BREAKING NEWS: Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill, Mary Carey at Sampan, Robert DeNiro, Bobby Flay, Nicole Miller Plus a Few Goodbyes, Fido Friday

Welcome to another edition of PhillyGossip, your weekly catch up on what’s happening with people in our area. Nicki Minaj has been found.

The last we saw of her she was performing a concert in LA earlier this month with Fetty Wap and friends. Then we all heard the break up stories, and I know you’re reading me as every where I went people would ask me are they really broken up. I haven’t seen you report on Nicki and Meek lately, so what’s happening with them. I’ll tell you what I told youse then, but now we have proof.

You’ll recall I wrote that they did have a beef, something about Nicki
giving up everything and playing house with Meek as he does his 90 day
stint as ordered by the court.  I wrote that she wasn’t playing hard to
get, she was just rehearsing her tour in LA. She’s going to Africa in a
few weeks to do some shows. She even tweeted to her followers, don’t
believe what you read or hear.

Don’t fret they’re together again. She flew into Philly on Wednesday, and did put on a little show for her snap chat followers. No word on where Meek is calling home, but rumor has it it’s on the waterfront in one of my favorite condos.

Sad to hear my friends Mary Carey and Mario Monge are getting a divorce
after 6 years. This shot was taken in 2011, shortly after they got
married. He’s an electrician and worked on her house. They fell in love
and the rest is history. I had gotten together with them 2 additional
times when her show came through town. One time we went to Sampan and she
treated me to dinner. She pulled out a wad of dollar bills and paid the
$150 check with them. SO funny.

Burger King: Bobby Flay had dinner at Vetri’s Pizza with Marc Vetri on Wednesday night.

And then they posed with admirers, grandpop even cracked a little smile

Last week Robert Deniro was in town to cut the ribbon on the new Glen Mills Fine Wine & Good Spirits Collection Store. My question is does that whole title fit on one sign?

 The fans turned out

(Thanks to the LCB for sending me this shot)

Speaking of wine, everyone is still talking about Craig Laban‘s review of Tredici Enoteca, but he liked the wine. I’ve been there twice, I like the food. I don’t drink. Looks like Chef Perrier enjoyed everything in front of him, and probably had a good cigar afterwards.

I bet I know who has a good cigar – Congrats Christopher Wolfington for being the 20th Anniversary winner of the Holt’s Cigar  humidor.. We shot him last weekend at the Dancing With Our Future Stars event.

Where I also saw AJ Feeley, perform here with wife Heather Mitts, who is 9 months pregnant with their 2nd child. She looks fantastic. They’re with Kellie Gaglioti co owner of Joseph Anthony

Independence Mission Schools 2nd Annual Dancing Videos, Bill Green, AJ Feeley, Marcus Allen, Kristen Johanson

PS I’d really appreciate if you wouldn’t remove the videos, but just link to the site for the first day. It’s how I make a living, clicks etc, you know. Otherwise I’d have to go back to being a paralegal to pay the bills. If you’re a news organization, you can take the video but just link back to my site. Thanks

IHM “Sister Act.” #Dance4IMS

The other night I attended the Independence Mission Schools 2nd Annual Dancing for our Future Stars celebrity competition. This event is similar to the TV show, except contestants compete in raising as much money for the IMS as possible to ensure a well balanced, solid education for kids as well as programs that will help them become all they dream to be.

This year’s dancing stars were:  Peter Panageas & K.O. Delmarcelle. Carol Tamburio and Peter Liciaga. IHM “Sister Act.”  Marcus Allen and Amber Rawls. Kristen Johanson and Tony Azzaro. Ilia Garcia and Curt Foy (sorry didn’t get this on film, was shooting Brent Celek & his wife). Tommy Geramichalos and Narissa Fell (I didn’t get this one either, sorry) and Bill Green and Katie Miccarelli.

Lots of people came out to support
The kids, who were on hand to greet the guests

 Here are the judges
 And the dancers
This was the first one I filmed and realized there was a long introduction to the video. So start it at 50 seconds. I also realized I was standing in the wrong spot.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Student of the Year Grand Finale – Guess who won?

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® (LLS) celebrated their Student of the Year fundraising competition at the Grand Finale Celebration on Saturday, February 27, 2016  at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel. The night was a celebration of all the candidates’ collective fundraising efforts.

The event marked the end of a seven-week fundraising competition by local high school students.

An amazing crowd of supporters came out to support the students and the organization

 Candy Rathsmill and Betsy Mulgrew
Brittany Wells, Lilia Ferracci, Lucy Duke, Olivia Libonati, Amelia Korfmaunn, Savannah Waib, Hannah Gold and Sammi Topper
Ellen Rubeson, Jayne Rodgers, Greg Seitter, Director of Marketing & Communications at The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Melissa Read

Participating students raised money through various fundraisers, including on the finale night via silent auction items

Asia Crawford, Samantha Kaplan and Jennifer Sanville monitoring the donation boxes. I lifted a couple of them and they were impressively heavy.
Sal Paone Jr. and Erin O’Hearn, 6ABC. Erin was the emcee of the evening.
 Margie Kasner and Scott Kasner

Another great fundraiser effort on the night of the event is selling chocolate bars, wrapped in non descriptive green paper. Then at a specific time the wrapping is pulled off and the golden ticket is a $5,000 winner. The person who wins the golden ticket gets to pick a student and that student gets the “proceeds” $5,000, to add to their fundraising goals.
JP Clark, Andrew Clark (Malvern Prep raised an impressive $68,000 to win this year’s top honor.)
, Ryan Clark, and Ryan Franks

“Congratulations to all of our Student of the Year candidates.
Collectively these 10 candidates raised over $171,000 for our mission.
You’re all winner.”

Next up for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society | Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter Man & Woman of the Year fundraising campaign kicks off on March 29th and concludes on June 10th. We are still seeking candidates for this campaign. For more information, visit

WHYY Celebrates The Ending of Downton Abbey with A Party for Longtime Fans Who Dressed for the Occassion

Tonight was the ending of the much beloved, long running series Downton Abbey. Not since the Beatles invasion in 1964, has America fallen in love with a group of Brits as they have with Crawley’s.

Earlier today I attended a party at WHYY’s “Going Out of Style – Downton Abbey” party,

where members of WHYY and guests enjoyed an afternoon of scone sampling, tea tasting with Molly’s Irish Cream. While parading about in their best Downton Abbey’s inspired garb.

Elisa Cortes, Monica Bates and Kimberly McLinden with their sketches

Dakota Bryson, Tori Dallas and Victoria Jenkins

They also met fashion design students who brought their sketches of fashion inspired by the TV show, which were re-imagined for the 21st Century.

The guests then adjourned to the auditorim to listen to th sounds of The Blackbird Society Orchestra and listen to a lecture on fashion from the period from Jennifer Nesbitt, before we all settled in to watch the series finale.

William Marrazzo, Chief Executive Officer and President at WHYY and Randi Marrazzo, ‎Lecturer in Voice at Temple University, Private Voice Teacher, Founding Artistic Director Emerita of Lyric Fest – ‎Temple University
Mary Ellen Volb and Jennette Lynch both cited the episode where Matthew proposed to Mary as their favorite one.
Robert Wickman and Sally Wickman, watched every episode together. There was no Downton adultery in their lives. that’s when one person watches an episode before the other gets a chance to see it. PS That happens a lot in my house.
Nancy Morales and Ann Rogers. Nancy custom made her outfit, and dyed her dress to match the color of the Crawley living room.
Margaret Leonard and William Reynolds

Dusan Osessey

Bob Kravitz, formerly longtime photog for 6ABC and Susan Kravitz
Rose Anne Mangarello
These women told me she brought her own tea cup to the party as it matched her outfit
Margie Gorman, Mary Jane Gavenda and Randy Present
Patricia and Patrick Dillon, met in the UK when they were younger. There were celebrating Patricia’s birthday on Sunday, Patrick’s birthday last week and their upcoming wedding anniversary on March 23. Oh and did I mention they are looking forward to St. Patrick’s Day coming up next week. They adore Downton Abbey.
Margaret Leonard and Tara Swartz

Over 300 Downton Abbey guests packed the WHYY auditorium.
Many looking spectacular in their period dress
It was a hard choice
but we narrowed it down to the top three best dressed
Winners of the Best Dressed Guests at the Downton Abbey Party, as picked by judges Kate Marls, Elizabeth Wellington and HughE Dillon (That’s me!)

A Flower Show Peek – Fun, Flowers and Photos

Friday night I had a chance to check out the Philadelphia Flower Show and picked out a few highlights here. On Monday I will have photos from the gala on Friday night, and tomorrow and Tuesday I will post more photos of what’s happening there. Make sure to follow me on Twitter, Instagram or FB at @Iphillychitchat – Twitter and Philly Chit Chat for the others.

I really don’t want to show you all the displays, especially if you’re going to go see it, but will just show a few highlights today.  I don’t know why media outlets show everything of the show, when the desire is to get people to go to the show. I do hope you will go, there is so much to see, and to learn about our national parks and about PHS, and the programs they offer to Philly. We’re so lucky to have an organization like the PHS in Philly.

The theme this year is “National Parks,” and it was full of many different and beautifully executed  displays! There were beautiful forests, landscapes, artistically created animals, and lots of education on the National Parks that dot our land. And there were some flowers, especially wildflowers which bloom in the national parks, in the fields, and near the entrance of our favorite places to visit.

Take lots of #Selfies also participate in the FTD Instagram Contest
Celebrate w/ by sharing a pic of a lady YOU look up to on w/ :

Remember the theme is National Parks, try and guess which ones are depicted before you read the signs

There are free demonstrations to attend: http://theflowershow.com/experiences/presentations

There’s a lot to do at the flower show too : Details on special family attractions, including the new Railway Garden, powered by Amtrak with Bachmann Trains There’s also a Make and take room, where kids can create wearable art, DIY Terrarium for an additional price.

My favorite displays are the miniatures.

This is “Valley Forge” winter and fall. The judge’s gave them 3rd place, saying the fall side of Valley Forge of suspect. Those judges are serious.
This was the winner, the judges called it museum quality
I am always amazed at how these scenes are created by flower petals, and parts.
At Friday’s gala. I enjoyed the decor, simple, functional and attracting.
The gateway to the show is magnificent as it always is. So my photos will be taken here. Please hashtag your shots #PhillyFlowerShow and next week I will run my favorites.
When I was leaving I saw the great event planner, Fred Stein, over looking the gala making sure everything was running smoothly.
Buy your tickets online, in line or here
Here’s a link to the map of the Flower Show

Hope to see you Friday at Fido Friday

Only in My Dreams – Debbie Gibson, Jade Starling, and Rob Base Performed at Harrah’s Casino

Time slipped away and I didn’t have a chance to post these shots from the iHeart The 80’s Concert w/ Debbie Gibson, Jade Starling, and Rob Base Performed at Harrah’s Casino

A sold our crowd showed up to experience the 80s again and even dressed for the part
I’m a huge fan of the 80’s, and all the performers
But “Only in My Dreams” is one of my fav all time songs.

I can remember where I was the first time I heard it – Saratoga in Atlantic City a few year’s back, ok 30 years ago.
I just remember after hearing it I woke up on the beach, as the crowd for the Beach Boys started to packed the area and the high tide woke me up and soaked me and my parachute pants.

LOVE IT LIKE I DO

MC for the evening Brittney Lynn and
 The Drag Mafia
Jade Starling – One of the nicest ladies of pop you could meet
Singing my other favorite song from the 80s “Catch Me I’m Falling”.
Jade is still going strong releases new songs today.
Chio in the Morning on Mix 100
 Rob Base
Among the ghosts of the 80s, MJ made an appearance

OMG Debbie Gibson (PS So glad she returned to this name)

March 4, 1989
Debbie Gibson soared to
her second Billboard Hot 100 No. 1, as ballad “Lost in Your Eyes” lifted
2-1. “Obviously, dance songs can stand the test of time, but nothing
penetrates and spans all age groups, all ethnicities or all genders like
a ballad,” Gibson told Billboard in 2014 upon the 25th anniversary of the release of parent album Electric Youth.
“One of my favorite things, to this day, is that many people come up to
me and tell me that they learned how to play the piano from that song
and from that sheet music, which is such an honor to me.” – Billboard Magazine

Judge William Lewis Exhibit Opens at Strawberry Mansion

Historic Strawberry Mansion celebrated Black History Month with the launch of the first interactive exhibit combining history and
technology to tell the story of the life and work of Judge William Lewis. A permanent addition to the Mansion, “A Freedom To Go Forth” can now be viewed by guests with general admission.

“A Freedom to Go Forth”
explores the work of Judge William Lewis on behalf of African Americans
in 18th Century Philadelphia. Judge William Lewis was one of two white abolitionists who have lived at Strawberry Mansion. Lewis, a lawyer, represented slaves fighting for their freedom and wrote the Law of 1780 abolishing slavery in Philadelphia.

“Judge Lewis was an early friend and advocate for enslaved African Americans,” says Connie Ragsdale (r), president of Historic Strawberry Mansion. “His contributions to the fight for freedom
and to Historic Strawberry Mansion were vital to the growth of Philadelphia.”Here with the curator of the new exhibit- Jason Allen, executive director of Mother Bethel AME Church’s Richard Allen Foundation

Woodford Mansion stands at 2300 N. 33rd St., near the historic Strawberry Mansion.
Built in 1756 by merchant William Coleman, the home, registered as a
National Historic Landmark, was visited by many historical figures,
including Benjamin Franklin and George Clymer, a signer of the
Declaration of Independence.

Monique Lau, Robert Nonemacker and Crystal Hayes Cazza,
During the original furnishing of the Mansion, in 1931, the Committee of
1926
treated each individual room of the house as a separately
interpreted space. Different women’s groups involved in the High Street
Exhibit, as well as some individuals, were assigned to curating the
different rooms and gathering the beautiful pieces. As such, each room
in the house has a unique interpretation and the diversity and contrast
among the rooms has been enjoyed and celebrated by the public since the
Mansion first opened for tours.
