Jennifer Weiner’s new book “Hungry Heart” Book Launch Party at World Cafe

Oh I was so bummed, I planned on attending Friday night’s celebration of Jennifer Weiner’s new book “Hungry Heart” book launch party was a reader appreciation party and celebration, one of a series of four Jen has had all over the country (Boston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New York), but I realized if they were tapping the Brauhaus Schmidt keg to kick off the Armory Oktoberfest Weekend at 7PM, I’d better be there by 6:30PM and at the last minute had to beg off from the celebration. Check out the picks from the tapping of the keg HERE.
Jennifer Weiner
Thanks to Alexa Nahas Photography for sending the following photos to share.

Jen’s readers entered an online contest early in the summer to win tickets to the celebration at the World Cafe in University City.

When singer-songwriter Dar Williams invited Jen to open for her and read from HUNGRY HEART at her Oct 7 concert, we figured it was a perfect spot for the party (and Jen also treated all of her guests to a ticket to the show). It was such a fun night

Effen Soggy Sunday Gossip with 50 Cents, Celeb Sightings, Weddings & Baby

Good Soggy Sunday to you. Last week I was so crazy I missed out Sunday chats, but I’m here today to fill you in on what’s happening in our good town, who was spotted, got married, and had a baby. Plus a list of a few events happening tonight and this week. Hope you have a great day, if you want to stay out of the rain and go crazy the Brauhaus Schmitz Oktoberfest at the Armory has two sessions today. Plus they’ll have a screen to catch the Eagles game, but I doubt you’ll be able to hear it starts at 1PM. There’s also the Columbus Day Parade in South Philly, hosted by Alicia Vitarelli, 6ABC with co host duties by the Geater with the Heater, Old City Fest is happening rain or cloudy today, with most of the action being centered at 2nd and Arch Street; Outfest is celebrating Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgendered Question (LGBTQ) pride in the Gayborhood – 13/Walnut/Locust/Spruce streets

Dave Warren leaves Fox 29 and takes a job at a Miami CBS station. I was kinda surprised cause the last time I spoke with him he said he was staying in Philly and going into business. But I guess if I had an opportunity to continue in my field and live in Florida, especially before the Winter of 2016/17, that’d be pretty attractive too. I’ll miss you Dave and Alissa.

50 Cent

Congrats to Brittany Ann Cormack, Costume Designer. She’s done costume design for many movies, including Voiceless, which was filmed in Philadelphia. Voiceless is about a young, reserved, war veteran, moves to North East Philadelphia to start an inner city community outreach and puts his life on the line to stand against an abortion clinic that moved across the street from his building.  Next up for Brittany Ann working on “Beyond the Rye” with James Caan, Lacey Chabert and Armand Assante.

Friday night I headed to Harp & Crown for the Friends and Family dinner. Delicious, different and delightful are the
words the describe the new eatery, which opens tomorrow. My favs on the menu, The Prawns, they are plated magnificently, the Farra Pasta is wonderful, I can’t wait to go back for more, the olives, the steak, everything basically. Plus they have a bowling alley in the speakeasy bar in the basement. There’s no password to gain access, just go down there or take the elevator. Harp & Crown, at 1525 Sansom St. (215-330-2800),

Photos: Armory Oktoberfest By Brauhaus Schmitz is Not To Be Missed

Last night I covered the Armory Oktoberfest By BrauhausSchmitz (23rd Street Armory), it was AMAZING.  When Kory Aversa told me about this event last Spring, I was excited that Philadelphian’s who hadn’t been to the Hofbräuhaus München in Germany, would get to experience a beer hall of the magnitude of the 23rd Street Armory.

hd1_2034-custom

I didn’t think they could replicate the experience as much as they did. It really was a good time. Congrats to Doug Hager , co owner of Bauhaus Schmitz and Chef Jeremy Nolen and their crew from Bauhaus Schmitz for capturing that spirit. The festival goers were jovial from the get go, and enjoyed every minute from the time they sat down. Another spectacular detail, was the entertainment by German Hungarian Dancers and the amazing Accordian afficinado Alex Meixner.

This will make your night. #oktoberfest @brauhausschmitz #Armoryoktoberfest spotted City Councilman on table

Whole Foods Opening October 14 in Center City – Toast it with Yard’s Pilsendelphia Created for the Special Day

Hot off the Press Release… You know I’m excited about Whole Foods moving 2 blocks closer to my house, and it’s gigantic. I already told you this will definitely be my new “home office”. So when you pop in there’s a good chance you’re going to see me too. If you can’t be there next Friday, follow along on my social media as I live broadcast Opening Day!! I go to Whole Foods about 4 times a month, I usually avoid it cause it’s so busy, but this is a game changer for me and eating healthy. I’m still going to eat my Snap Kitchen as well. In some Whole Foods  they actually have partnered with Snap Kitchen and they carry their lines (Mostly Texas). I know it’s only 2 blocks over, but I’m busy.

Geno’s 50th Anniversary Block Party – And Guess What That Sign Is Not There

‘Geno’s Steaks celebrated their 50th Anniversary on Saturday October 1, 2016 with a block party complete with cotton candy, popcorn, entertainment and of course their iconic cheese steaks. Opened in 1966 by his dad Joey Vento with a couple of hot dogs, some steaks and $6, the South Philly cheesesteak staple is now run by his son, Geno Vento, the namesake of the eatery, even though Geno’s is 5 years away from being 50.

Nearly 1,000 people stopped by through out the 6 hour celebration including Tony Luke, Jr and Frank Olivieri, Pat’s Steaks, where he handed out checks to various charitable organization including Morris Animal Refuge, The Philadelphia Police Foundation, Local 22 Widows Fund, FOP Lodge, Coaches vs Cancer, and Santino’s Dragons.

I grabbed a cheese steak with a visiting friend last week, and I noticed the controversial sign to speak English only when ordering was gone. There are new signs where that sign used to reside, and it says Cash Only. When I was at the anniversary party, Geno’s peeps told me the sign was removed before the DNC as they didn’t want to offend anyone.

Sheena Parveen Is Leaving NBC 10, The Philly Ducks are Outta Here, Jessica Boyington Stays – Philly Gossip
Every Sunday and Thursdays on Philly Chit Chat

Parting is such sweet sorrow, but friends of Sheena Parveen (c) knew the time would come.  I’m kinda jealous she’s heading to DC where our BFF Erin Como (r) lives where she is a Traffic Anchor/Reporter @Fox5DC #GoodDayDC. Sheena and Erin met just as Erin was leaving NBC10 to head to Nashville to do traffic 5 years ago. The two hit it off and became fast buds. Traveling back and forth to hang out, as well as going on exotic vacations. On one of those vacations Sheena met her current bae about 2 years ago, he lives closer to DC than to Philly.  Yesterday the popular meteorologist Sheena Parveen announced she was leaving NBC10 and heading to Washington NBC4 (WRC-TV). Former alumni of NBC10 and CBS3, Doug Kammerer is the chief meteorologist at WRC-TV in Washington, DC. Coincidentally I met Erin Como at Doug’s 35th Birthday party at the Roosevelt in 2010.

Ducks

Bon voyage Sheena to a happy life and white picket fences near the White House.

Ducks

Speaking of Bon voyage, the Philly Ducks are no more. Kinda a bummer, I never did ride the ducks here in Philly, but I do
go to other cities and ride them. I love them, such a unique experience. Seems their insurance went up 330% after a few deadly accidents.

Photos: Feastival 2016 A Delicious Delight for the Past 7 Years

Happy 7th Year Feastival. Over the years I’ve had to miss it as it coincided with my client – Mt Airy’s Fall Festival, but this year Mt. Airy didn’t have their festival so I made sure to hold the date for Feastival (although my sister was in town from Charlotte for her birthday dinner with friends; I caught up with her afterwards – BTW HAPPY HAPPY Birthday Crista, whose birthday is on Saturday.) I remember the very first Feastival, 7 years ago, held in one of the “theaters” near Northern Liberties. I loved it then, and I really love Feastival now; It’s energetic, lots of visuals, with great energy, and a delicious delight of an event.

hd1_9297-1600x1200

The 2016 Audi FEASTIVAL will bring together a dynamic roster of restaurants, bars, and eclectic local  performances for its 7th year, held on Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 7:00-10:00 PM at FringeArts (140 N. Columbus Blvd.,  Philadelphia, PA 19106). Each ticket purchase to the 2016 Audi FEASTIVAL includes a one year FringeArts membership, which  offers priority access to tickets and discounts for all Presented shows in the 2016-17 season, as well as the 2017 Fringe Festival.  Tickets to the event were $300 (Press Release)

Four other performances will occur over the duration of the night. Circadium, the nation’s only school of contemporary circus, will  blend modern-day circus entertainment with physical theater, presenting stiltwalkers, jugglers, contortionists, and aerialists.  FringeArts’ favorite funk clowns Red 40 & The Last Groovement return for their second FEASTIVAL, bringing disco and funk to the  21st century and will be further sassed up with an LED video stage provided by Tait Towers. Inside FringeArts, the Audi Artist Lounge  will feature Philadelphia muralist Juan Dimida who will live paint a 2017 Audi A4 over the course of the evening, integrating  traditional painting styles with cutting-edge digital art in the spirit of innovation and technology. Brian Sanders’ JUNK, (photo above) a Fringe  Festival favorite, known for their ingenious use of found objects and clever inventions, will also perform in the Audi Artist Lounge.

Fashionable, High End Consignment Shop – Revivals Boutique Popping Up all Over Philly

The Mainline’s best kept secret, or at least I thought so as I had never heard of Revivals Boutique when my friend Jillian Dunn contacted me to photograph their Pop-up Boutique at the Capital Grille.

Revivals

I did a quick Google search to see it was a consignment shop for top of the line authentic premium designers such as : Chanel, Gucci, Prada Fendi, Miu Miu , YSL, and thought how come I never heard of them. What a great shop, great labels and for a discount. Also how clever they were having it at one of the premier steak houses in the City, Capital Grille, in the David Beckham Room, it’s really not called that but a few years back the legendary futbol player had a dinner in this room.

Robin Eklund, owner of Revivals Boutique, Jillian Dunn, Store Manager Revivals Boutique and Lyn McDonnell

In business for more than 20 years Robin’s store is located at 258 Haverford Ave Narberth, PA 19072 . It’s a cute store where women can shop for high-end consignment items, consign or sell their luxury handbags and clothes and shoes for cash, and get some terrific advice on what to wear.
