WHYY Celebrates The Ending of Downton Abbey with A Party for Longtime Fans Who Dressed for the Occassion

Tonight was the ending of the much beloved, long running series Downton Abbey. Not since the Beatles invasion in 1964, has America fallen in love with a group of Brits as they have with Crawley’s.

Earlier today I attended a party at WHYY’s “Going Out of Style – Downton Abbey” party,

where members of WHYY and guests enjoyed an afternoon of scone sampling, tea tasting with Molly’s Irish Cream. While parading about in their best Downton Abbey’s inspired garb.

Elisa Cortes, Monica Bates and Kimberly McLinden with their sketches

Dakota Bryson, Tori Dallas and Victoria Jenkins

They also met fashion design students who brought their sketches of fashion inspired by the TV show, which were re-imagined for the 21st Century.

The guests then adjourned to the auditorim to listen to th sounds of The Blackbird Society Orchestra and listen to a lecture on fashion from the period from Jennifer Nesbitt, before we all settled in to watch the series finale.

William Marrazzo, Chief Executive Officer and President at WHYY and Randi Marrazzo, ‎Lecturer in Voice at Temple University, Private Voice Teacher, Founding Artistic Director Emerita of Lyric Fest – ‎Temple University
Mary Ellen Volb and Jennette Lynch both cited the episode where Matthew proposed to Mary as their favorite one.
Robert Wickman and Sally Wickman, watched every episode together. There was no Downton adultery in their lives. that’s when one person watches an episode before the other gets a chance to see it. PS That happens a lot in my house.
Nancy Morales and Ann Rogers. Nancy custom made her outfit, and dyed her dress to match the color of the Crawley living room.
Margaret Leonard and William Reynolds

Dusan Osessey

Bob Kravitz, formerly longtime photog for 6ABC and Susan Kravitz
Rose Anne Mangarello
These women told me she brought her own tea cup to the party as it matched her outfit
Margie Gorman, Mary Jane Gavenda and Randy Present
Patricia and Patrick Dillon, met in the UK when they were younger. There were celebrating Patricia’s birthday on Sunday, Patrick’s birthday last week and their upcoming wedding anniversary on March 23. Oh and did I mention they are looking forward to St. Patrick’s Day coming up next week. They adore Downton Abbey.
Margaret Leonard and Tara Swartz

Over 300 Downton Abbey guests packed the WHYY auditorium.
Many looking spectacular in their period dress
It was a hard choice
but we narrowed it down to the top three best dressed
Winners of the Best Dressed Guests at the Downton Abbey Party, as picked by judges Kate Marls, Elizabeth Wellington and HughE Dillon (That’s me!)

A Flower Show Peek – Fun, Flowers and Photos

Friday night I had a chance to check out the Philadelphia Flower Show and picked out a few highlights here. On Monday I will have photos from the gala on Friday night, and tomorrow and Tuesday I will post more photos of what’s happening there. Make sure to follow me on Twitter, Instagram or FB at @Iphillychitchat – Twitter and Philly Chit Chat for the others.

I really don’t want to show you all the displays, especially if you’re going to go see it, but will just show a few highlights today.  I don’t know why media outlets show everything of the show, when the desire is to get people to go to the show. I do hope you will go, there is so much to see, and to learn about our national parks and about PHS, and the programs they offer to Philly. We’re so lucky to have an organization like the PHS in Philly.

The theme this year is “National Parks,” and it was full of many different and beautifully executed  displays! There were beautiful forests, landscapes, artistically created animals, and lots of education on the National Parks that dot our land. And there were some flowers, especially wildflowers which bloom in the national parks, in the fields, and near the entrance of our favorite places to visit.

Take lots of #Selfies also participate in the FTD Instagram Contest
Celebrate w/ by sharing a pic of a lady YOU look up to on w/ :

Remember the theme is National Parks, try and guess which ones are depicted before you read the signs

There are free demonstrations to attend: http://theflowershow.com/experiences/presentations

There’s a lot to do at the flower show too : Details on special family attractions, including the new Railway Garden, powered by Amtrak with Bachmann Trains There’s also a Make and take room, where kids can create wearable art, DIY Terrarium for an additional price.

My favorite displays are the miniatures.

This is “Valley Forge” winter and fall. The judge’s gave them 3rd place, saying the fall side of Valley Forge of suspect. Those judges are serious.
This was the winner, the judges called it museum quality
I am always amazed at how these scenes are created by flower petals, and parts.
At Friday’s gala. I enjoyed the decor, simple, functional and attracting.
The gateway to the show is magnificent as it always is. So my photos will be taken here. Please hashtag your shots #PhillyFlowerShow and next week I will run my favorites.
When I was leaving I saw the great event planner, Fred Stein, over looking the gala making sure everything was running smoothly.
Buy your tickets online, in line or here
Here’s a link to the map of the Flower Show

Hope to see you Friday at Fido Friday

Only in My Dreams – Debbie Gibson, Jade Starling, and Rob Base Performed at Harrah’s Casino

Time slipped away and I didn’t have a chance to post these shots from the iHeart The 80’s Concert w/ Debbie Gibson, Jade Starling, and Rob Base Performed at Harrah’s Casino

A sold our crowd showed up to experience the 80s again and even dressed for the part
I’m a huge fan of the 80’s, and all the performers
But “Only in My Dreams” is one of my fav all time songs.

I can remember where I was the first time I heard it – Saratoga in Atlantic City a few year’s back, ok 30 years ago.
I just remember after hearing it I woke up on the beach, as the crowd for the Beach Boys started to packed the area and the high tide woke me up and soaked me and my parachute pants.

LOVE IT LIKE I DO

MC for the evening Brittney Lynn and
 The Drag Mafia
Jade Starling – One of the nicest ladies of pop you could meet
Singing my other favorite song from the 80s “Catch Me I’m Falling”.
Jade is still going strong releases new songs today.
Chio in the Morning on Mix 100
 Rob Base
Among the ghosts of the 80s, MJ made an appearance

OMG Debbie Gibson (PS So glad she returned to this name)

March 4, 1989
Debbie Gibson soared to
her second Billboard Hot 100 No. 1, as ballad “Lost in Your Eyes” lifted
2-1. “Obviously, dance songs can stand the test of time, but nothing
penetrates and spans all age groups, all ethnicities or all genders like
a ballad,” Gibson told Billboard in 2014 upon the 25th anniversary of the release of parent album Electric Youth.
“One of my favorite things, to this day, is that many people come up to
me and tell me that they learned how to play the piano from that song
and from that sheet music, which is such an honor to me.” – Billboard Magazine

Judge William Lewis Exhibit Opens at Strawberry Mansion

Historic Strawberry Mansion celebrated Black History Month with the launch of the first interactive exhibit combining history and
technology to tell the story of the life and work of Judge William Lewis. A permanent addition to the Mansion, “A Freedom To Go Forth” can now be viewed by guests with general admission.

“A Freedom to Go Forth”
explores the work of Judge William Lewis on behalf of African Americans
in 18th Century Philadelphia. Judge William Lewis was one of two white abolitionists who have lived at Strawberry Mansion. Lewis, a lawyer, represented slaves fighting for their freedom and wrote the Law of 1780 abolishing slavery in Philadelphia.

“Judge Lewis was an early friend and advocate for enslaved African Americans,” says Connie Ragsdale (r), president of Historic Strawberry Mansion. “His contributions to the fight for freedom
and to Historic Strawberry Mansion were vital to the growth of Philadelphia.”Here with the curator of the new exhibit- Jason Allen, executive director of Mother Bethel AME Church’s Richard Allen Foundation

Woodford Mansion stands at 2300 N. 33rd St., near the historic Strawberry Mansion.

Declaration of Independence.

Monique Lau, Robert Nonemacker and Crystal Hayes Cazza,
During the original furnishing of the Mansion, in 1931, the Committee of

Exhibit, as well as some individuals, were assigned to curating the
different rooms and gathering the beautiful pieces. As such, each room
in the house has a unique interpretation and the diversity and contrast
among the rooms has been enjoyed and celebrated by the public since the
Mansion first opened for tours.

Tours of the Mansion are conducted on the hour from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., with the Mansion closing at 4:00 pm, every Tuesday through Sunday, excluding holidays.  Admission for a guided tour is $8.00 for adults, $5 for senior citizens, and $5 for children (ages 6 – 12).

Who’s Mug Is On The Palm’s Wall, and How Did It Get There? Monday’s Closing Party of the Iconic Restaurant.

The doors at The Palm Restaurant closed Monday night for at least 9 months.

Jeff Phillips,  ‎C.O.O. at Palm Restaurant was on hand to greet longtime Palm Restaurant customers, who were in for their last meal, and some of them to say good bye to their mugs on the wall. As much as the Palm tried to assure people that the faces would be saved, it’s nearly impossible as most are secured to the wall via adhesive and would tear the face if it were pulled off. The new restaurant will have new, updated faces. Many of the faces in the famed Bellevue located eatery are OLD.

It was always a walk down memory lane when eating at The Palm.  There was a whole section of Phillies, current when they were put up, vintage these days.

Who knew Pat Croce was so good looking.

The Papadaki’s, Solomon’s and Councilwomen Blondell Reynolds Brown
Gus, with longtime Palm patrons Evan Solomon, ‎CEO at EFS Networks Inc (he wires new restaurants and business with state of the art software solutions – he just did SUGA)
and Lynsie Solomon.
Sixers Legends
The refreshed Palm Restaurant will open before the holidays, and  will continue to embrace the restaurant’s
90-year commitment to service and quality with the same great food and
personalized service.  The new design will feature a striking
hand-painted feature wall of Philadelphia’s famous landmarks overlooking
the dining room. A new, expansive bar will anchor the dining room, and
the Private Dining Room will be relocated to the main level of the
restaurant. In addition to the numerous cosmetic changes, there are many
enhancements to the infrastructure, which is a lengthy process. And new Palm portraits of notables will grace the walls.
There’s even a dog on the wall. To get your mug on the wall,
Big Rube, Nicole Miller, Nicole Cashman (I took this last week)
Then Monday night I noticed a guy did remove his photo from the wall. There was no name yet attached so maybe it was a new face.
Geoff Gross, Medical Guardian and the founder of Preakness at the Piazza. It’ll be on May 21. I’ll be there shooting it so come on by.
Janice Cohen , Judge Gene D. Cohen (Ret.), Jeff Phillips,  ‎C.O.O. at Palm Restaurant and Jerry Blavat in the bar at The Palm.
Dawn Timmeny and the crew from her days at NBC10. Now Dawn is at Fox29
Charles H. Ramsey, is the former Commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department.

The Goldberg family, they own the deliciousTeuscher Chocolates st the Bellevue Hotel

Monday night there were a lot of notables, some who’s faces appear on the wall like Fred Stein (L) Fred Stein – The Creative Group
Next time we’ll be working together is on the ADL Walk
MAY 15, 2016 – The Navy Yard
I’m a corporate sponsor and I’ll have a team walking. As soon as I have the info I will send it along.
Nino Tinari, PhillyStyleMagazine, The Rendells, John Travolta
Rocky, The Lipsons – Sharon & David (I have to say David’s is a ringer). Ricardo Muti, Arnie Schwarzenegger

The Kelly family, JD Kelly and friends as in Grace Kelly and Kelly Drive fame.
David Maser
Gary DeVito, Zarwin Baum, and on other walls I spotted Zarwin attorney’s Ted Schaer and Harris Baum
Jim Gardner, Wally Kennedy and Liz Starr from their Dialing for Dollars TV show days. Larry Kane and Shirley Maclaine?
Patti LaBelle
Mary Dougherty, Nicole Miller Philadelphia stores, with Renee and Don Freeman, all of who are on the wall.

Here’s Mary with her BFF’s Linda Swain and Karen Buchholz.
Palm waiter Gus (who is headed to Sugarhouse, see story at the end) with longtime customers Evan and Lynsie Solomon.
There were two ways to get your mug on the wall, longtime customers that accumulated 50,000 eating points. Or be recommended by someone that you were notable and should grace the wall.

These two look most like their portraits

Chris Mullins, co-owner of McGillin’s and Bill Gehrman, Enroute Marketing.
I was just with Bill at the Historic Strawberry Mansion for the debut of their Judge William Lewis interactive exhibit. Photos will be posted on PCC tomorrow.
Stu Bykofsky is an American journalist and columnist for the Philadelphia Daily News.

The Brownstein Family and Frank Sinatra
So funny Kris Jenner is so unfamous they only put Mr & Mrs Bruce Jenner
Then we have the infamous – Larry Mendte, Alycia Lane, Michael Colleran had been President and General Manager of the CBS Philadelphia duopoly stations — CBS 3 (KYW-TV) and The CW Beasley Reese and Kathy Orr (who is now with Fox 29)
Bradley Cooper and his dad
Jeff Phillips,  ‎C.O.O. at Palm Restaurant with the Freemans, who’s portrait is at the tip of the sailfishes nose. Jeff is in the pink shirt holding the sail fish. He tells me the rest of the guys on the fish are the team who opened the Philly eatery 29 years ago.
Wendy Hamilton, GM SugarHouse Casino and Jim Haney, GM Palm
SugarHouse Casino and The Palm Restaurant jointly announced that SugarHouse will make job offers to all of The Palm’s Philadelphia staff.  “We have enormous respect for The Palm brand, Jim Haney and his team.
They have a well-earned reputation for delivering superior, personalized
service,” said Wendy Hamilton, general manager of SugarHouse Casino.
“They’re also our friends. They’re facing a challenging situation, and
we’re actively recruiting. It seemed like an opportunity for a win-win.”  – Hugo’s Frog Bar & Chop House by Chicago’s famed Gibsons Restaurant Group is slated to open in April. – I can’t wait!!
LEANN RIMES TO HEADLINE FIRST CONCERT IN NEW SUGARHOUSE CASINO EVENT CENTER
And my mug. So long buddy. It was an honor when I was recommended to be on the wall. As a fan of The Palm, and it’s storied history, I knew and felt it was a big deal. Thanks!!

PhillyGossip: Nicki Minaj, Jen Sherlock, The Herremans Joan Shepp, Scotch and Wine Dinners on the Calendar and Gunnar Montana

Good Wednesday Morning. Whew this week is flying by quickly. SO much to do. Let’s get started.
Rumors abound on the internet about Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill breaking up.
TMZ reports: Our sources say Nicki and Meek Mill have broken up… friction surfaced after Meek tried pressuring Nicki to stay close when he goes into lockdown for 90 days for violating his probation on drug and gun charges. We’re told Meek wanted Nicki to live with him in Philly during his house arrest.  We’re told Nicki blanched at the notion, saying she would not put her life on hold because of his criminal issues, and that triggered a big fight that is still unresolved.  Nicki’s been in L.A. this week … and it’s unclear when she’s going back to Philly.   Our sources say Nicki and Meek fight a lot, but this one’s bigger than the others.

On the 2nd to the last night of Meek Mill’s freedom before undergoing 90 days of house arrest for a parole violation, Meek Mill headed to Vanity Grand with Fabulous to party.

He celebrated with all in attendance and

Philadelphia Film Society Throws A Spectacular, Fashionable Oscars Viewing Party

Sunday night the Philadelphia Film Society  young friends hosted their 3rd Annual Oscar Bash, and by far the biggest, most successful one moving it from the quaint Roxy Theater to the nearly 500 seat Prince Theater.  In recent years Philly’s been lacking a quality, affordable viewing party since The Ritz – Carlton stopped doing them a few years back, and as much as they were great, this was much better. The AV worked perfect, there was plenty of food, a great mix of people and the screen was movie theater quality, and the audience was enraptured by the show, so there wasn’t too much chatting except for the collective sigh of disgust when Sly lost.

Hosting the viewing party was none other than Philly’s beloved first lady
Brittany Lynn and the Philly Drag Mafia

The Philadelphia Film Society Young Friends is a community of film enthusiasts and advocates that participate in social, educational, and philanthropic events to cultivate the next generation of film appreciation, film and festival-goers, and filmmakers in Philadelphia.
You should join them, there are a lot of great benefits, free screenings, lectures and much more. It’s really a great organization to belong to as well as a great place to meet other young friends, and young at heart movie lovers.
