Be Social: Charity and Notable Events in Philly, Plus #PCCBuzz

Be Social – Every Sunday I’ll post upcoming events that have been sent to me that I think you’d be interested in attending, but since I’m creating this new “column” I want to play catch up. Often I put these events on on twitter, not so much on my other social media outlets. Nearly every time I photograph an event, a reader will ask “I wish I knew about this event.” I’ve always wanted to add these to my “public calendar” but doing that is too time consuming. So they’re here for you to put on your calendar.  Be sure to follow me on Twitter @iphillychitchat (#PCCBuzz), Instagram and Facebook: PhillyChitChat where I will post various events daily.

The Philly Social Scene is underway, whether it’s a grand gala, a trunk show, Forbes 30 under 30 I’ll fill you in, and in most cases will have photos and info from the event. Next to the events where I know I’ll be shooting I will say Smile, I’ll be here shooting.
but that doesn’t mean I won’t be at the other events it all depends on my client event schedule.

M. Night Shyamalan’s New Untitled Movie Starring James McAvoy & More Cast News – Weddings & Tidbits

 M. Night Shyamalan has tapped Heery’s Casting to find extras to appear in his new “untitled movie.” One name that is connected with the project, James McAvoy, most notable for X-Men: Days of Future Past.

He’s going to take over the role previously being eyed by Joaquin Phoenix.  Jason Blum, who paired with the director on Universal’s recent horror film The Visit, is producing the project. Marc Bienstock also produces, while Ashwin Rajan and Steven Schneider are on board as exec producers. The production office opened in Philly last week, and things are underway for another great success, after the sleeper hit Wayward Pines this past summer starring Matt Dillon.

Fox 29’s Quincy Harris and M. Night Shyamalanat Prince Theater in July

More Cast Members added:
: Anya Taylor Joy, Betty Buckley (Love her, we’re like best buds on twitter, ok maybe just in my mind), Jessica Sula and Haley Lu Richardson.

Congrats to Michelle Cassidy and Art Etchells

Rosemary Connors and Ben Cross
Tomorrow I’ll have photos of the two weddings I did attend. Crazy busy wedding weekend it was. So happy for all my friends.

Local guy Derek Michael got a great selfie with Shania Twain when she appeared in Bethlehem last week.

Hall and Oates at The Fillmore Philadelphia Last Night – Who else was there, What’s it look like inside

Hall and Oates makes a triumphant return to Philadelphia to christen The Fillmore Philadelphia

Last night Fillmore Philadelphia opened in Fishtown, adding another music venue to the list of others that have popped up over the past few years. The Fillmore Philadelphia is located at 1000 Frankford Avenue at the site of a defunct, 100-year-old World War II munitions. Live Nation’s House of Blues Entertainment (HoBE) division will run the new venue which can hold 2500 in the main concert room with a 450 seat venue called the Foundry on a 2nd floor, where smaller acts will perform. Remember that time when House of Blues was eyeing the building where Del Frisco’s is now located?

The founder of the first Filmore David Graham‘s former wife  Bonnie MacLean and son David Graham Jr. were on hand to see the opening of Filmore Philadelphia and sign posters which were given out to patrons later.
The 2nd floor Foundry nightclub, music venue. This is where 450 guests will sit to enjoy spirits and snacks while enjoying smaller bands and DJs.
Dave Fisher, SVP Business Development at Core Realty (they own the property the Fillmore sits on), Carol Tinari, Nino Tinari and Mia Tinari Fisher.
 The Foundry
Downstairs there a cool Filmore Philadelphia souvenir shop
Michael Schulson and Nina Tinari. Nina is the executive director of the Marian Anderson Awards, which is coming up November 10. See you there.
The Fillmore Philadelphia was quite the place to be last night. Lots of Philly’s tastemakers and shakers were there like Kim Garzone and Puri Garzone, Public House Holdings. Nearby I saw Steve and Tamar Olitksy, Drew Milstein, Brent Celek, Aly Bly, Kristin Detterline, Marisa Magnatta, Nicole Michalik, Matt Cord and these folks

Mandy Blumenthal   – Happy Happy Birthday month

Chris Murphy, Fox 29, Jeff Gordan, Live Nation and Mike Jerrick, Fox 29

 Amy Ridall and Cindy Webster

Mayor Nutter at the opening of Fillmore Philadelphia. He announced that he gave Hall and Oates two miniture Philadelphia Liberty Bells
Joseph Donahue, Ewing Cole, (They did the interior design inside the Fillmore), Theresa Donahue and Kenny Endt.
Hall and Oates christen the stage at Fillmore Philadelphia, performing their many favorite hits like Maneater, Rich Girl and my favorite Out of Touch.
I completely forgot to go upstairs as I was grooving with Aly, Steve, Tamar and Drew downstairs. I saw this on Marisa Magnatta’s page and you can really appreciate the crowd and the awesome chandeliers, which are trademarks of all the Fillmores along with the red curtains along the wall and on the stage.

On the Mainline: Daylesford Crossing Senior Living Opens and I can’t wait to be a senior

Daylesford Crossing Senior Living
opened this past summer on the site of the popular Jim Duffy’s restaurant in
Paoli. The restaurant was a popular hot spot for the well to do on the
Mainline, as well as the celebrated in Philadelphia and the world. Shuttered in
2006, the property remained unchanged until 2012 when Sage Senior Living acquired
the property.

The grand opening party was held on Tuesday September 29, 2015 to
great fanfare. Residents, their families, elected officials, with Paoli and
Malvern Business associates

attended the party which was catered by their in
house chef Frank De Benedetto, who uses the Sous-vide method of cooking meals
for the residents (Sous vide means “under vacuum” and involves
preparing food under tightly controlled temperature, vacuum sealing it, and
then cooking it very slowly. The result is intense flavors and amazing texture.).

Daylesford Crossing offers 78 rentals
with 64 personal care apartments and 14 specialized memory care apartments;
they have studios, one and two bedroom apartments and a milkshake machine.  Daylesford has named their café after Duffy’s,
and holds a happy hour there every afternoon.

Joan Sobel, Jeff Sobel and Peg Doyle
Donna Ferrazzi, Daylesford Crossing and Paul Duffy, Duffy’s catering. He owned the restaurant that was on this spot for nearly 18 years.

In the stairwell was a gorgeous living wall of plants

FAB Friends Try out The Sculpt Fitness Studio Megaformer

Last week I was invited to check out Sculpt Fitness Studio with a few of my friends. I decided to watch and shoot them as they did their 50-minute Megaformer workout involving.

The workout uses constant tension and full-body controlled movements all done on the Megaformer machine.

Clients work each muscle group slowly to fatigue with almost no impact on the joints or spine, strictly focusing on the muscles themselves

Stephanie Tolar, owner of Sculpt Fitness Studio, understands that their small classes can be intimidating, especially for those new to the Megaformer machine. That’s why Sculpt Fitness studio offers a Megaformer 101 introductory class for those who want to get comfortable with the machine before jumping into a 50-minute class.

Sculpt Fitness Studio offers clients something this city has been waiting for, personalized interaction and attention in a beautiful studio setting. “Instead of being one of 50 you are one of 10.”

“People in Philadelphia who are looking for something different to take their workout up a notch, Sculpt Fitness Studio is it.”

Sculpt Fitness Studio in Northern Liberties is the only place in center city that you  can get the Megaformer workout and Tolar has plans for expansion in the future. Sculpt’s Northern Liberties location is inside The Piazza with free parking behind   the studio.

“The best way to describe the workout is a Total Gym with the intensity turned  way up. The Lagree Fitness Method and machines are in a class by itself now   used by celebrities from Sofia Vergara to Michelle Obama. Keep an eye on their October schedule as they plan to launch a few new class  options in addition to the Megaformer 101 class. The First Class is $15, each additional class $25 or less with packages.
Welcome Sculpt Fitness Studio to Philly Chit Chat as an advertiser.

Madonna at Wells Fargo – The Pope Has A Crush On Me, While Complaining Philly Fans Didn’t Adore Her Enough

Thanks to Marilyn Russell and Live Nation for the invite to see my 4th Madonna concert. It’s always an experience. I remember going to my first Madonna concert in 1986, The Virgin Tour. Always controversial that Madonna.

She had just come off of the MTV Music Awards and at that time the most controversial thing ever done, rolling around on the stage in a virginal white wedding dress. That act made headlines around the world. Of course she would go on to out do, and out rage people for the rest of her career. But more on that later…

I think it started with Madonna that fans dressed as their favorite artist while attending their concert. It wasn’t as Halloweeny as last night seemed to be, maybe because the garb worn isn’t something someone would wear everyday. Back in 1985 Madonna influenced a lot of kids to wear ripped shirts, large crucifixes and an armful of black rubber bracelets. I remember getting a warning at my job as a busboy at Winston’s for wearing them. They made me take on 20 but allowed me to wear a conservative 5.  Above is Marilyn Russell with a few fans. i saw several Pope’s in the crowd so maybe we have that to look forward to this weekend.

Rebel Heart is on sale now, it’s a good buy. It’s no Like A Prayer, but then again it’s no Bedtime Story either – Thank GOD!
These two are magnificent.

Congrats to these fans who won tickets from BenFM 95.7
I ran into my bud Jenny DeHuff, Philly Daily News Gossip Girl. I also saw Victor Firillo from PhillyMag and

Marisa Magnatta, and her dad. It was Marisa and Marilyn’s first time seeing Madonna. I don’t think it was her Uncle George’s first time. He knew all the Madonna songs, and was dancing along with the rest of us.

Then her Madgesty took the stage at 945PM, YES 945PM. Geez girl. Anyway Madonna at 57 with her 13th Studio album still packs them in at the Wells Fargo
Looking flawless at 57, with moves of a 20 year old. Amazing body, and her voice is mature and smooth. Not like in her first tour where you could hear her speaking voice.

Definitely my favorite outfit of the night singing Like a Virgin of course.

The Beyonce effect.
I would have liked to put in an instagram video but my antiquated site wont let me. I’m doing an upgrade to the delight of my friends and fans, later this year. Here are a few musical selections.

Madonna sucks. If she mentioned one more time how the Philly fans were unenthusiastic, then she doesn’t understand her fan base and our week. Most of us could have gone on a 4 day vacation and eaten the cost of her ticket, as some people obviously did. All of us have Pope fatigue.

Vintage Madonna. She sang one of two of my favorite songs:
Love Don’t Live Here Anymore and Deeper and Deeper. My party songs of the 80s. The first was for my pity party, the 2nd for my getting turnt up party. She also did amazing reworks of True Blue, Lucky Star, Like A Virgin, Vogue and Material Girl. Better than on any other tour. Now for the not so hot.

Madonna sex on the last supper alter, it’s controversial like you like it, but why do you have to sing “Jesus Loves My Pussy Best!” I feel like I need to be immersed in Holy Water after hearing this song a 2nd time. I never downloaded it after hearing it the first time. Why can’t you just rely on your talent and other nice songs like True Blue, Cherish or even Like A Pray. It’s sad you think it’s ok to sing those words considering you take your religion so seriously. Glad your proud of your excommunication from the Church. We don;t need the Church to validate us as good people, but common decency goes a long way.

Madonna surprisingly sings La Vie en Rose at her concert. Kinda redundant since that’s the song Lady Gaga has been singing on her last tour this past summer, where she dedicates it to her parents and sister.

I found a video on Youtube comparing the two. Why Madonna would sing this song is baffling. She is obviously obsessed with Lady Gaga. It doesn’t make me love her less, it just is disappointing. I know a million other singers have sung this tune, Grace Jones being the best besides Edith Piaf, it’s just right after Lady Gaga popularized it. That’s a shot across the bow.

The seats were fabulous. The problem with the Rebel Heart concert was she used too many elements and themes from the Like A Prayer tour. It’s been done Madonna, the beds, the masturbation, the sex with religious objects, you are better than this. Love your biggest fan, no really I am but we’re all flawed. And that Jesus comment, I feel she used that because all the rappers have the market on offensive words. Madonna needed to one up them. She’s an Icon, this just soils her.

As for the Pope, he followed her to NYC and now he’ll be in Philly this weekend. He’s obsessed with her. She did say he’s the nicest Pope yet.

On a lighter note, sorry my pixs aren’t pristine.  I must read my new phone’s instructions for better photos. Mike has and his photos are amazing. Happy Pope Weekend.

Mark Wahlberg in Philly: Rumors: Wahlburgers Found a Home; Marky Mark Walks the Red Carpet at World Meeting of Families Film Festival. Confirmed: He Still Works Out

I’ve been told that Wahlburgers, the burger chain owned by Chef Paul Wahlberg in partnership with celebrity brothers Mark and Donnie has found a home in Philly, but not in the Rittenhouse Square area like it had been written last year, but in the simmering Northern Liberties The Piazza. (location of my advertiser Sculpt Fitness Studio – Free Parking)

The new location, was the now closed, but very popular Darlings, which shuttered it’s doors earlier this year in March.
This is the interior of Darlings
and the interior of  a typical Wahlburgers.
Mark Wahlberg is in town this week to prepare for Saturday’s  Festival of Families, held on Saturday, September 26, 2015,
which is in conjunction of the World Meeting of Families which kicked off in Philadelphia yesterday. Check out my photos in Philly Mag’s A&E section.
The Art Museum last night.

Last night I got a tip that actor Mark Wahlberg was seen driving up Walnut Street in a White Jeep near 18th; was he trying out the Pope Mobile, as it’s rumored the Pope’s mode of vehicle for the parade is a white jeep. I was wondering why he was in town so early for a Saturday event. I hear today he went to check out the property for Wahlburgers. The move from Rittenhouse Square to Northern Liberties was prompted by the over saturation of burger places near the square, like Good Burgers, Five Burgers, 500F burgers and Shake Shack.

Whalberg is very familiar with Philadelphia, having filmed 3 movies in the area, Invincible , The Happening, and 10th and Wolf

and he screened his movie Broken City at the Prince Theater
Yes that was working out this morning.
This morning I tweeted there was a Mark Wahlberg sighting at the Sporting Club over at the Bellevue.  Gov Rendell was working out nearby, no word on if either gave fitness tips to each other.
