PHILLY STYLE MAGAZINE PARTY, THE PHILLY ZOO ALE PARTY AND Lightning

The Philly Style Magazine Party was held last Thursday night at Vie on North Broad Street. It was hot, hot and hot as some of Phillies most fashionable, well heeled, outrageous personalities, and the most party clever party crashers made an appearance.

Megan Usefara and the demure Kate Beaver
Check out the rest of the party goers in my column at Philly.com which I will link at bottom of page.

The after party was held at Zee Bar. Originally I was going to put these pixs in the column, but the two ladies on the left escaped before I could get their names. One of the most stylish men in Philly, as well as the smartest, Brian Taylor. He holds the guest list to the door, and can recognize a VIP at 500 feet. With Arthur Kade, who graduated from DB to entertainment correspondence on Extra TV, he resides in NYC now. Good for him. The other day I was just pitching a story of him to a screenwriter.

Saturday night I headed over to the Philadelphia Zoo for their 5th Annual Ale Festival. It was also hot, packed and people had a great time.

The zoo has a new parking garage now, it’s only $15 to park. That’s a convenient price I’d pay.
I left the Zoo cause of the approaching lightning storm.
In the beginning of the night it really stayed to the south so I headed to the top of the Art Museum Steps to capture a few shots.
 It was spectacular
Hey today’s my birthday. TAYLOR SWIFT Ralph’s Italian Restaurant, AUSTIN MAHONE AND ED SHEERAN TWO DAY WEEKEND IN PHILLY

Last week was a whirlwind for the fan girls & boys of Philadelphia as Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato, Big Time Rush and the epic Taylor Swift’s RED tour (With Ed Sheeran & Austin Mahone) came through town.

(Updated) Friday late nite (midnight) I got a tip that Taylor Swift was eating at Ralph’s Italian Restaurant in South Philly, so I hoofed it over there. Originally her SUV was parked in front of the restaurant, so I hung across the street w/the friends I brought with me to shoot her departure. At some point a fangirl friend wrote me and asked me where the restaurant was, she had heard Taylor was inside eating from twitter. Next thing you know 7 fans are there, some with their moms in PJ’s. Taylor got spooked and had the car pick her up at the back door. We weren’t able to get close as the police kicked us off the block. When she came out she looked beautiful in a white dress, and then the police motorcade took her back to the Four Seasons. Sadly for the 20 fans waiting there, she had her driver take her into the hotel through the loading dock. Although they did say earlier in the evening Taylor’s mom did come out and greet them.
(Taylor left a whopping tip: Taylor Swift $500 Tip Ralph’s Italian Restaurant
and gave tickets to the Chef http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2377612/Taylor-Swift-shows-paddle-boarding-skills-Rhode-Island.html )

The next day the restaurant posted this fun photo of the group inside.
Ralph’s Italian Restaurant in South Philly – Taylor Swift, Austin Mahone
and Ed Sheeran (r) had dinner Friday Night. The restaurant kept the
place open for them past their 1045PM closing time. The party arrived at
midnite and left at 130AM. Taylor and the boys enjoyed Chicken Parmesan
– Owner – Edward Rubino
This is how they asked the room to be set up as. note, that all the diners would face each other
Saturday all three learned they were nominated for a VMA. They took this shot inside the restaurant.

I
did catch up with Austin Mahone who left via the front door. Austin
told me the concert was great, the fans were supportive and he hoped to
check Philly out a bit on Saturday.

|

Saturday Austin Mahone had a meet and greet with listeners from Q102 radio station, at the Franklin Institute.

Fans hanging outside The Franklin Institute waiting for the departure of Austin Mahone from the Q102 Meet & Greet.

Ed Sheeran performs at a private concert for listeners of Q102. It was
held at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. He told a story of how he was
learning to drive Friday at The Linc. He accidentally backed into
something because he forgot you were supposed to look backwards. His
guitars all have names, this one is Zero.

At one point during the event he played Rock, Scissors, Paper with DJ
Maxwell. Maxwell won and Sheeran had to tweet to his 6 million followers
that he lost the game to Maxwell.

Ed Sheeran tweeted this photo. After the concert Ed was spotted on South Street at Jim’s Steaks having a cheese steak. It must be his favorite spot as he ate there in December after the Jingle Ball too.

Ryan Seacrest Instagram Photo – Taylor Swift visited several patients at
Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania where The Ryan Seacrest Foundation
has a music program, Saturday afternoon.

She gave them all signed photos

Ed Sheeran took this shot Saturday night from the stage at Lincoln Financial Field. What a great view, and I love the wind turbines generating electricity.

Thanks to fan Jessica who took this photo with a pocket Sony camera

After his performance Saturday night he headed over to the Susquehanna
venue and took in a Lil’ Wayne, T.I. And 2 Chainz concert. Lil Wayne
and Austin Mahone were both staying at the Ritz Carlton and must have bumped into
each other there. TI and 2 Chainz were staying at the Four Seasons.

Saturday night the skies opened and delayed the concert for an hour. The fans were evacuated to the concourse without incident. But the show must go on and it did. I heard the concert was amazing, I can’t believe I didn’t go, but I didnt buy the CD and fall in love with Taylor til after they were all sold out. Next Time!

DEMI LOVATO IN PHILLY, JUSTIN BIEBERS LIVING OUT LOUD

Sweet Demi Lovato was in town this past week to perform at the Pop-Tart Summer Concert.  The concert was announced July 2, as I wrote on my blog. It wasn’t a surprise to me that she cancelled the July 4th appearance at Philly Jam as I stated.

Yesterday she was making an appearance at Q102 at 2PM so I went by her hotel (Monaco, 5th & Chestnut) about 1PM to catch her departures, as did a few fans.
Love her hair do, and that denim shirt must be her fave and she has a few cause she wore it Wednesday, then on stage and then yesterday again. I love the guy behind her and his zoot suit.  Check out the photos from the Pop-Tart concert in my Philly Mag column,
Philadelphia News, Weather and Sports from WTXF FOX 29
watch what I had to say about Justin Bieber living out loud. The update on NY Post, seems that he hooked up with two ladies he met at 1OAK as he left his fans suffering on the sidewalk of the Four Seasons while they waited for him. Watch my appearance on  Good Day Philly and listen to my interview on B101 today with Jenn & Michael.

TBT: BUTCHER AND SINGER OPENING – October 2008 – Who was moving & shaking it then?

Can you believe it’s going to be 5 years this October since Stephen Starrs’ Butcher & Singer opened, wow!!

I wrote: One of the first things I noticed when entering the restaurant was the vast huge ceilings and the vibrant but warm golden tone to the hue of the walls, oh and these huge chandeliers.
Sure I had been to the Striped Bass a few times, and that was huge, but
it seemed huge, this is huge but it seems comfortable and much warmer.
Tailored to a broad market of patrons, Butcher and Singer strives to
bring back the “power lunch,” popularize the after-work cocktail and
appeal to high-stakes business dinners or romantic evenings.

The GM at the time, Monica Malpass, 6ABC and Donna Govberg
Natalie McDonald, Meg Rider, Jim Donovan (he never ages), Stephanie Stahl and Matt Vlahos

Councilwomen Blondell Reynolds Brown, Sharon Pinkenson, Melanie Johnson and Nicole Cashman

 Dana Lombadro and Scott Barnes
Scott Sigman, Marybeth, Joe Barber, Susan Helfrich and Laura Burkhardt
BILL GREEN is a City Councilman At-Large in the City of Philadelphia and his wife Margie. Not sure of the other guy (l). Even tho these have watermarks it doesnt seem I used this particular photos.
Stephen Starr and Chef Shane Cash
Megan Stecher (seems she and Mac have moved to LA), guest, and Brooke Dillon (I didn’t know her back then)
Elaine Graber, guest and Joe (This guy is always great, I can never remember his name.)
Doug and Holly Kammerer, Justin Wineburgh, John Middleton (I didn’t know him then), Andrew Rosenthal (this was a year before he introduced me to Maria Papadakis and before he went to Harvard to go to Grad school, he’s smart.), Jason Duran and Casey Anderson

Anthony and Lauren Sembello (they weren’t married yet), Sabrina and Steve Thorne (they weren’t married yet) Donna Masonova and Carol Tamburino
Thom Cardwell, Mary Patel, Bobbie Booker and Joe Barber
– WOW that was going down memory lane…

Taylor Swift & Q102 at SLICE PIZZA IN WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP

Last week Slice Pizza and Q102 hosted

a Taylor Swift Ticket giveaway for her concert Friday and Saturday Night at Lincoln Financial Field.

Jason and Marlo Dilks, Marissa and Sandra
The Rucola and Pistachio Pizza
Olive oil topped with mozzarella and ricotta, finished with diced
tomato, arugula, pistachio and a hint of white truffle oil.

Large will be $21.99
Small will be $14.99

Fans started arriving around 6PM to pick up their raffle tickets. It was kinda neat as it was an actual raffle ticket stapled onto a “vip” bracelet that Angelina was receiving.
Meghan Kelly and Rhiannon Resinly. Then the wait started, many of the peeps enjoyed the delicious slice pizza. I had the pepperoni.

 Ian and @BagGalAngyyy

 Lisa Formelio and Jade Cunningham
 Britt Rutter and Geena Carey
 Lauren Beaumont and Rose Beaumont

Not only is Slice a pizza parlor, but they have a beautiful dining area too.

Cassie Scull was passing her time eating pizza, salad and studying for her GRE’s. That is a good use of time when “fanning out”.

There were two drawings for tickets, and even if you didn’t win they had trivia for the fans to win other items.
A good amount of people showed up in hopes of winning the tickets.

Congrats to Emma Kern who won tickets to Friday’s Taylor Swift concert. She’s taking her dad Bill. That’s brother Ryan on the right.

YELPER’S REVIEW THE YELP ELITE PARTY AT NORTH SHORE & Photos

This review is for the event itself, and not for the North Shore Beach Club (that’s a separate review already given), says

 Kaley Kyle and Akshay Menon

Marissa R – I got to say, you can’t be disappointed by a free evening of lovely
Philadelphians – poolside – sipping on some tasty food and drinks by a
few of the hot restaurants in town! The vendors really were awesome, and
they were what made the night a blast. The “bartender” serving us
poolside sangria shots, the homemade gin couple from Pittsburgh, the
overflow of pita, hummus, guac, beer, etc. was awesome.

 Mike & Amie

Stacey S and Jim
I have yet to be disappointed at a Yelp Elite Event, and this is no
exception! Michelle C, you must be the best community manager Yelp has,
hands down! First off I have to say how much I absolutely LOVE how
involved you are

 Clary and Chris

 Victoria, Brian and Kate

Abbie D – Beer selections were spot on and the local food vendors were a lot of
fun.  Mad kudos to Chef Luca, Revolution House and his OUT OF CONTROL Guacamole!! – With April

 Delia and Nicole – Bitar

Maureen F and Andy F with Tim A and Puri
Olivia, Megan and Julia with some guys: Tan by
Skin Palette: Susie Celek and Julie Dorenbos

Michelle B- Since this was my 1st time at the North Shore Beach club I wasn’t sure
what to expect. It was a refreshing change of pace for an event.  I
appreciated how the numerous vendors were stationed mostly on the
perimeter of all the happenings. It gave ample space for people to walk
around comfortably to sample the variety of tasty food and services. I
was pleasantly surprised to see Mi Cumbia represented with free hand
massages as they talked about their mani/pedi services.. I am a FAN!!

Tara Lewis (Regional Director of Marketing ) and Cara Lageson (!)
Sara F, Nina S and Meghan
Michelle B. – Michelle C., what a fab summer event for us reviewers who spend many
hours giving so many business reviews, so others can make informed
opinions on services, establishments, customer service, et al.

To put it simple me & my + 1 had plain and simple FUN.

Rebecca S- Look, no offense to the many other cities internationally that are doing
the yelp thing, but Philadelphia is where it’s at. Last night was like
taking a little bit of everything awesome from this city, putting it in a
blender and spitting out nothing but fabulousness (I know it’s not a
word, it has a squiggle underneath it but for the sake of this review
GTFOB)

seriously though, not a sourpuss in-house. San Diego transplant Leo was
first in the pool with his little floaty showing everyone how to get the
party started, though the party starter very well could have been Ron
who was running around greeting everyone with “hey hey asshole!”
Happiness was found at every turn from the best vendors in the city and
while I was admittedly skeptical upon hearing the choice venue based on
size vs the number of RSVP’s,

the evening was kept at a manageable
number so that schmoozing, boozing, and eats were always easily
accessible. Absolutely astounding job yet again by Michelle, Enid, and
Northshore…if this was as close to a vacation setting as I’ll get this
summer, I’ll take it 🙂

Kim H. – My shirts off To Michelle and Yelp staff, vendors and North Shore
itself. In an event in which I was the most naked and wet that I’ve ever
been, here are the highlights.

– Sue G in a bikini
– Leo giving blowies in line
– the glowstick couple
– Jordan Ps hair splash.
– Ron Cs mustache
– Arts ” apple jacks”
– fantasies of splashing the shit out of the Spraytan Girls while screaming, ” Remember how mean you were to me in high school!”

David P. Check it out… a beach club full of Yelpers in the middle of NoLibs. A
DJ playin tunes all night. Dancin! Food everywhere! Drinks everywhere! A
pool! A pool! A pool! Dancin in the pool! Laughing! Relaxing! Where’d
the time go?!?!

Melissa P. –  Drumroll please for my fave bites and sips of the night…(although to
be fair it was more like full size portions and full cups, note to self:
NEVER EAT DINNER BEFORE A YELP EVENT.)
1. Cucumber Soup from Couch Tomato. Basically drinkable tzatziki. Might even be worth a trip to the Yunk…
2. Pumpkin Curry from Circles. Even when they ran out, I got a cup of broth, cus duh.
3. Truffle Pizza (before even getting in!) from Nomad Pizza Truck.
4. Watermelon Sangria from Sassafras. refreshing. delicious. blueberries. (above: Neill from Sassafras)
5. Blueberry Cider…from…Art? Whoever provided the cider, it was great.
6. Fresh rolled sushi from Pod. So many kinds! So many rolls! So good!
and so many more!

Rita’s Water Ice – and my Fox 29 fans. Thanks

Di P.–  FAVORITE Yelp Elite event fo’realzies. Thank you to all the vendors and
Yelp staff workin’ it because it was mad fab. At one point I was
lounging on the couch by the pool, feet up, shoes off, drink in hand,
man by my side, breeze in my afro, “Get Lucky” playing over the
speakers, the occasional splash from the other yelpers horsing around in
the pool and I thought to myself “This is literally the most relaxed
I’ve been in weeks!” and no wonder Don Draper does whatever he wants
with total disregard for everybody else because being a baller feels oh
so awesome.

Kelly C. – sassafras’ watermelon sangria was super fresh! think that was my fav
drank at the event– i also drank a lot of cider b/c the guy was beyond
ecstatic! jumping up n down promoting it like a cheerleader~ yeah he
reeled me in…

Charlene L. –  Special thanks to Michelle and Enid you really know how to party. All
the vendors were great especially Wigle Gin for teaching me the
distilling process

Barry E, Sara K, Michelle C, Gina R, Dash S, HughE D and Garrett O
