Jet’s QB Stops for a Pix, Flyers New Threads, Babies, Birthdays & Movie Reviews

Good Thursday morning, and the first day of SEPTEMBER. Say what? AND IT”S RAINING. Well let’s enjoy a little gossip and tidbits from around Philadelphia.

Flyers

Last night before tonight’s big game, Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB for the Jets stopped by Del Frisco’s for dinner. On his way in he stopped to take a photo with Andy Farrell’s (Managing Partner- City Tap House) son.

Flyers

Yesterday the Flyers revealed their 2016/17 uniforms to the City, adding gold to the orange and black shirts, as the Flyers team celebrates their 50th Anniversary. GET IT: Gold is the suggested gift to give to people celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary Gift. Flyers captain Claude Giroux models a new Flyers jersey commemorating the team’s 50th anniversary at One Liberty Observation Deck. The letter C, his number and a commentator patch on his shoulder are all gold.  With him is Evan Evans, the GM of One Liberty Observation Deck, which is located at 1650 Market Street, Liberty One Building.

Flyers

Also new in Philadelphia, the Mormon Temple. Yesterday life style blogger Taza, drove down from NYC to visit the marble wonder. There’s only a few more days left where you can tour the Temple yourself, cause once they have their blessing ceremony it’ll only be open for members of the Church of Latter Day Saints. It’s pretty marvelous. Did you know they don’t really worship in the Temple, it’s more like a community center for teachings, blessings of weddings and baptisms. Across the street from the Temple is their chapel. Next week I have a fun blog post about the Mormon Temple campus.

Speaking of Temples, I noticed that the Art Museum has started the construction on the new addition, which will be built underground.

This is the one where they are planning to cut out the “Rocky Steps” so the cavernous new rooms will have a view of the City.

It was called DIVAS Simply Singing after all, and Avery Sunshine let it be known she was not happy that someone in the band was late. Rahel Solomon and Kacie McDonnell Spotted, Air Supply, Babies,

Happy Monday Morning. I had a busy last weekend in August. I was a guest at Golden Nugget on Friday night to photograph Kathie Lee Gifford, who had an appearance that their International Wine Festival. Then headed back to Philly to see Air Supply at Sugarhouse Casino. Both casinos were lucky for me as I played my favorite Willie Wonka slot machine.  Back home this is what was happening…

8-29-2016 10-53-37 AM (Custom)

Philly’s born and bred Rahel Solomon, CBS3 Philly, was filling in on the anchor desk for a vacationing Natasha Brown.  On Saturday she was at Salon Vanity for a blow out.

kacie mcdonnell

Former Fox 29’s Kacie McDonnell was also spotted at Salon Vanity getting her hair done over the weekend. Philly.com just wrote last week: Kacie McDonnell joins New England sports channel

Rahel

Another Philly born and bred gal was sitting in the anchor seat over the weekend, Kristen Welker, NBC news, who was filling in for the vacationing Lestor Holt.

8-29-2016 10-43-08 AM (Custom)

These fill -ins are great job try outs too.

Rahel

Speaking of Philly newswomen, former NBC10 weather women Brittney Shipp has written a children’s book called

“The Meteorologist in Me”. Pre Order your copy HERE

Rahel

No one was All of Out Love on Saturday night, as Air Supply stopped by Sugarhouse, as they tour America this summer. Sugarhouse has recently completed and opened a free parking garage, as well as an event space. I’ve covered several events there already and was wondering how it would transform into a concert venue. Very nicely, very intimately, great sound. Seated the space holds 450 people.  Towards the end of the concert guests were dancing in the aisle. I’ve always loved Air Supply, and didn’t realize at the time of the popularity that they were/are really a rock band as much as an easy listening group.

Rahel

Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock of Air Supply still have amazing voices despite passing their 41st year as a band.

8-29-2016 11-41-36 AM

They sing some of the most memorable songs, mostly about love and devotion. It was great.

  • Sweet Dreams
  • Even the Nights Are Better
  • Just As I Am
  • Every Woman in the World
  • Here I Am (Just When I Thought I Was Over You)
  • I Adore You
  • The One That You Love (performed in audience)
  • Lost in Love
  • Making Love Out of Nothing at All8-29-2016 12-04-15 PMAaron Mclain shreds ferociously on guitar, as Russell Hitchcock sings

Rahel

No doubt a lot of babies were conceived during Air Supply songs, here’s a few of the babies born in our area this past week. Chef Evan Turney celebrated the birth of his son last week, and his new eatery Butcher Bar opens later this week.  Wife and mother Carla Montalvo is ecstatic as well.

It was the first time I ever stayed at the Tropicana. The rooms were really nice. We stayed in the newly renovated Havana Tower. You know how I like having a lounge chair in the room, well the Tropicana does. The shower is heaven as well, and the most of the rooms have great views of Atlantic City and the ocean. Check out is at 11AM and Check in is at 4PM. The casino is huge, I recommend you grab a map, you’ll need it. I barely found all the eateries. I did have amazing luck at the slot machines, especially my favorite Willie Wonka.  Parking is great, and easy. Park in the garage closest to the eateries. I found it easier to get to. I forgot to sign up for the gaming card, which was a bad deal for me cause I gambled without one, and then I had to pay for parking, which was $10. There’s a discount if you have the card. I’d go back. Mike even liked it. They have good deals for Sunday to Thursday stays too.

Sunday afternoon, Schmidt’s Commons hosted the Ultimate Summer BBQ. Recently the former Piazza underwent a name change to The Piazza at Schmidt’s Commons (1001 N 2nd St), so this was one of the first events to happen under the new moniker, and it drew a nice crowd from the neighborhood as well as the City, despite the ominous clouds.

There were food trucks on hand, as well as entertainment including DJs from Creep Records Store and live tunes from West Philadelphia Orchestra.

The eateries and retail stores were open, and their were community and promotional tables for attendees to peruse.

I heard about it the day before and decided to check it out. Valerie & Jeanette greeted me at the door with this cute Red Bull/Pineapple alcohol drink with keepsake vessel. secret

I checked out a few of the apartments on my way up to the event on the roof, this is the 2nd in a series of pop up parties where the apartment leasing has parties to showcase the new building to prospective tenants. Drinks were flowing, and delicious food is served by the guys from Bru Catering. Nice view, the building in the foreground is the new MOM’s Organic Market Coming to East Market as well as the newly relocated Market Design Offices.

It’s where the new Whole Foods is going, opening in November. The apartments are available in September. 626 sq feel for $1,889.
