But it never happened. It was cold as heck though. My instincts told me to head to the set about 9AM, I wanted to catch extras roaming about, but most stayed inside. I got two, here’s one grabbing a smoke.

Untouchables

Across the street at the minor stars trailers, a PA was sweeping the snow off the trailer steps. In the CBS segment you saw Desi and Lucy, they are the middle doors in the trailer.

Untouchables

Anther extra. On Thursday they filmed an opera scene with Kevin and Brian. Extras tell me it was hysterical, and the shoot went a little longer
than usual as some of the scenes seemed to be ad libbed, and Kevin was playing comedian, not a far stretch, to Brian’s straight man. They loved it.

HD1_4534 (Medium) (Custom)

After about 30 minutes Kevin exited the Kimmel Center to go back to his trailer, and I was able to grab this shot. I left right afterwards cause I saw the snow in the trees, and it was also freezing.

2-14-2017 9-55-09 AM (Custom)
Friday afternoon and evening the Untouchables headed to Kensington. Production was slow as the neighborhood turned out to greet Kevin Hart. Often times during the filming people would shout out their love for Kevin, and production would have to stop. The crowd would get quiet, but then it would happen again. The production folks tell me it wasn’t a problem, and it was a great shoot. Kevin tried to pose with as many of the fans as possible through out the day.

Untouchables

This past week the production moved to NYC to film exteriors. Here they are at 60th and Park. They also filmed in Tribeca, and in Central Park at the Ice Skating Rink. They’re still in NYC til the middle of next week when they return to the Philly area. Nicole Kidman who is also in NYC this week filming with Kevin and Brian, will be here to film her scenes, but not in Philly, in Bucks County, then at Sun Center Studios. I have heard they will be returning to the streets of Philly to shoot three more times. Then they’re done, but what fun I had. It’s great to see PhillyWood’s bright lights.

Philadelphia

Nicole Kidman Comes to Philly Wood To Film a Movie in February

Nicole Kidman Comes to PhillyWood To Film in February

In October I told you that Philadelphia will be the primary filming location for The Weinstein Company’s The Untouchables, directed by Neil Burger, who also directed Limitless in Philadelphia, written by Jon Hartmere and executive produced by Bob and Harvey Weinstein.

Nicole
Cranston was in town in October for meetings regarding the movie

The Untouchables will star Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston and Philadelphia native, powerhouse comedian Kevin Hart in the US remake of the French comedy, The Intouchables.

Nicole

I just learned today Nicole Kidman has been added to the cast, along with Amara Karan ; I checked the IMDB status of the movie and it had been updated. Yeah, now this will get me out in the freezing cold (although I would have still headed out for Hart/Cranston, this just makes it that much better. It’ll be good to finally photograph another film set, and how wonderful it’ll be to have our film production crews back to work. Thanks definitely goes to the hard working Greater Philadelphia Film Office and Sharon Pinkenson.

Filming is to begin in February I’ve been told, with shooting to be done at Sun Center Studios as well as several scenes shot in Center City.

I see PhillyVoice wrote about the title of the film being changed, and I hadn’t seen it before now (1030PM) . (Source)

Deadline Magazine had a story in yesterday’s post that Kidman was in talks to do the movie, but now that it’s been added to her official IMDB page, I’d say it was a done deal.  Here’s a synopsis of the movie.

A fresh take on the original concept, The Intouchables script is by Jon Hartmere. The original French language film grossed $416 million overseas, and $10 million domestic. Pic told the true story of an aristocrat (Francois Cluzet) who, after being paralyzed in a hang-gliding accident, hires a young man (Omar Sy) from the projects to be his caretaker. The original film was directed by Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano. Kidman would play the role of Yvonne, played in the original by Anne Le Ny, while Karan will play Maggie, the role that Audrey Fleurot played in the original.

CAA and Media Talent rep Kidman, UTA, Principal Entertainment and United Agents rep Karan. (Deadline)
