Nick Nolte Nearly Wraps Filming in Philly

Philly has been hot, hot, hot with films lately being shot here including the just wrapped Adam Sandler’s Hustle, which filmed late last year and this past summer. Look for Christian Bale to shoot in our area in December. But for the past few weeks legendary actor Nick Nolte has been filming in our area, especially in Rittenhouse Square, as well as in Ardmore, the art museum area, and in Center City.

Without giving away too much of the plot, the film is about a young man , played by actor Dharon E. Jones (r), last seen in West Side Story on Broadway, who befriends a homeless man Nick Nolte (c) , who lives in Rittenhouse Square and their relationship over the years. It’s directed by Philadelphia native director Brandon Eric Kamin (l), who’s last film was “The Nomads” which was also filmed in Philadelphia.

I caught up with the filming in Rittenhouse Square last week, about 7 days into filming. Nick Nolte was looking very much like we grown accustomed to him looking on the red carpet for the past decade. The set was relaxed and they allowed spectators to watch the action, as long as they stayed out of the scene.

In this scene Nick Nolte was dancing to a busker in the park, played by Sixers personality Christian Crosby, founder of @livelifenice.

Over the years films shot in Rittenhouse Square, “The Happening”, “Paranoia”, “Dispatches from Elsewhere”.

SPOTTED: Rittenhouse movie producer Andrew Greenblatt (l), who is doing double duty these past few weeks as he’s the executive director of both the 23d Philadelphia Film Festival, which is going on now, and the Philadelphia Film Society. Last Saturday night I photographed him at Shyamaween 2021 Benefiting The M. Night Shyamalan Foundation playing Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Check out photos from the party at CBSPhilly

Remember a few weeks ago I wrote about sightings of super model Ashley Graham and her family at the Philly Zoo and Zahav restaurant. Now I know why, her husband Justin Ervin a successful director, is DP (director of photography) on Rittenhouse the movie. I hear she’s been in town for a while, but low key. Their next big production together is the birth of their twins any day now.

As it’s been the very busy social season these days, I really didn’t have time to visit the set daily as well as Nick Nolte wearing the same clothes every day,

but yesterday a reader sent me a photo of Nick Nolte getting a haircut on set, and that is a new look which would motivate me to shoot the set again. It’s like when a celebrity appears at a red carpet event and I’d photograph them there, and they go to the after party, change their dress, which would motivate us to photograph them there as well. I don’t remember if I told you the story of Angelina Jolie, but basically she wears the same black outfit when strolling around NYC. It’s not very motivating for us to get shots of her as she looks the same everyday, just a different location. It’s interesting to note that actor Dharon E. Jones wears the same clothes for both scenes I shot as well.

It was a fun shoot. If you’re looking to work as an extra in any of these films head to Heery-Loftus Casting and apply. Looking to have your home or space considered for a filming location, head to GPFO as they have a form for you to fill out. Thanks to both these companies for bringing films to our area. Support Philly Film Tax Credits. Thanks to my readers who tip me off, which helps me to bring these stories to you. If you are in any of these photos, drop me a note and I will send you a copy. Have a great day!!

Christmas Is Not Cancelled in Philly; Where’s Adam Sandler this week?

Christmas is not cancelled in Philly with the announcement that the very popular Christmas Village is going to pop up again at Love Park for the holidays.

Christmas Village in Philadelphia, the authentic open-air German-style Christmas Market at LOVE Park and City Hall, is excited to announce its return from Thanksgiving Day, November 26 through Christmas Eve, December 24, 2020 with a considerably modified layout and extensive safety precautions in response to COVID-19. In its 13th season, the outdoor market will once again host a Preview Weekend on Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22.

In accordance with all city and statewide guidelines, Christmas Village in Philadelphia will be set up in a socially distanced and safe way featuring only half the amount of vendors, guests will be required to wear masks. This year, visitors can still dine on and enjoy their favorite European dishes including Bratwurst, Raclette Cheese and Schnitzel in a fenced-off and crowd-controlled outdoor food court with spacing between tables.

This year’s outdoor shopping area will be set up with a one-way system around the outer limits of LOVE Park for a linear and spaced walking concept allowing proper social distancing. All vendors will be ten feet apart from each other at minimum. Vendors around the outer perimeter will also all face outward toward the street. Waiting areas for access to the food court and shopping will all be socially distanced. For more info about the new holiday season and all COVID-related changes and precautions, follow @philachristmas on FB, Twitter and Instagram or visit www.philachristmas.com.

Speaking of Christmas,

The other night Adam Sandler and Queen Latifah filmed a scene for Hustle at the Italian Market, which was decorated for the holidays. In this scene the duo play a married couple taking a stroll of the popular market on an early winter evening. We won’t see the production of Hustle for a few weeks now as they’ve headed to Pottstown to film. Then to Oaks and finally they’ll spend two weeks filming scenes at the Coatesville High School’s gym. The school they’re getting over $80s for the privilege as well as a new scoreboard.

Make sure you get out and enjoy the beautiful fall weather and colors we’re having in 2020. I’ll be back tomorrow with photos from my recent trip to NE Pennsylvania. Have a great day.

Around Town: Dispatches Filming; Evan Peters Spotted and More on Hot Dad Bradley Cooper

Hello Thursday. PhillyWood is hot and happening, as the cool fall weather settles in. For me SOCIAL SEASON is in full, from today through 11/3 I am shooting at least 2 events a day. Also going strong since June is Dispatches From Elsewhere this week filming in Center City, plus I have updated news on the upcoming Kate Winslet HBO series and casting. Let’s get started Around Town With HughE

Tuesday Dispatches from Elsewhere filmed on Market Street in the Continental again, a location they filmed at over the summer. Wednesday and Thursday they filmed at Ocean Prime at 15th and Sansom Streets as well as in Rittenhouse Square. Look for them to film on Friday near 9th and Lombard, and then next week return to the Curtis Center Tuesday, my sources tell me. Actor Jason Segel and his girlfriend had dinner at Villa Roma on Tuesday night. Sally Field was finally spotted out, she stopped by the Whole Foods on South Street. She drove herself my friend told me. What?? Poor Sally has to navigate our potholes. Hopefully better than the Queer Eye guys, I heard they got a few flats and were none to happy. Thankfully I see the Streets Department is rolling out new streets as we speak.

Yesterday while walking through Rittenhouse Square Allied Philly’s Jesse Cute caught Sally between scenes sitting on a bench. You’ll have a chance to see Sally Field yourself at the Philadelphia Library on November 1 as she discusses her book In Pieces with Marty Moss-Coane, host of Radio Times on WHYY .
I photographed Hugh Jackson and Kate Winslet at a unique NYC premiere in 2006. It’s posted on my first blog “Confessions of a Paparazzi.”

I wrote in the spring that Kate Winslet will be coming to the Philly area to film an HBO TV Series “Mare of Easttown”, Our award winning casting company Heery Loftus Casting is looking for Caucasian IDENTICAL TWIN (or Triplets) BOYS , age 11 months to 14 months, for RECURRING ROLES on the show. The show will be shooting Nov 4, 2019 through April, 2020 (Maybe Kate will head to the Wells Fargo Center to catch Celine Dion in concert on 2/26) in the PHILADELPHIA SUBURBS. PAID positions. Please send photos, parent names and phone numbers, and date of birth of the boys to: easttowncasting@gmail.com Put “TWIN BOYS” in the subject line. Hey American Horror story fans remember when I mentioned an Evan Peters was spotted at Chickie & Pete’s during an Eagles football game 2 weeks ago, now we know why, he’s in this HBO movie too. Hey gays, Jean Smart from Designing Women is also cast. Here’s the list of cast members.

Last weekend I went to the GreatPHL19 24 hr discussion event. One of the events I caught was art curator Conrad Benner’s live Streets Department podcast of Jane Golden, Mural Arts. After words I got this shot with former Eagles great Connor Barwin, who opened the night. (How lucky are we that Connor Barwin could have settled anywhere else when not on the field, but he chooses Philly cause we are a hot bed of creativity happening here.) I wasn’t there as I was shooting the Greg Wolf Fundraiser in Trenton. The next day I had hoped to go to a dedication of the new Ed Snider mural, but Mural Arts, but the morning sessions at GreatPHL19 were running behind and I really wanted to catch the Eli Kulp talk. It was powerful and exactly what I needed to hear. He talked about purpose, after tragedy, and we are all aware of the Amtrak crash which paralyzed him when he was at the height of his career. It was a story everyone needs to hear. I hope he writes a book.
Ed Snider’s Family – Provided

Saturday was the dedication for the Ed Snider Hockey Mural: Inspiring Our Youth Mural Mural Arts Philadelphia and the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation will dedicate a new mural, Snider Hockey: Inspiring Our Youth. The mural features the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation and celebrates the life and legacy of its founder and the visionary behind the Philadelphia Flyers, the late Ed Snider. The design, created by artist Jared Bader, highlights how Snider Hockey builds lives and unites communities through its on-ice and off-ice initiatives, including mentorship, tutoring, life lessons, and academic support in attending and graduating college. (2037 S. 10th Street (at Snyder Avenue), South Philadelphia, PA )

THANK YOU FOR THE TIPS, especially my instagram follower Mark Curran who sent me this video of Philly’s heart throb Bradley Cooper and his daughter Lea Cooper at the Philadelphia Eagles game on Sunday. Meek Mill, Harry Styles, Sally Field, Idris Elba all in Philly

I’m glad I left the beach earlier than I originally planned cause shooting Tuesday in Philly brought me back to the days of photographing celebs in NYC, they’re everywhere. Thanks to the many ChitChat readers who sent me tips this week, and always. I couldn’t do this column without you.

I headed to the Criminal Justice Center after seeing on social media that Meek Mill would be making an appearance. Unfortunately for him it didn’t go his way, and the judgement was just to schedule an official court date a month later. His team must have been expecting a different outcome as they got a permit for the street closure and set up the area for a victory rally. When Meek came out of the court house media and supporters expected him to ascend the stage and speak, instead he waved and headed for his limo to whisk him away. To read more about the hearing head to PhillyVoice, where I also sent a photo I took.

Ahhh thanks everyone for the tips about the movie “Concrete Cowboys” starring Idris Elba filming in Spring Garden. I was still down the shore and was unable to make it. An anonymous reader sent me this photo of the film crew on set. They were filming scenes in the former SEPTA train tunnel. This is a tunnel which the Rail Yard folks would like to incorporate in their master plan. Last year it was approved a developer could build a 10 story condo on this property – 2100 Hamilton Street. I see work has begun. No sightings of Idris Elba during the shoot, but on Sunday he was spotted at Cake in Chestnut Hill. A tipster also told me he’s been working with a speech therapist to master a Philadelphian accent. He’s British. 6ABC went to the set in search of Idris. This week the formerly titled Ghetto Cowboys, now titled Concrete Cowboys is filming across the street from the Fletcher Street Stables where the cowboys keep their horses.

Then I headed over to the 700 block of Walnut Street to capture a few shots where Dispatches from Elsewhere was filming. This is going to be a frequent filming spot for the AMC TV series as it’s the headquarters of the secret society headed by Octavio played by Richard E. Grant , who wasn’t on scene when I was there but showed up for later scenes. So annoying, he’s the only actor I haven’t been able to photograph yet. I follow him on Instagram and he’s a delight. On set yesterday was Andre 3000, Sally Field and new comer actress Eve Lindley as well as Jason Segel, and Richard E. Grant who I didn’t see.

This past weekend he and co-star Sally Field attended the Barbra Streisand concert at MSG, proving that we are all huge fans of someone and are thrilled when we meet our idols. You have to watch his video, it will brighten your day.

Which brings me to Sally Field. Who doesn’t love her perky personality. She’s played so many beloved characters in our lives – the mom in Mrs. Doubtfire, the mom in Forrest Gump, the mom in Spiderman, Sybil for you old heads like me, Gidget, the Flying Nun, the mom in Places in the Heart, damn it she’s the mom we all want even when we have great moms already.

If you were walking around the Washington Square area you might have been captured on film. You might be in this scene when it airs. Here’s your implied permission with this notice.

The scene was a protest outside the secret headquarters. The costumes were comical. I can’t wait to see how the story line plays out. I’m going to do my best not to reveal story lines by telling you what the actors did in this scene, which was filmed for nearly 10 hrs into the night. I do want the extras to hopefully see themselves in the photos I take. I can’t send individual photos as I have, but will try and publish as many here.

Jason Segel’s AMC anthology series Dispatches From Elsewhere stars Richard E. Grant, Sally Field and Eve Lindley in a 10-episode series. In addition to the on-air story, the show will include viewer engagement elements across multiple platforms. The show will follow a group of ordinary people who “stumble onto a puzzle hiding just behind the veil of everyday life,” per AMC’s description. They eventually discover the mystery goes far deeper than imagined. (Source)

The costumes are perplexing as Andre 3000 and Sally Field, here doing tongue exercises, are dressed for colder weather where actress Eve Lindley is dressed for summer.

Harry Styles stopped over in Philly before heading to UK after filming in Cancun over the weekend. As you know his BF Xander Ritz grew up on the Mainline, where his family still lives. Harry was spotted at the Merion Cricket Club yesterday afternoon where he posed with several fans and servers. In the evening he was spotted at Philadelphia Airport hanging out in the American Airlines Admiral Lounge before boarding a red eye to the UK.
