Happy first day it feels like fall. Lot’s happening this week, parties, festivals, Halloween happenings and celebrity sightings. Philly is Having A Moment. Interesting I heard a few people say this over the past year, and now it’s become somewhat of a slogan. Let’s hashtag that and I will feature your moments on PhillyChitChat once a month.
Kate Winslet has arrived in Philadelphia for a new HBO series “Mare of Easttown”, which films until APRIL. The show will be mostly shot in Delco, in eerie quaint towns my sources tell me. Mare is directed by UofP graduate (This morning I was at an event and one of his friends told me his connection to Philly and this is what I found): Gavin O’Connor who once held the career sacks record at the University of Pennsylvania (The Philly Voice). Mare Of Easttown stars Winslet as a small-town Pennsylvania detective whose life crumbles around her as she investigates a local murder. The cast also includes Julianne Nicholson, Jean Smart, Angourie Rice, Evan Peters, Cailee Spaeny and David Denman. Additional cast-mates have been added (Info). Robert Deniro‘s film with Shia Labeouf scheduled to start in November, now scheduled to start in January. Brrr. But actually much better for me, social season is slow then.
Richard E Grant on set of Dispatches from Elsewhere October 15, 2019 in Philadelphia top left two photos. Eve Lindley and Jason Segel on the set during the evening. The scene was the characters on a “date” sharing a cheese steak from both Geno’s and Pat’s. Good idea. There are 3 more weeks left for filming the AMC TV series who’s cast includes Sally Field and Andre 3000.
The last photo in this set is from the scene I mentioned on Fox 29 on Tuesday, where Octavia played by Richard E. Grant, center photo, jumps in a waiting limo and Andre3000 character jumps into the trunk. For some reason they filmed it out of sequence. I had a chance to see the Call Sheet and it is the same scene as they were trying to match up the protestors to mimic the earlier shoot.
Last weekend Jason Segel headed to the beach for the 3 day weekend. he was spotted in Cape May as well as at the Original Fudge Kitchen in Stone Harbor.
I was on Fox 29 earlier this week chitchatting about the film. It was interesting the scene they shot with Richard E. Grant will be spliced together with a scene they filmed over the summer with Field, and Andre 300. I remember watching that one as well.
Bryan Stevenson, Karan Kendrick, Tim Blake Nelson and Andrew Lanham attend The 28th Philadelphia Film Festival opening night premier of “Just Mercy” at Philadelphia Film Center on October 17, 2019 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 10 days of film for you to enjoy through 10/27.
Marie Roda from the MTV shows The Challenge and Ex on the Beach was shopping at Kin Boutique last weekend. She is pictured with the store’s owner Joey Clark and was in town for an event with other cast members at Punch Line Philly. She is wearing a tie dye a sweatsuit from Stateside that is still available at the store. Kin is located at 1014 Pine Street. (provided)
The weather is looking gold for two meteorologists we know…
Congratulations to NBC10’s Brittney Shipp on her recent engagement with Jontue Long . She celebrated with friends, including co-worker Jacqueline London at the Four Seasons earlier this week.
Central Bucks West High School‘s Caitlin Roth, who used to be the meteorologist at Fox29 before heading to DC’s Fox5 in 2015, recently got engaged to her co worker, meteorologist Tucker Barnes!! Congrats you two!!More good news, looks like the Trader Joe’s near Broad & Arch is about to open on Tuesday.
White Dog Cafe wants to prepare your Thanksgiving Meal. INFO Thanks and have a fantastic, safe weekend….
Hello Thursday. PhillyWood is hot and happening, as the cool fall weather settles in. For me SOCIAL SEASON is in full, from today through 11/3 I am shooting at least 2 events a day. Also going strong since June is Dispatches From Elsewhere this week filming in Center City, plus I have updated news on the upcoming Kate Winslet HBO series and casting. Let’s get started Around Town With HughE
Tuesday Dispatches from Elsewhere filmed on Market Street in the Continental again, a location they filmed at over the summer. Wednesday and Thursday they filmed at Ocean Prime at 15th and Sansom Streets as well as in Rittenhouse Square. Look for them to film on Friday near 9th and Lombard, and then next week return to the Curtis Center Tuesday, my sources tell me. Actor Jason Segel and his girlfriend had dinner at Villa Roma on Tuesday night. Sally Field was finally spotted out, she stopped by the Whole Foods on South Street. She drove herself my friend told me. What?? Poor Sally has to navigate our potholes. Hopefully better than the Queer Eye guys, I heard they got a few flats and were none to happy. Thankfully I see the Streets Department is rolling out new streets as we speak.
Yesterday while walking through Rittenhouse Square Allied Philly’s Jesse Cute caught Sally between scenes sitting on a bench. You’ll have a chance to see Sally Field yourself at the Philadelphia Library on November 1 as she discusses her book In Pieces with Marty Moss-Coane, host of Radio Times on WHYY .
I wrote in the spring that Kate Winslet will be coming to the Philly area to film an HBO TV Series “Mare of Easttown”, Our award winning casting company Heery Loftus Casting is looking for Caucasian IDENTICAL TWIN (or Triplets) BOYS , age 11 months to 14 months, for RECURRING ROLES on the show. The show will be shooting Nov 4, 2019 through April, 2020 (Maybe Kate will head to the Wells Fargo Center to catch Celine Dion in concert on 2/26) in the PHILADELPHIA SUBURBS. PAID positions. Please send photos, parent names and phone numbers, and date of birth of the boys to: easttowncasting@gmail.com Put “TWIN BOYS” in the subject line. Hey American Horror story fans remember when I mentioned an Evan Peters was spotted at Chickie & Pete’s during an Eagles football game 2 weeks ago, now we know why, he’s in this HBO movie too. Hey gays, Jean Smart from Designing Women is also cast. Here’s the list of cast members.
Last weekend I went to the GreatPHL19 24 hr discussion event. One of the events I caught was art curator Conrad Benner’s live Streets Department podcast of Jane Golden, Mural Arts. After words I got this shot with former Eagles great Connor Barwin, who opened the night. (How lucky are we that Connor Barwin could have settled anywhere else when not on the field, but he chooses Philly cause we are a hot bed of creativity happening here.) I wasn’t there as I was shooting the Greg Wolf Fundraiser in Trenton. The next day I had hoped to go to a dedication of the new Ed Snider mural, but Mural Arts, but the morning sessions at GreatPHL19 were running behind and I really wanted to catch the Eli Kulp talk. It was powerful and exactly what I needed to hear. He talked about purpose, after tragedy, and we are all aware of the Amtrak crash which paralyzed him when he was at the height of his career. It was a story everyone needs to hear. I hope he writes a book.
Ed Snider’s Family – Provided
Saturday was the dedication for the Ed Snider Hockey Mural: Inspiring Our Youth Mural Mural Arts Philadelphia and the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation will dedicate a new mural, Snider Hockey: Inspiring Our Youth. The mural features the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation and celebrates the life and legacy of its founder and the visionary behind the Philadelphia Flyers, the late Ed Snider. The design, created by artist Jared Bader, highlights how Snider Hockey builds lives and unites communities through its on-ice and off-ice initiatives, including mentorship, tutoring, life lessons, and academic support in attending and graduating college. Why Was Harry Styles in Philly; New Trader Joes; Movie News & Celebs Spotted in Philly
Hope you all had a great weekend. You’re probably wondering why am I writing my Philly Gossip column on Monday, well I didn’t want everyone showing up a funeral to find Harry Styles on Sunday. Yes, the Harry Styles was in the Philly area over the weekend.
This time Harry Styles came to give his friend Xander Ritz support as Xander’s mom Cynthia Ritz passed away last week. Here the duo were snapped eating out last night. Xander’s parents are philanthropic, dad is a popular dentist on the Mainline, while mom, Cindy Ritz, was a longtime steward and volunteer in Radnor, Donations can be made to the Wayne Art Center in her name online here.
I heard a rumor, that the rumored 2nd Trader Joe’s in Center City was well underway on the on the ground floor of the parking garage located across the street from the Convention Center, so I stopped by over the weekend to see for myself. The 1324 Arch St. property is compact at 15,750 of retail space, which is slightly more I learned than the average size of a Trader Joe’s property of 15,000 sq ft including the backroom, storage area and worker’s break room, says Supermarket News. The original rumor was written about by Jacob Adelman, Inquirer back in January. There’s still no official word from the company.
Emmett Smith stopped by Del Frisco’s for dinner last week with a few friends. The Twins Dana and Jen Fioravanti, maîtres d’ at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse posed with their good friend. Also dining out last week was Jeb Bush at Louie, Louie in University City. He was spotted twice last week at lunch. For the past year he has been teaching at University of Pennsylvania as Presidential Professor of Practice role at Penn
PhillyWood is Hot and Happening Actors James Maslow ( who is best known for his role on Nickelodeon’s Big Time Rush (based on his real-life boy band), and co-hosting CW’s new talent show The Big Stage with Elizabeth Stanton, which started last week. ) and Emily Bett Rickards ( seven seasons as Felicity Smoak on CW’s smash hit Arrow) will be starring in the indie film “We Need To Talk”. The film, written and directed by Todd Wolfe, also features Jonathan Fernandez. deadline.com The film started at the beginning of June and is slated to finish at the end of June. Next up is the Sally Field, AMC TV Series “Dispatches from Elsewhere” is slated to start filming right after July 4th, and run through November with actor Jason Segel directing (last week Jason, who’s been eating up a storm in Philly, was spotted watching the Philly Pride Parade.) Then if that wasn’t enough Kate Winslet, is about to start filming an HBO series Mare of Easttown starting this fall. A detective in a small Pennsylvania town investigates a local murder while trying to keep her life from falling apart. Easttown is near Devon, Pa about 20 miles from Center City. See ya tomorrow!!
