Dollar Store General Concept to Piazza; M∙A∙C Returns To Rittenhouse, Bruce Willis Spotted

Hello Friday, August is just zipping by; BTW if you’re reading this before 830AM I’m on WOGL for another sing a long today with Marilyn Russell, and my pick for event of the weekend – it’s a killer. That’s a hint. Here’s another edition of #PCCBuzz (yes I know I changed the day again; Friday is a good day for gossip cause you need fun chitchat for the weekend, dinner and the beach) Last week I went to the  2nd Street Festival, it was fun. It wasn’t a client event so I got to really take my time to look around, and guess what I found a very interesting story.

I saw this awning at The Schmidt’s Commons – DGX Philadelphia. Inside the space was still being built out. I check it out online to see what kind of business it was and it’s a subsidiary of Dollar Store General.  According to a story in the Tennessean:  Dollar General has a new demographic in mind with its smaller-format store concept DGX: millennials. .. There are similarities between a traditional Dollar General store and DGX, but the smaller-format store features a more modern design, a curated selection of goods and a brewed coffee station for metropolitan shoppers.

It’s very similar to a convenience store with chips, a fountain machine with a variety of sodas, grab and go sandwiches and many of items to serve city dwellers.
“We are excited about our new smaller store concept and the opportunity to serve busy, city-dwellers with everyday low prices on the essentials they need in a convenient, easy-to-shop format,” Todd Vasos, Dollar General’s CEO, said in a statement. “The DGX format is geared to meet the needs of the millennial shopper, which is an emerging and important part of our customer base and will help us broaden our appeal to attract a new segment of urban customers who put a high premium on value and convenience.”  (source) I asked around last Sunday and nearby neighbors told me at the end of August.

Yesterday I was walking up Chestnut street and saw that Campers Shoes (1734 Chestnut St) had closed and in it’s place was this store window full of an explosion of fantastical colors but what did it mean.  I did some research, and it turns out that it’s a new campaign connected with the launch of M∙A∙C Cosmetics stores opening around the world. The Chestnut Street store is opening in the Fall of 2017,

and for what I’ve seen on the internet the store openings are a lot of fun. I can’t wait to shoot it. How awesome that M∙A∙C Cosmetics will have another stand a lone store in Rittenhouse

Speaking of Rittenhouse Square, Bruce Willis who was in town prepping for M Night Shyamalan’s movie “Glass” was spotted @ Barclay Prime for dinner arriving at 7PM and leaving at 9:30PM, b4 heading across the park to Scarpetta for nightcap last nite. He’ll be back in September along with the rest of the cast of GlassJames McAvoySamuel L. Jackson, and Anya Taylor-Joy along with franchise newcomer Sarah Paulson.  Samual Jackson said in an interview in Collier “We start rehearsal on [September] 18th and I start shooting on the 25th.”. They’ll be filming for 8 weeks, with many weeks of the shooting happening on the streets of Philadelphia, a bit in the studio and the rest outside of the City. Paparazzi HughE is ready.  Filming is scheduled until Thanksgiving, with a movie release date of January 18, 2019.  Heery Loftus Casting can help you become a star, or at least an extra on this movie. Glass is a direct sequel to Split and Unbreakable, bringing together the casts of both movies helmed by Shyamalan.

Crazy, Greg Seitter gets back from a relaxing vacation, then spends a day getting pies thrown in his face for charity. Sweet.
“I will be hosting a pie in the face fundraiser tomorrow afternoon to raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society‘s #LightTheNight campaign. His supporters raised over $1000. I wonder if he’ll take more pies for more money?

#PCCBuzz DelFrisco’s Grille Headed to Broad Street, Will Smith & DJ Jazzy Jeff ; WXTU’s Crockett on the Move

Hope you’re Friday was awesome!! Yesterday morning  I made my debut on WOGL radio and then prepared two columns about Thursday night’s party – Philly Mag Best of Soiree, check out photos here: Philly Mag and one for Metro Philly ; I ran kinda late getting my post up earlier today so let’s just call this Saturday Scoop

P.S. Did I photograph you this week. Click on the links at the bottom for the links to the party pictures, but first check out what’s happening around town

What a dream come true to be live on air on my favorite radio station WOGL FM Thanks to the extraordinary producer Kevin Crockett, and the legendary Marilyn Russell for today. Listen to me again next Friday at 830am, and hopefully every Friday afterwards til eternity. I’ll be chatting about events around town and dropping some dope news, and celebrity stories that happen in Philadelphia, just like you’re about to read below:

Good news for Crockett on the horizon..

Cumulus Media announces that veteran Philadelphia on-air personality Kevin Crockett has been named co-host of 100.7 WLEV/Allentown’s new morning radio show Selena and Crockett. The new show will air weekdays from 5-10am and debuts in mid-August. Crockett joins 100.7 WLEV and Cumulus-Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton, PA, from CBS Radio-Philadelphia, where he’s been heard in the market for the last eight years. Crockett most recently served as the Executive Producer of 98.1 WOGL‘s The Breakfast Club and was previously heard mornings on 92.5 WXTU. He also spent time at the former Wired 96.5, where he started his career.

OH I forgot to mention Kevin and I both graduated from Paul VI High School, 20 years apart – ha

Ok let’s get to the big breaking news. Everyone has been wondering what restaurant is going to be a part of the new CAMBRiA hotel & suites Philadelphia project being built in Center City at Broad & Locust Sts.

On June 8th, 2016 Choice Hotels International Inc., Pearl Properties (who owns the parcel of land – 3 lots running from mid block to the corner of Broad and Locust Sts) and Concord Hospitality Enterprises Co. broke ground for the for the CAMBRiA hotel & suites Philadelphia ( 219 S. Broad St.)

The 15-story, 223 room hotel is being designed by DAS Architects Inc. (they do most of Pearl Properties) and will be managed by Concord.  The hotel sounds spectacular in the amenities they are planing including a state of the art fitness room, free wi-fi, a grab-and-go gourmet salads, sandwiches as well as a barista bar and a 3,000 square foot rooftop bar with views of the city where I can’t wait to hang; And it’s just been announced that

There will be an extensive selection of wines in custom designed displays throughout the dining area and the space will highlight the high ceilings, expansive storefront windows, and a prominently positioned curved bar to create a modern, elevated and vibrant feel. (According to DelFrisco’s spokesperson in a DM on Aug 1, 2017, they stated it’s going in at Broad & Locust Sts., which could mean the Perch/Varalli Restaurants, of the main hotel since the whole project is at Broad & Locust Streets) and the press release

The company describes its’ Del Frisco’s Grille delivers a more creative twists on American classic comfort food. Del Frisco’s Grille is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2018 and is going to have spectacular views of Broad and Locust Streets. The Grille, will be located across the street from the very hot, newly renovated and opened Palm Restaurant at the Bellevue (had lunch there yesterday, they’re starting to put up fun caricatures), and a couple blocks away from the delicious DelFrisco’s Steakhouse down the street (Was there Thursday night, and it was jammed packed with singles. Better than Tinder.)

Summer, summer, summertime
Time to sit back and unwind

You might have read last year that Actor/rapper Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff  are “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit it” as they are reuniting and touring this summer. They’ll be headlining Livewire Festival in the UK on August 27, and then  stopping by Croatia’s MTV Summerblast on August 25 and 26. The duo will no doubt performed songs from their new CD Consequence Of Sound, as well as songs from the five CDs they did together, including 1991’s Homebase, which spawned the Grammy-winning Summertime.  For the three weeks running up to the tour, the West Philly guys are rehearsing the tour in Philadelphia. There have been sightings of Will Smith running on Broad Street, and unfortunately for Jazzy Jeff, his car broke down on RT 95 near the Linc the other day as he was heading into town from the Wilmington area, where he lives.

Timberland opened a Tree Lab Experiential Store yesterday at their King of Prussia store.
The experiential Tree Lab concept store will feature carefully curated product collections and brand stories in a gallery-style setting that will completely change every six weeks.  Similarly to an art gallery. Hope it comes to the Center City store as well, I love that place.

Mimi
Congrats to Josh DeMarco who is a finalist in BehindTheChair’s “Haircut of the Year” competition.

FOOD PORN

Mimi
Looks like Lombard Cafe (700 Sansom St.) is nearly opened. Michael Klein wrote about it earlier this year.
Now when is PJ Clarke’s opening across the street at the Curtis Center?
I did stop by Craftsman Row around the corner for my favorite Buffalo Cauliflower last week.

Mimi
After the Car Show Sunday night, Mike and our friends headed to Barcelona Wine Bar on East Passyunk
What a surprise. The place was gorgeous, the staff was very nice, the food divine. Mike and I enjoyed the above dish Parrillada, which was $26.50 a person and so delicious.

PhillyChitChat’s 10th Anniversary is Today

I’ve been talking about it for a year now, PhillyChitChat’s 10th Anniversary, but still didn’t know what to say. I jotted a few important things down this morning….

Today is PhillyChitChat’s 10th Anniversary. I’m so excited to have reached the goal I set out to do a decade ago which was to chronicle Philly’s Social Scene and create a media distribution company (which now seems to be called “content provider”) shooting parties and then placing photos, stories gathered daily in media outlets mostly in Philly, but my work has appeared nationally.  Who can forget the car driving down the Art Museum Steps, or Kendra Wilkenson renting an apartment at Liberty One (that appeared in US Magazine after I sold the story to them,) or Kate Plus Eight and her boyfriend at the Red Ball holding hands; (Wow that brought me a lot of hate mail)

7-7-2017 10-12-40 AM (Custom)
Taken at the McDonald’s on South Broad Street in 2007 (Us Magazine)

Since I was a little kid, I was always the one friends and family would come to and ask what the latest chit chat happening, and I enjoyed sharing it; dad called me Hedda Hopper (google it). Fast forward to when I was a paralegal at a law firm, Kohn, Swift & Graf, (yes I took those pixs on the website) where at one time one of the partners told me I had to stop gossiping and concentrate more on my work. Eventually in the 1990s I would become the traveling paralegal of the firm, yes Mike Toub this part is important to my story….

10th

KSG, specifically my boss Bill Hoese, sent me to NYC to work on a great case. I figured out how to live there cheaper than commuting every day thus crossing off a goal I wanted to do all my life – live in NYC. After working 8 – 12hr days, I found I still had time to explore, and discovered I liked chronicling the celebrity nightlife in Manhattan. It was so much fun, and this was before many of the current celebrity sites were online, before FB got big, or twitter or Instagram were added to the Webster Dictionary.

10th

At the urging of Mike Toub (hubby) I started a blog about photographing celebrities, the photographers, the fans, the professional autograph seekers, basically the whole scene called Confessions of a Paparazzi. It was exciting time, I had a knack at finding out info on where the celebs would be, and using the info to my advantage where celebrity photographers would let me tag along with them as long as I didn’t get in their photos. The blog allowed me to share these adventures with a larger audience. I also contributed stories and photos to Perez Hilton and Gawker for links back to my blog.

10th
A few of my paparazzi friends at the Waverly Inn in NYC capturing Anne Hathaway and her boyfriend in 2007

After returning to Philly when the assignment was up, surprisingly to none, I became a professional celebrity photographer. I would continue to travel to NYC to photograph celebrities for the next 5 years after work, over night and then would go to work in Philly the next day very tired. It was a lot of fun. All my vacation days – 4 weeks, were spent living in NYC so I could pursue my hobby.

10th

Thanks to my friends Simon and Kati Curtis for letting me sleep on their Manhattan couch for most of those four years (2007 – 2011).

I met Simon (left) in 2005 during my early days of celebrity stalking, er I mean as a blogger. It was the best of times. It was the day after this photo was taken at our July 4th 2007 Party here in Philly, where Simon, Katie, Mike and I brainstorm a name for my new blog, which would allow me to post and write about happenings, and conversations in Philly.  Simon came up with the name – Philly Chit Chat. That name was a great catch all for what I wanted to cover in Philly. On the right in this photo are my good friends Greta Greenberger , longtime tour director of Philly City Hall and Alan Greenberger. (Eventually Allan would become a deputy mayor under Mayor Nutter. At no time did Allan or Greta ever tip me off to anything regarding the City; and I never asked them. I had other sources and I really appreciate them as I was able to break so many stories that definitely helped propel my blog upward.

10th
Thom Cardwell and Phyllis Halpern (I guess it was before I learned how to pose people)

Let me back up a few months before this, I returned to Philly in Jan 2007; I was really depressed as the nightlife here as far as I could tell was non-existent, or only on Saturday night. I told my neighbor Phyllis Halpern how I wanted to chronicle the scene in Philly as well as photograph celebrities. She brought me to a party and she introduced me to Thom Cardwell who was with the Phila Film Festival, an organization which feted celebrities during their film festivals and sometimes beforehand. Thom along with James Duggan mentored me the for about 6 months,

10th

taking me to parties with “celebrities” and local notables. It’s a good thing our town loves our on air talent, I did too, and I was grateful that they allowed me to photograph them.

7-6-2017 11-36-52 AM
The first photo (March 2007) I had published in Philly press was in Dan Gross’ Philly Gossip Column; Sure this shot is about Vince Fumo meeting Angie Everhart at a movie screening at the Prince on Chestnut, but Vince had a red string on his wrist. I had seen this string before on Madonna, and knew it was to ward off evil. Vince was just about to be sentenced. I told Dan about it and he got the whole story; but when the photo was edited for the paper their wrists were cut off. It drove me crazy, but I was still thrilled to be published. My career in the papers was short lived as Dan told me the DN didn’t have a budget for shots like these, even if they were great shots.

7-7-2017 10-11-26 AM (Custom)
One of the first Inqling’s contributions. Tony Luke Jr. and cast of “The Nail: The Story of Joey Nardone” eating at Victor’s in South Philly

I was a huge fan of both Dan and Michael Klein, Philly Inquirer – Inqlings; probably more of Michael as he wrote nice stories about people, where Dan got juicy with his stories. I knew for longevity my stories had to reflect how I lead my life.  – I was a big fan of Inqlings. I read it every time it was published. A lot of those times they had celebrity sightings from the night before; having worked in NYC with PR/talent I knew he must have been getting tipped off beforehand as columns have deadlines. I convinced him I could get shots of the celebrities at Philly places, and I would also bring him interesting content for his the column. He gave me a shot, and I went on to contribute to his column for 4 years before he retired it. After Mike retired his column I was able to convince Dan to pick up a few of my shots, even if unpaid. To me I needed a great place to put my celebrity shots, and at events I got plenty of them.  First I tried in Philly Mag, but it just didn’t work out. I always liked seeing them in the “paper” or online for the paper. Thanks to both these guys for allowing me to contribute to their columns.

10th

He introduced me to Nicole Cashman,  a maverick in her own right, she’s always had the best clients to cover and the rest is history.  Klein wanted a shot from the opening of G Lounge for the column. It was Nicole’s client.

7-7-2017 8-18-16 AM (Custom)
This is the shot that appeared in Inqlings from GLounge Opening with a guest, then in the brown jacket Dave Warren, John Clark and Gervase Peterson, Survivor star. We had a lot of reality stars in Philly, especially chefs. I first photographed Cheftestant Jen Carroll in 2007, and the rest is history. I would write about her for years to come. We became good friends as well, which unfortunately, I stopped writing about her as much, trying to protect her private life. It’s happened a lot over the years. It’s a good thing as well because it’s allowed me to attend parties and events that other press are not invited to, and often get exclusive shots and coverage at these events as people knew they could trust me. I only wanted what could be published that didn’t negatively effect someone’s life. Sometimes I failed at this, but more often I succeeded.

His debut at XIX in 2011

I have to thank Joey Sweeney of Philebrity too (ie Gawker of Philly). I went to him early on and said I’m going to be writing about Philly, and Philadelphians basically creating Philebrities and I know you like to write about those people; but these Philebrities are going to help me promote charities and charity organizations. He understood and I felt free to begin what I needed to do without the fear of being written about in a negative way. I am highly oversensitive as you all know. Over the years he did write about a few of my Philebrities, who can forget Arthur Kade, and he often linked to stories to expound on them on his site. All of this was hugely helpful, and I appreciate it. When he featured my coverage of the Phillies winning the World Series and then the destruction of Center City, his site was picked up by national sites which drove hundreds of thousands of readers to my site. Phillies Win World Series, Idiots Thank Them by Rioting and Looting

The AfterParty for screening of Night Catches You at Chestnut club, Phila Pa

The AfterParty for screening of Night Catches You at Chestnut club, Phila Pa – Thanks to Philly Style Magazine and Nicole Cashman, who first credentialed me to shoot their parties. Yes it’s true sometimes I didn’t get in. Philly Mag turned me down 2 years in a row back in the day. I’m proud to say I’ve gotten competing publications placed in competitors columns cause, these are important parties happening in Philly. I thank all the publications for trusting me in my decision making. Nicole Cashman was on top of things, she understood what I was trying to do. I wanted to create a scene; I set out to cover events and publish daily. I wanted to be more than the paper which at the time published these parties in the society column once a week, or a magazine once a month. Eventually in the following years parties, and now, parties are held every day of the week. People will show up, they’ll even buy tickets to attend a good party any night of the week.

Then there’s Sabrina Tamburino Thorne who allowed me to cover her life from engagement to wedding, to baby. For many years I was “Paralegal by day, Paparazzi by night” until I parted ways with Kohn Swift 12/31/10, Mike said let’s see if you can make a living doing your blog cause I know you love it so much. I’ll support you for a year. A few months later I realized the only way I could make money was to be hired by PR/Clients to shoot parties as an event photographer, often I would suggest they keep their house photographer if they had one, and I would use the photos took to place in the media as well as on my blog, promote their events on Social Media and pr give them photos for their social media.  I then told my readers I would be starting an event photography business, but would still write as I did the previous 3 years – who, what, when and where of the parties. Shortly after I became a professional event photography, and it’s been growing ever since.

This month, I celebrate 6 years as a regular contributor to Philly Mag with my own column in the magazine. That is my pride and joy. I also create content for  PhillyStyle Magazine, Metro Philly, Phila Business Journal, Liberty City Press, and am often featured on TV news shows, which is very nice.  I’m so glad to have played a part in photographing the City as it came into it’s own in the last decade. I now have 3 photographers that work for me Andre Flewellen, Mike Hirata and Talya Hailey, a business/Managing partner – Lynsie Solomon, and my sister Janine DeFeo who does our scheduling, and invoicing. Most importantly I worked with so many wonderful charities getting the word out on the wonderful work they do, including Gilda’s Club, The Linda Creed Foundation and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

My love, my one constant mentor Laura Burkhart since 2007 – This photo has a funny story to it.

These days parties and scenes are happening 7 days a week. I am so grateful to you all for my success.  Thank you to the PR/Charities/People who hire us.

Here’s to another 10 years of Philly Chit Chat.

Oh BTW what did I write about on the first PhillyChitChat Blog Post – I complained about the rain on Fourth of July, and why do they keep putting banks on corners.

Next Week I will be doing columns of “My Favorite Photos”, “The Best Celebrity Moments”, “The Best Events”, “Things that Disappeared” ,  and “The Most Fashionable in Philly” in the last decade.

Jon Dorenbos Gets Married, Why Was The Bounty Hunter and Donnie Wahlberg in Town and More Fun Tidbits

Jon Dorenbos Gets Married, Why Was The Bounty Hunter and Donnie Wahlberg in Town and More Fun Tidbits

Sunday June 25, 2017 time is flying by. How gorgeous was yesterday. I covered the Boyz II Men street naming event and will have photos and behind the scenes coverage for you tomorrow. In the meantime here’s today’s Philly Gossip/Around Philly happenings. Can you believe it the July 4th Weekend is next weekend. OK get out today and enjoy it, it’s going to be a beaut’ as dad would always say.

Jon

Eagles long-snapper Jon Dorenbos married longtime girlfriend Annelise Dale on the beaches of Mexico June 17. The duo told me last year they met in Las Vegas in 2015, and have been inseparable ever since.  Dorenbos, who is set to enter a record breaking 12th season as the Eagles long-snapper.  Congrats you two. This is an epic shot I pulled off Jon’s instagram.

Yesterday Fox 29’s Dave Kinchen ran into the Dog Bounty Hunter outside the Ritz Hotel on Broad Street. “Dog the Bounty Hunter” and wife, Beth Chapman, are in town as they’re appearing in Trenton today for a Community Town Hall Meeting on Bail Reform in New Jersey. Pastor Dorion Morgan, who is hosting the Chapmans at his church on Sunday, the Restoration Station Christian Fellowship Church, is a criminal defense attorney who has seen this unconstitutional side of the bail reform. (source)
jonBefore heading to the Wells Fargo Center to perform in the NKOB, Boyz II Men, and Paula Abdul concert, Donnie Wahlberg headed to the Piazza and his family’s namesake eatery Wahlburger’s. He met contest winners from IHeartMedia and filmed a segment for his families reality tv show on A&E.

His band mate Danny Wood, worked out at Planet Fitness in South Philly yesterday afternoon. Seems it was back, biceps and abs day according to his twitter.

Jon
Former Miss Philadelphia Ryann Richardson, moved to DC a few years back. She participated in the Miss DC USA 2017 pageant and came in 2nd. When Miss DC 2017 was chosen as Miss USA earlier this year, Ryann became Miss DC USA 2017. Next Saturday she will be officially crowned. Interestingly enough, this same scenario happened last year with Miss DC 2016 being picked as Miss USA 2016. Jon
Another winner is Ashley Taylor, who owns DFTI Boutique on Chestnut Street. She won Best Women’s Boutique 2017. Congrats are also in order for Kory Aversa, who had 12 clients who won in their best of categories. Jon
Philly Style Magazine was recently bought by Modern Luxury. Which is a privately held company represented many luxury brand magazines. Expect more of the best of the beautiful, as well as photos by me. Jon
This month I have a few columns in Philly Style including this great shot that Kevin Hart gave me at the Arts + Business Council Awards last month.  Don’t forget Kevin Hart Day is coming in in Philly on July 6 and the actor/comedian will be back in town. Stay with Philly Chit Chat for updates. Jon
Also in the issue is my new bff in my head, Kristen Alderson. You may recall her from her years on One Life To Live as Starr Manning. I was a serious fan boy. I was so right, she is the sweetest person, kind and generous as is her brother Eddie and mom Kathy. So glad to get to know them. 6-22-2017 10-02-28 AM (Custom)

Talk about sweet and kind, Congrats to matchmaker Steve Ward and Madison Pard on their upcoming nuptials. 6-24-2017 10-23-34 PM (Custom)

Congrats to Fox 29’s Alissa Frick and Tony Frick, Manna Board President on their upcoming production. So adorable.6-24-2017 10-44-12 PM (Custom)
Yesterday I saw the most beautiful bride on the Art Museum Steps, but couldn’t grab a shot from my speeding car. So I looked up photos of who was on the steps yesterday and found this interesting story of a girl biking across the country for charity.
I’m just a simple gal on two wheels with restless legs.   My name is Marisol Gomez.  Some call me an extremist, but I just like to push my limits.   Having played competitive sports most of this life, my aspirations continue to flourish.  For the last five years, I have thought about riding a bicycle cross-country.  When a friend told me he and his wife had bicycled from Long Beach, CA, to Long Beach, NY, it really got my gears turning.”
6-24-2017 11-09-02 PM (Custom)

Then there was this cute sketch of the city from the steps, including the scaffalding around City Hall. It’s been 8 weeks, I hope it’s done by July 4. I should write someone and find out.6-10-2017 12-57-38 PM (Custom)

Hey Jillian Mele , Fox and Friends, was back in town to get her locks done by Salon Vanity’s  Edmondo Blando. He does all the anchor babes, many of them coming back in town just to get their locks done by him like former Fox 29 babe Kacie McDonnell

Jon

So long Penne restaurant and wine bar. You had a good run. Look how adorable Roberta Adamo is with her new ‘do. Wishing her a happy retirement.
We had so much fun in the early days.

Jon
Speaking of never really gone legendary Chef Georges Perrier, is now back in the kitchen as Master in Residence at Walnut Hill College. He’s teaching/mentoring the
chefs of tomorrow. That’s terrific.
OK see you tomorrow, or on instagram today.

Connor Barwin Moves to Fishtown, Babies, Weddings, Pride Day Philadelphia

Connor Barwin Moves to Fishtown, Babies, Weddings, Pride Day Philadelphia

Happy Father’s Day and Happy Pride Day Philly.

6-18-2017 12-27-29 AM (Custom)
This past weekend former Philadelphia Eagles, now LA Ram’s player Connor Barwin and bride, Laura Barwin, packed up the remaining belongings from their house on Delancey Street in Rittenhouse Square
Barwin
and headed to their new Philadelphia digs in Fishtown. Connor told me earlier this year that he’d be staying in Philly, but only needed half the house as he’ll only be staying here half the time.  Fishtown seems to be on fire, earlier this year Little Pete told me if he were to open up another diner it’d be in Fishtown.

Barwin
Speaking of Eagles players, artist Perry Milou met up with QB Carson Wentz recently after the 2nd year rising star saw Perry’s work on a friends FB page.

Barwin
Speaking of Rocking it – Rocky is open again after a refresher. The sidewalk has been widened, and there’s a cute tiny fence installed around the popular statute to keep tourist off the grass, and not cut through the bushes to the side steps that make their way up to the Art Museum and city view.
This shot was taken yesterday afternoon during a drizzle. I hope to see you there today for the Gary Papa Run at 630am, which for me is in 4 hrs, yikes.

Congrats Brett Rosenbloom and Tina Strausser

Barwin

Congrats to former G Lounge GM, and now Owner/Chef at Masters Bar & Restaurant Waylon Nelson, and Francesca DiDomenico-Nelson on their upcoming baby boy.

Thinking of you today Tara Lessard, longtime photographer of LGTBQ events, and everyday as you battle stage 4 ovarian cancer.

Congrats ladies, and Happy Pride Day Barwin
I saw this Saturday , amazing that a small country town like Woodbury, NJ could have rainbow flags on poles, stating Everyone is Welcome.

As many of you know I attended my uncle’s funeral on Friday. My Aunt Mary addressed the crowd at the luncheon and said love one another, tell the people who are in your life that they’re important, and when you are out in public, and you pass people by, strangers you don’t know, smile. A smile, a kind word and acknowledgment goes a long way. You never know how your day or their day is going to end. It’ll make a difference in both your days and a smile says so much.

Fashion Plate of the week
I spotted this guy on Chestnut Street on June 14 – Flag Day.
He wins the day, the week and every holiday this year in the best USA Pride.

Speaking of Pride and Flags….

I hope to see you at Pride today, smiling and waving whichever flag you feel represents you best:

JD Rivera, Kevin Hart, Mike Schmidt, Roots Picnic , Save The Date, Dana Spain Married

Good Sunday, hope you are having an enjoyable weekend.  Here’s another edition of Philly Gossip, tidbits and Save The Date’s for events I think you might enjoy attending. Also just want to tell you I’m leaving for Alaska this week, don’t fret I’ve filled Philly Chit Chat up with blog posts so keep coming back every day for photos and food for thought. Last summer Cabot Cheese surprised me with a cruise to Alaska with 50 or so more charitable minding folks. Seems my friend Marilyn Russell nominated me for the Cabot Cheese program for the charitable work I have done over the years with the Linda Creed Foundation, PAWS, Donors Are Hero’s, Gilda’s Club,  American Foundation of Suicide Awareness all of which I’ve volunteered for 6 plus years. And then the more recent organizations – MANNA, Komen Philadelphia, Comfort Home For Veterans, Living Beyond Breast Cancer and many more which I promote through my various social outlets.  Even charities who hire me to photograph their events, I try and give back in ways that go beyond my reasonable rates. I’m excited to meet other volunteers from around the country. I also volunteer for Cabot Cheese Foundation, participating in their annual poker tournament every summer at the Borgata for the past 3 years. We Honor Volunteers & Support Communities Our Department of Gratitude reflects the values of the farm families who own Cabot Creamery Cooperative.

JD Rivera
Congrats to Philly boxer and hometown hero JD Rivera, Rivera beat the odds to go pro and moved to Philly because of its rich boxing history. His career in the ring has been full of hard knocks, but the sport has given him a new lease on life. That’s why Rivera does what he can through his gym, the Warrior Boxing Academy, to make boxing accessible to working class folks in his community of South Philadelphia. New equipment was sponsored by Coors Light they believe in celebrating the journey of those who see challenges as opportunities, which is why we chose to feature Rivera as part of our digital short documentary series, “My Climb, My Story.” The film series features individuals across the country who conquer their personal mountains to better themselves and their communities.

JD Rivera
I was so busy this week, but really wanted to go to this all day radio marathon – the All Star Day Live! featured 97.5 The Fanatic’s All Star Personalities and Celebrity Contributors Live, On-Site, for an all-day broadcast at Commerce Square. There was food & beverage specials from Pagano’s, fun & games, and meet & greet pictures with celebrity athletes including Jaws above, fresh off of the NFLDraft. Their goal was to promote, fund-raise and help further AACR’s Mission:
The mission of the American Association for Cancer Research is to prevent and cure cancer through research, education, communication, and collaboration. Through its programs and services, the AACR fosters research in cancer and related biomedical science; accelerates the dissemination of new research findings among scientists and others dedicated to the conquest of cancer; promotes science education and training; and advances the understanding of cancer etiology, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment throughout the world.

Another Philly Socialite off the market
Congrats Allie and Steve!!

Thank you Mike Schmidt in your efforts to prevent skin cancer. Take it from someone who is a candidate, who sometimes forgets the importance of sunscreen, or it wears off during the day. What an amazing idea to have sunscreen dispensers through out Philly. I love that they’re yellow too. The dispensers will be located at City Hall, on Kelly Drive near Lloyd Hall and at CBP Phillies home

Little Pete’s Party on May 30, Hall & Oates Tix Sale, John Tesh, Smokey Robinson, Kate Plus 8, Tigre Hill

Details on Little Pete’s Party on May 30, John Tesh, Smokey Robinson, Kate Plus 8, Tigre Hill

We made it through the rain, we kept our world protected, we made it thought the rain, we kept my point of view, welcome to less than soggy Sunday, and another edition of Philly Gossip. First of all I hope to see as many of you as possible at the Komen Mother’s Day Walk today in front of the Art Museum. The NFL Draft stage is finally down, yeah. Unfortunately William Penn is covered in scaffolding, so blah on that. Plus remember to wear your boots cause it’s going to be a muddy mess on Eakins Oval.

Pete
I saw this sign up at the Little Pete’s at the Philadelphian. After May 29th it will be the only Little Pete’s left. Pete tells me that on Tuesday May 30, 2017 from 11AM to 3PM he will be shutting down Chancellor Street next to the Little Pete’s on 17th Street and will be throwing a good old fashion Greek Party with free food, free music and a little bit of wine. Then he wants everyone to head on over to Little Pete’s at the Philadelphian for the “Event of the Century” from 5 – 9PM. I was at the last event of the century party and it was spectacular. Unfortunately after throwing all the dollar bills at the dancing Greeks, he had his bus boys sweep them up and returned them to the throwers. I was envisioning a Joey Coyle thing before the brooms came out.

Pete
Team Derek was on hand to greet John Tesh as he flew into PHL Airport on Friday night. Tesh played the Golden Nugget, Atlantic City, NJ last night.
