CORRECTION: STATEMENT FROM DEPUTY MAYOR CUTLER, COMMISSIONER RAMSEY REGARDING GIVE RESPECT-GET RESPECT CAMPAIGN
STATEMENT FROM DEPUTY MAYOR CUTLER, COMMISSIONER RAMSEY REGARDING GIVE RESPECT-GET RESPECT CAMPAIGN
Philadelphia, July 19, 2011 – Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey and Deputy Mayor for Transportation and Public Utilities Rina Cutler have released the following statements regarding the “Give Respect-Get Respect” campaign. Deputy Mayor Cutler stated:
“On average, nearly 2,000 pedestrians and more than 400 cyclists are hit by cars each year in Philadelphia. That is equivalent to one pedestrian every four hours and one cyclist every day.
“The City’s ‘Give Respect-Get Respect’ campaign is an educational initiative for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to be more aware and mindful of each other on Philadelphia’s roads. This grant funded traffic safety enforcement and educational program targets all users of our roads. Texting while walking is not illegal, but it is dangerous. We want everyone on Philadelphia’s streets to be aware of both their safety and the safety of others.
“During the campaign, the Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) is issuing warnings and citations to drivers and cyclists who have moving violations, bike on the sidewalk or use cell phone while driving. In fact, the City has warned nearly 600 bicyclists about dangerous behavior and more than 100 motorists about distracted driving. Pedestrians may be reminded to be more aware of their surroundings; however, there are no citations issued by the PPD for texting while walking. If a Philadelphia police officer observes a driver, cyclist or pedestrian participating in any kind of potentially dangerous behavior, the officer will remind them to be careful.
“It is important for all Philadelphians to be aware and respectful while using our city’s roads. Everyone should travel safely through our city.”
Police Commissioner Ramsey added, “This is a common sense public education campaign. It doesn’t matter if you’re walking, biking or driving. There are simply too many distractions that take our attention away from what is most important, staying safe and not causing harm to yourself or to others.”
On Christmas Eve in 1927, a baby was left on the doorstep of a theater company with a note attached reading: “Please take care of my baby, her name is Catherine. I can no longer take care of her, I have eight others. My husband is out of work. She was born on Thanksgiving Day. I have always heard of the goodness of show business and I pray to God that you will look after her.” -A Heart-Broken MotherAs a result, Variety Club International (now Variety – The Children’s Charity) was founded by the eleven entertainers who discovered Baby Catherine. The Tim’s, Mike and I headed out to Lancaster on a Sunday to see the beauty of the countryside and we weren’t disappointed I love shooting the Amish in the most polite way possible. I think my fascination with them is the simple way of life I sometimes wish I could live, but I would be bored to death. Who am I kidding. They’re friendly and always give a wave, mostly to each other but this kid waved to me. A few minutes after this the guy behind me tried to pass us both nearly running the buggy off the road. So seriously people don’t visit or move to Lancaster County if you don’t have patience. It was a NJ license plate and I wanted to throttle him. Instead I continued my way to Starsburg to ride the rails. I HIGHLY recommend doing this. So much fun riding a train through the farm fields. You might even get a chance to have Thomas the Train be your engineer. The Tims. They just celebrated 7 years. I love flags. Although this one shouldn’t be touching the ground. Courting fighting frightening So cool I caught the Amish kids in a swimming hole. I didn’t have my long lens, but their black pants and white shirts were all piled on the side. Until next time.
On the same night as the Rittenhouse Square Ball the Young Friends of Rittenhouse Square hold a party nearby. This year it was held across the street at Smith & Wollensky. At 10PM the party rolls across the street to join the tented event to join them for dessert and dance.
I need to clarify something I wrote on Friday. It wasn’t my Cashman assistants fault I didn’t get the names/notebook from her. After a few of my friends asked me why I wrote that I realize it sounded terrible. I could have waited til Monday to do the entry, but since I was on my white party high and it was such a high profile event, I felt it necessary to get the shots and story out. Here at PhillyChitChat I like to chat about the behind the scenes and motivations of creating a blog entry. She takes the notebook, types up the names and then provides them to me. I instead just wanted to get the entry on the books first thing Friday morning. Just because I was working all night, there was no need for her to do it. I didn’t tell anyone, I just thought I would know the majority of the names, which I did. They didn’t say anything either way, but I just wanted to apologize for that mis step. How the event came together etc. The assistant takes the notes and then the powers to be have an idea who was there so then they push certain photos out to certain media outlets, plus the team can hit the ground running the next day with the distribution of the photos to various outlets. The first thing I did when I got home at 2AM, was pull a dozen shots that I thought were perfect for the press ie gossip columns, newspapers and blogs. If I hadn’t have done this entry so quickly I might have caught a few more stories and pictures of interest. But I did. Here’s a few that I overlooked that have been weighing heavy on my mind, cause I’m just that kinda peep. I forgot to mention that one of my favorite bands, and my advertiser CTO Entertainment performed at the event. They had a band in the front where folks were getting their groove on, and they had a DJ in the Delilah’s Dance Den, where everyone was dancing nice and easy. (If you’re an advertiser I always give you a live link to your site.) Also I forgot to mention that the room was set up differently this year with the dance floor and stage set off to the side, on the right. It was a genius idea and every event needs to do it this way. No more walking across the dance floor to get to the other side of the room. I was so darn busy I didn’t seen Nicole Cashman, beau DJ 611 clothing designer Nigel Richards and Lauren O’Dorisio til the very end of the night. Don’t they look spiffy. I discovered that my advertisements don’t show up on phones, yes really I just discovered this. Every once and a while I will be slipping in an advertisement that will be “sponsoring” an entry, cause these are the folks that allow me to do what I love to do and bring the events and people to you. I won’t be obnoxious about it with a pop up at or anything, or irritating like an ad before a video. Those drive me crazy. Thanks to Table 31 for being an advertiser. Check out their new menu which includes sushi now.
Video of Bono with fans at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. I had no idea that sometimes celebrities would stop at the gate of the venue to sign for fans. So if you really want to see someone ie Taylor Swift up next etc, give it a try. It won’t happen all the time, but I have seen Bono sign for peeps often in NYC.
Thursday Opa is have a 4th Anniversary party for PhillyChitChat.com The place holds about 80 – 100 people but they are hoping everyone staggers themselves so I am putting this out to the masses. The open bar is 9 – 10PM, but there are drink specials all night long. I’d love to see you. Also just a reminder in September I will be having two charity events again for my sister Judy. One in NJ (Flemings Steakhouse) and one in Philly (Undetermined at the moment). Every year Philadelphia Style Magazine has a blow out “Hot List” party, this year they have renamed it The Best of Style, and it was a great re-branding of the party. The room was even changed around moving the dance floor to thec side, and instead lining the sponsor tables in neat little rows, instead of the haphazard design in years gone by. It was as I always say, one of the best parties of the season. Definitely the best party of the summer season with philebrities, clients and a fairly exclusive guest list of high powered guests.
ENJOY!
This year the theme was WHITE PARTY. The invited guests did not disappoint in their attire. They really stepped it up and wore their finest. P Diddy would be proud. Julie Abramson, Jewlez Entertainment and Phila Style Magazine Puff Daddy Publisher John Colabelli

No longer will the gardens of the Rodin be as daunting as French artist Auguste Rodin’s ”La Porte de l’Enfer’ or Gates of Hell at the entrance of the famed artists museum. The grounds in which the Thinker resides has just emerged from an extensive renovation. Today leaders of the city’s cultural and philanthropic communities celebrated the rejuvenation of the Rodin grounds including the courtyard and exterior gardens, which now enhance the entire block between 21st and 22nd Streets on the Parkway. The three-year collaborative project restores the site’s harmony of art and nature. At the ceremony were Constance H. Williams, Chair, Board of Trustees, Philadelphia Museum of ArtGail Harrity, President and COO, Philadelphia Museum of ArtDrew Becher, President, Pennsylvania Horticultural SocietyMichael DiBerardinis, Deputy Mayor for Environmental and Community Resources, City of PhiladelphiaDonald Kimelman, Managing Director of the Philadelphia Program, The Pew Charitable TrustsTimothy Rub, Director and CEO, Philadelphia Museum of ArtGail Harrity, President and COO, Philadelphia Museum of Art speaking to a reporter about the new landscape A Media Day is when an organization, whether it’s a restaurant, store, event, moment, new item or in this case a museum, invites all the press to check out their brand spanking new something, usually before the public which is how we like it. Then each of us usually write a piece on the “story”. I like to tell the behind the story story in addition to promoting said event, highlighting what I think might interest you. It’s kinda fun to be the first to see a product brand new spanky sparkly like the grounds of the Rodin Museum. Michael DiBerardinis, Deputy Mayor for Environmental and Community Resources, City of Philadelphia and Drew Becher, President, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. Although many agencies were involved in this project, the PHS worked alongside OLIN landscape architects coordinating with the placement and design of the gardens, and will manage the maintenance going forward.A media tour of the restored interior and exterior gardens led by OLIN landscape architect Susan Weiler (blue dress) Timothy Rub, Director and CEO, Philadelphia Museum of Art chatting with guests as a photographer captures the moment and a STARR Restaurants Catering server returns glasses to the kitchen. Olin’s designed pays homage to the simplicity and complexity of both Paul Philippe Cret and Jacques Greber, the collaborators on the original building of the Rodin museum in 1926 One of the most dramatic changes to the garden is the return of the sculptures that were always meant to be placed there like “The Burghers of Calais” repositioned here in the east garden where it was removed in 1955. Two free standing, life size bronzes, The Age of Bronze and Eve” will be placed in the niches in the front of the building, where they were originally designed to be placed. Admission is free, but there is a suggested donation of $5 to view the collection. The Rodin Museum is one of the gems along the parkway. They received several hundred visitors a day, but now with the rejuvenation and future projects, especially having the Barnes as a neighbor, I suspect that number will go up. So my suggestion is to go right now to really enjoy the museum at your leisure. John mans the Rodin Museum gift shop. It’s a snazzy place with lots of info on the museum there. The larger Thinker sculpture is only $100. There’s snow globes, paper, post-its, books, magnets and posters. When I was a paralegal I walked by the Rodin to and from my home past the museum.Which reminds me the back path shortcut to Whole Foods, and the Parkway, which used to be a beat up road and dirt, is now a paved pathway for the peeps from Fairmount and North Philly to use. It really does cut off 3 minutes of your walk and is so much prettier than the Wawa and the Precinct. Anyway, the new grounds are beautiful and I am excited to experience the museum and beauty of the grounds again. I have many photos of the Thinker in every season, as well as the gardens beyond the wrought iron gate, in fact my favorite shot was after an ice storm at sunset and it hangs on my wall in my living room. I have a personal connection with these grounds, and now I am excited to see the results after years of renovations of the Thinker and now the gardens. Walking home, or wandering around it will definitely be a must stop for reflection, reading and catching a few rays. The bad news is after 9/6/11 the museum will close until the Spring of 2012 so that it can undergo a renovation as well as reinterpret the collection. The gardens and grounds will remain open during what would normally be museum hours.

The 3 Nerds hosted an Industry Night at Arrow Swim Club last night. Ryan Dorsey and Marc Mattera are two of the 3 Nerds, but Zach Seidman is an honorary Nerd (Like Shemp of the Three Stooges or Arnold of the Brady Bunch) Arrow Swim Club closes at 9PM, but special interest groups can rent out the space for parties. I hear there have been a few doozies, I would include last nights
Splash with DJ Royale in the mix. (It was a Splash at Arrow Swim Club for Industry Night)The speedo isn’t dead and you don’t have to be Canadian to wear one. Lovely ladies poolside Judy, Alice, Laura and Jen were there, and will be there next week too and might go swimming. Swimming at night sounds great, especially if your not at the beach. As well as a few cool kids, in this case just a cool kid Jacky Wright soaks up the moonlight while relaxing in his own corner of the pool. Who needs more than 4 feet of water when you just want a water bed. Even on their nights off the Whisper crew want to spend it together. GM Clark Maloney, Brett, Jason Serpes and crew Philly2Night’s Rob Wright and Danielle Dubois were enjoying themselves. as were many of the peeps in the industry. Drinks were a fair price averaging $5, but there were passed snacks including sliders and pita with humus that I enjoyed. The doors open at 9PM, but get there before 11PM if you have the munchies. Many people I spoke to said it was there first time through the Arrow Swim Club doors. A few even told me they would be signing up next year. I told them the price had dropped to $750, but some already had shore house shares. Spotted at the pool, not in it though, Courtney Grant, Jaye Hamel, Megan Smith, Reggie Barry, Anthony Casey, and Arrow Swim Club Mgr Megan Kearney The three Shaina’s although one of them spells their name Shayna What were you doing at 12:20AM cause the crowd was still going strong at the club. Surprisingly enough when you are outside on the street you can’t hear the music. I’m not sure if that holds true for the apartments on the top floor, but you’d never know there was a party going on down below. Sunday’s I hear Tommy Up and crew has a party “Baruno and Brown present TROPHY WIVES – Arrow Swim Club’s ALL GIRLS pool party.” Starts at 2PM and 10% of the proceeds go to the GLBT community. I ran into George Tsiouris (Opa Restaurant), cousin Demetri Pappas (who just bought Xochitl with his friend Peter Leontaras) and their friend who’s name I didn’t get. But just moved back from LA and is working at Serafina’s. He’s single girls and well go say hi to him. As you know PhillyChitChat.com has just celebrated it’s 4th Anniversary. Opa wants to throw me a party to celebrate. It’s next Thursday 7/21. To make sure everyone is comfortable I’m keeping the number at 80. So send me an email at buzz @phillychitchat.com and you will be entered in a raffle. The details are still be worked out but I know there’s a hour open bar involved and food. ThanksSee you next week:
