Why is Sally Field in Philly

Meek Mill, Harry Styles, Sally Field, Idris Elba all in Philly

I’m glad I left the beach earlier than I originally planned cause shooting Tuesday in Philly brought me back to the days of photographing celebs in NYC, they’re everywhere. Thanks to the many ChitChat readers who sent me tips this week, and always. I couldn’t do this column without you.

I headed to the Criminal Justice Center after seeing on social media that Meek Mill would be making an appearance. Unfortunately for him it didn’t go his way, and the judgement was just to schedule an official court date a month later. His team must have been expecting a different outcome as they got a permit for the street closure and set up the area for a victory rally. When Meek came out of the court house media and supporters expected him to ascend the stage and speak, instead he waved and headed for his limo to whisk him away. To read more about the hearing head to PhillyVoice, where I also sent a photo I took.

Ahhh thanks everyone for the tips about the movie “Concrete Cowboys” starring Idris Elba filming in Spring Garden. I was still down the shore and was unable to make it. An anonymous reader sent me this photo of the film crew on set. They were filming scenes in the former SEPTA train tunnel. This is a tunnel which the Rail Yard folks would like to incorporate in their master plan. Last year it was approved a developer could build a 10 story condo on this property – 2100 Hamilton Street. I see work has begun. No sightings of Idris Elba during the shoot, but on Sunday he was spotted at Cake in Chestnut Hill. A tipster also told me he’s been working with a speech therapist to master a Philadelphian accent. He’s British. 6ABC went to the set in search of Idris. This week the formerly titled Ghetto Cowboys, now titled Concrete Cowboys is filming across the street from the Fletcher Street Stables where the cowboys keep their horses.

Then I headed over to the 700 block of Walnut Street to capture a few shots where Dispatches from Elsewhere was filming. This is going to be a frequent filming spot for the AMC TV series as it’s the headquarters of the secret society headed by Octavio played by Richard E. Grant , who wasn’t on scene when I was there but showed up for later scenes. So annoying, he’s the only actor I haven’t been able to photograph yet. I follow him on Instagram and he’s a delight. On set yesterday was Andre 3000, Sally Field and new comer actress Eve Lindley as well as Jason Segel, and Richard E. Grant who I didn’t see.

This past weekend he and co-star Sally Field attended the Barbra Streisand concert at MSG, proving that we are all huge fans of someone and are thrilled when we meet our idols. You have to watch his video, it will brighten your day.

Which brings me to Sally Field. Who doesn’t love her perky personality. She’s played so many beloved characters in our lives – the mom in Mrs. Doubtfire, the mom in Forrest Gump, the mom in Spiderman, Sybil for you old heads like me, Gidget, the Flying Nun, the mom in Places in the Heart, damn it she’s the mom we all want even when we have great moms already.

If you were walking around the Washington Square area you might have been captured on film. You might be in this scene when it airs. Here’s your implied permission with this notice.

The scene was a protest outside the secret headquarters. The costumes were comical. I can’t wait to see how the story line plays out. I’m going to do my best not to reveal story lines by telling you what the actors did in this scene, which was filmed for nearly 10 hrs into the night. I do want the extras to hopefully see themselves in the photos I take. I can’t send individual photos as I have, but will try and publish as many here.

Jason Segel’s AMC anthology series Dispatches From Elsewhere stars Richard E. Grant, Sally Field and Eve Lindley in a 10-episode series. In addition to the on-air story, the show will include viewer engagement elements across multiple platforms. The show will follow a group of ordinary people who “stumble onto a puzzle hiding just behind the veil of everyday life,” per AMC’s description. They eventually discover the mystery goes far deeper than imagined. (Source)

The costumes are perplexing as Andre 3000 and Sally Field, here doing tongue exercises, are dressed for colder weather where actress Eve Lindley is dressed for summer.

Harry Styles stopped over in Philly before heading to UK after filming in Cancun over the weekend. As you know his BF Xander Ritz grew up on the Mainline, where his family still lives. Harry was spotted at the Merion Cricket Club yesterday afternoon where he posed with several fans and servers. In the evening he was spotted at Philadelphia Airport hanging out in the American Airlines Admiral Lounge before boarding a red eye to the UK.

What did the Rolling Stones Do while in Philly for nearly a WEEK! Plus Queer Eye Guys are everywhere, Sally Field is Finally Here.

OK I promised my sources I wouldn’t publish stories on the Stones until after they check out of their hotel as it seems everyone reads PhillyChitChat and they already had fans hanging outside the Rittenhouse Hotel all week, which is why I am publishing this at 4pm. If you’re a celebrity you don’t have to check out by noon.

(Photo: Derek Heidel)
The Rolling Stones plane landed Sunday July 21, with a lot of their family in tow. Most of the band headed to the Rittenhouse Hotel where they occupied nearly an entire floor, including managers, nannies, handlers and more bodyguards than you could count. The more recognizable folks like Charlie Watts, Keith Richards, and Mick Jagger would take the stairs, or service elevators to travel between the floors, often leaving through the little used garage to head out to tour Philadelphia as Charlie Watts did when he headed snuck away to hear music at a local club, or as Mick said during the concert on Tuesday, dodge potholes on his way to Wawa’s.

While Mick was in town he got a lot of food satisfaction, often ordering from local restaurants to deliver, head out to dinner with family members, or order room service from the hotel. He was spotted at dining out twice. Monday night a reader of mine sent me this photo of Mick Jagger, 76 dining with his 32 year old girlfriend, Melanie Hamrick, a ballerina with the American Ballet Theater at Stephen Starr’s Talula’s Garden across from Washington Square. This is a favorite spot of Beyonce and Jay-z’s when they come to town. Tuesday after the concert at the Linc, most of the band members were spotted at Scarpetta, the restaurant inside the Rittenhouse Hotel, except for Keith Richards and Mick . Last night (Wednesday) the entire band except Keith Richards, dined at Morimoto, another Starr Restaurant.

Ronnie Wood, 72 and his wife Sally Humphries, 39 headed there from their hotel The Logan to join the band about 10PM. There’s no beef between the Stones and Ronnie, it’s just a personal preference that Wood like’s the Logan. Ronnie was super friendly at the hotel, and signed and posed for fans.

Before dinner Mick Jagger headed to the Barnes Museum for a private tour about 5:30pm. Jagger’s seventh child, Lucas Maurice Morad Jagger, age 20 accompanied him. Mick posed for a photo with staff, but I guess his son Lucas was camera shy. Then he went back to the Rittenhouse around 7PM, before heading out to dinner for a 10PM reservation dinner with the band and managers. On this particular night, the caravan of cars were less than the normal 10 car detail that followed them to the restaurant, and as elusive as ever Mick went in the backdoor while the others used the front door. Unfortunately for the fans that waited outside the Rittenhouse Hotel all week, no one got any autographs or photos.

There’s been few sightings of the fab 5 in Philadelphia, than Jason Segel or even Mick Jagger, but in the past two days we’ve had 3 sightings. Tan Francis was out and about with his beau in Old City, while Queer Eye food and wine specialist Antoni Porowski was spotted filming a segment for the show Wednesday afternoon at the the popular Queen Village restaurant Cry Baby. The restaurant was full of locals acting as extras, who dined along side them. No word on what they ate as everything is top secret, but I hear the pasta is good. In this photo is owner Bridget Foy. and her parents Bernadette and John. Antoni spent the weekend with his BFF Gigi Hadid and her sister Bella Hadid at their mother’s Yolanda Hadid’s farm in New Hope, who’s neighbor is Zac Posen, his family owns a farm in Bucks County as well.

Earlier this week Queer Eye filmed at The Duke Barber Company at 1530 Locust St, with the shows hairdresser Jonathan van Ness.

Then today koryaversa spotted Queer Eye’s Jonathan in No Libs at the Philadelphia Barber Company ( 1106 N Front St)! When you stop for a quick hair cut and @jvn stops by to say hi! He was so nice and said he liked my beard! I heard he stopped into Love and Honey nearby for lunch (1100 No Front Street) where he ordered chicken fingers, spicy slaw, cornbread with honey and 2 cookies. Sounds delicious.

Dispatches from Elsewhere is filming at 2nd and Market again tonight, inside Stephen Starr’s Continental restaurant. In tonight’s scene will be Jason Segel, Sally Field, who was seen walking down Chestnut Street yesterday carrying a Whole Foods bag, and Andre 3000.

Andre was spotted playing his flute at a Starbucks in Old City. On that note I’m off to get ready for the Philly Style Magazine party. Check back with me Monday for all the glitz and glamour as the magazine celebrates it’s 20th Anniversary!! In the meantime check out Eagles Safety Malcolm Jenkins Hosts Hennessy Paradis Imperial Tasting At Damari Saville with friends. Dispatches from Elsewhere, Paparazzi Shots, A Peek into Cook/Solo K’Far cafe

It might not be cool outside, but I have some cool gossip for you with Thursday’s edition of HughE Around Town.

AMC’s original anthology series Dispatches From Elsewhere began filming Monday. Created by and starring Jason Segel, who will also direct the pilot, Dispatches From Elsewhere is about a group of ordinary people who stumble onto a puzzle hiding just behind the veil of everyday life. They will come to find that the mystery winds far deeper than they ever imagined. Segel executive produces with Scott Rudin ( Scott Rudin is an American film and theatre producer. His notable films include the Academy Award-winning Best Picture No Country for Old Men, as well as Lady Bird, Fences, ), showrunner Mark Friedman, Garrett Basch, Eli Bush, Jeff Freilich and Jones. An AMC Studios production, the hour-long series will include viewer engagement elements across multiple media platforms.

Tuesday Dispatches filmed in 4 locations. South Street, inside the Curtis Center, on Walnut Street at 6th and Walnut,

and on North Broad Street. The show stars Andre Benjamin, Sally Field, Richard Grant and Eve Lindley. Both Jason and Eve were in scenes yesterday. As in my line of business of observing and listening, I am often privy to story lines, you won’t find me spoiling any, but I’ll tell you I like what I’ve heard already. I’ll only report the pieces that are done in public, and you’ll have to wait til the series airs in 2020 to put the puzzle together.

Today they filmed at the Curtis Center again, and then in the afternoon at Suburban Station but not in the Concourse, just in the lobby, the loading dock and on one of the floors. Each hour long episode will take up to two weeks to film. There are 10 episodes. They’ll be plenty of time to see Andre 3000 playing his flute around town. I’m away for a few days, so follow me on social media and I will share tips on what’s happening on set as I hear.

Sabrina DenHamm and Cody Bellinger

When social season slows down, I get to return to my first job ie hobby, as Philly’s paparazzo. Sabrina DenHamm and Cody bellinger, of LA Dodgers , were out walking around @rittrow in Philly before tonights game against the Phillies. Bellinger is in the running to be the 2019 NL MVP

The Harper’s entrance looks fabulous (19th and Chestnut Streets) The tables are ready for K’Far to open as well as you know it’s Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook’s upcoming all-day cafe headed by Zahav pastry chef Camille Cogswell, a James Beard Award winner.

I peeked in and it looks really cute. The prices are really great. I can’t wait to hang out there, maybe all day. OK even though I’m away I’ll have a post on Friday as well. Send me tips and I’ll get those photos and stores for you. Have a great day, HughE @phillychitchat.com

The White Dog Cafe and WMMR’s Preston and Steve will host the second annual Dining Out for the Dogs on Monday August 19, 2019 starting at 5pm to raise funds for Alpha Bravo Canine, which provides trained service dogs to U.S military veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and other combat-related disabilities. We hardly knew you, Frankie Ann’s, formerly Rembrant’s in Fairmount has closed. The eatery located at 741 N. 23rd St. was open just about a year, but never took hold. Recently they filed for a variance to have a roof deck and faced opposition from the neighborhood.

But that wasn’t their only problem, their food was never above bar standard. I had the worse nachos in my life there last month. Marilyn and I were just shocked, as we’re big nacho fans. I didn’t post it because I could tell they were hurting, and didn’t want to be the last person to put a nail in the coffin. I had met the owner last year and he was super nice guy, plus he named the place after his wife, I really wanted it to succeed, but you have to have good food. We now have two iconic Fairmount restaurants looking for new operators – The London Grill and the former Rembrandt’s.

I always tell my readers if they want to meet new people to check out a meetup.com group of their interest. It’s a no pressure way to meet people, folks who have similar interests as you, maybe a future BFF or spouse. I went to the Fairmount Photo Club on Saturday. I learned a few things, you don’t have to be from Fairmount, there were people from all over Philly, the burbs and even SNJ there. Plus you don’t have to own a camera, some people used their phones, like the guy there 2nd from the right. So join us next time of check out one of the other 1000s of groups to find your interest.

Monday a new advertiser started with PhillyChitChat – Maria Quattrone, real estate expert CEO of RE/MAX @ HOME – Philadelphia. Check out this featured listing at 730 Fitzwater.

Ghetto Cowboy starring the sexist man alive – Idris Elba – will begin filming in North Philly in August for a month. They’re looking for cast and crew.
Grab an August issue of Vanity Fair as Idris Elba is on the cover, with a great story inside to familiar your self with the man.

I caught Patti LaBelle at Parx Casino’s Xcite Center on Friday. She was flawless as can be, performing a 90 minute set on stage as if she were 40 years younger. The godmother of soul is 75 years young she told the crowd. Have you been to the Xcite Center yet. It’s an intimate setting with about 5,000 comfortable seats, everyone with a decent view. There are still tickets left for Cheech & Chong, Air Supply, JB Smooth and Jethro Tull.

Why Was Harry Styles in Philly; New Trader Joes; Movie News & Celebs Spotted

Why Was Harry Styles in Philly; New Trader Joes; Movie News & Celebs Spotted in Philly

Hope you all had a great weekend. You’re probably wondering why am I writing my Philly Gossip column on Monday, well I didn’t want everyone showing up a funeral to find Harry Styles on Sunday. Yes, the Harry Styles was in the Philly area over the weekend.

Harry took a Selfie with the American Airline pilot who flew piloted him to PHL yesterday afternoon. He’s actually been seen in the area over the past few months visiting with his friend Xander Ritz, who lives in nearby Wayne, Pa. I first wrote about the duo back in 2015 when they first met and started to hang out together.

This time Harry Styles came to give his friend Xander Ritz support as Xander’s mom Cynthia Ritz passed away last week. Here the duo were snapped eating out last night. Xander’s parents are philanthropic, dad is a popular dentist on the Mainline, while mom, Cindy Ritz, was a longtime steward and volunteer in Radnor, Donations can be made to the Wayne Art Center in her name online here.

I heard a rumor, that the rumored 2nd Trader Joe’s in Center City was well underway on the on the ground floor of the parking garage located across the street from the Convention Center, so I stopped by over the weekend to see for myself. The 1324 Arch St. property is compact at 15,750 of retail space, which is slightly more I learned than the average size of a Trader Joe’s property of 15,000 sq ft including the backroom, storage area and worker’s break room, says Supermarket News. The original rumor was written about by Jacob Adelman, Inquirer back in January. There’s still no official word from the company.

Emmett Smith stopped by Del Frisco’s for dinner last week with a few friends. The Twins Dana and Jen Fioravanti, maîtres d’ at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse posed with their good friend. Also dining out last week was Jeb Bush at Louie, Louie in University City. He was spotted twice last week at lunch. For the past year he has been teaching at University of Pennsylvania as Presidential Professor of Practice role at Penn

PhillyWood is Hot and Happening
Actors James Maslow ( who is best known for his role on Nickelodeon’s Big Time Rush (based on his real-life boy band), and co-hosting CW’s new talent show The Big Stage with Elizabeth Stanton, which started last week. ) and Emily Bett Rickards ( seven seasons as Felicity Smoak on CW’s smash hit Arrow) will be starring in the indie film “We Need To Talk”. The film, written and directed by Todd Wolfe, also features Jonathan Fernandez. deadline.com The film started at the beginning of June and is slated to finish at the end of June. Next up is the Sally Field, AMC TV Series “Dispatches from Elsewhere” is slated to start filming right after July 4th, and run through November with actor Jason Segel directing (last week Jason, who’s been eating up a storm in Philly, was spotted watching the Philly Pride Parade.) Then if that wasn’t enough Kate Winslet, is about to start filming an HBO series Mare of Easttown starting this fall. A detective in a small Pennsylvania town investigates a local murder while trying to keep her life from falling apart. Easttown is near Devon, Pa about 20 miles from Center City. See ya tomorrow!!
