I just received this press release. Looks like Vea Fitness is have a month long workout challenge as well.

Vea Fitness Teams Up with Snap Kitchen and CORE Hydration for Month-Long Workout Challenge

PHILADELPHIA, PA (April 10, 2017)  — Vea Fitness, the Philadelphia-based fitness-tracking app that rewards users for working out with monetary incentives, announces its month-long workout challenge in partnership with Snap Kitchen, CORE Hydration, and certified personal trainer Joe Pepe, beginning on April 13 and ending on May 13. Vea Fitness app users can complete the “Eat Clean, Train Mean” challenge by using the app to track a workout for at least 30 minutes, twice per week. The challenge can be completed as many times as the user pleases – the more completions, the more entries the user gets into the prize lottery. Prizes include $100 gift cards to Snap Kitchen, a CORE Hydration yoga kit and backpack by Prana, valued at $299, several workout gear packages and free healthy organic drinks from CORE.

Those interested in the challenge can download the workout-tracking app in the App Store or Google Play, open the “Eat Clean, Train Mean” Workout Challenge,” and use either Vea Fitness’ GPS tracking (run, walk, bike or hike) or Gym Check-In feature to work out for at least 30 minutes. Each time the challenge is completed, the user’s name is entered into a lottery, where Vea Fitness will randomly select 3 grand prize winners, and several other small prize winners.

“We’re taking the ‘summer bodies are built in the winter’ adage to a whole new level with the ‘Eat Clean, Train Mean’ challenge,” said Jonathan Maxim, Founder and CEO of Vea Fitness. “Studies show that the best way to motivate someone to workout is through proper incentives – rewards and social accountability. With this gym-focused challenge, we’re motivating users to push themselves a step further and truly adopt a lasting healthy lifestyle.”

While those participating in the challenge simply have to workout for 30 minutes and track their time using the app, optional 30-minute fitness plans with quick and simple gym workouts, recommended by Philadelphia-based personal trainer Joe Pepe, are available in the app as a guide throughout the challenge.

Carol Burnett surprises Seniors With A Visit, Barry Manilow Spotted, Body Shop Reopens

Carol Burnett surprises Seniors With A Visit, Barry Manilow Spotted, Congrats to Philly Ad Club’s Movers and Shakers

Oh I so regret not going to see Carol Burnett who appeared Tuesday night at the Academy of Music, I have a client shoot but still could have swung by. Definitely in the past few years the Kimmel Center has been getting the most amazing talent, doing the most extraordinary  things like just talking to the audience as Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper did last year, and now Carol Burnett just talking and answering questions. It’s great, very engaging, and personable.  I don’t have to tell you but Carol Burnett is a living legend with a heart of gold which was solidified to the residents at the Daylesford Crossing (I covered the opening a few years back)

How did this happen you might wonder, well the gals heard Carol would be in town and made a video for her inviting her to stop by, and she did. The first part of the video are memories of Carol, the last 2 minutes is a lovely song from the residents. Someone was able to get Carol’s people to see it and here are the pixs from her visit.

Carol
She taught the residents how to do the “Tarzan Yell”

CarolShe chatted with each and everyone, told stories about her life and show.

Daylesford Crossing’s founder Kelly Andress often says that she builds communities “that Carol Burnett would choose to live in.”   For Andress, Burnett is symbolic of a generation whose ‘coming of age’ was during a time of progress and empowerment, and who are now entering their senior years with vitality and purpose – not willing to ‘settle’ or compromise their lifestyles.

Carol
Then the next night, Tuesday, at the Academy of Music she put on one hell of a show.
For more on Carol’s visit to Daylesford Crossings check out Savvy Mainline which was on the scene

Carol
Carol Burnett headed back to the Rittenhouse Hotel, where Barry Manilow was also staying (here with Team Derek) He was in town as he had
an appearance at QVC earlier in the night. Hope they got to catch up.
4-12-2017 1-44-55 PM (Custom)
Head over to the Shops of Liberty Place for the Grand Re-Opening of the Body Shop, it’s gone over a full body makeover.Carol
Congrats to Ukee Washington

Carol

and Nicole Michalik for being honored at the Philly Ad Club’s Movers and Shakers Luncheon

Carol
Not much of a moving and a shaking Avoid the Parkway at all costs; Between the NFL Draft set up (which is still 14 days away), and the ongoing construction on the Parkway near 20th Street, it’s a headache. Or definitely plan extra travel time of 30 to 45 minutes

Carol
It’s a sure sign of Spring when the water is turned on at Swann Fountain; this week temperatures were in the 80s and swimming commenced as a Philadelphia tradition continues.  See you tomorrow for another great party I covered, and a wrap up of the week.
Then on Sunday, Easter Sunday for a special Philly Gossip, all new babies, engagements and weddings.
Have a great a day!!

Boardroom Spirits Launches C, Carrot Spirit at Aldine Restaurant

Boardroom Spirits Launches C, Carrot Spirit at Aldine Restaurant

Just in time for the Easter Bunny

Boardroom Spirits and Aldine Restaurant celebrated the launch of C, a new to ‘market’  carrot spirit, appropriately on the first day of spring. C, distilled entirely from raw carrots,  is the second expression in Boardroom Spirits’ Periodic Table of Spirits, following ‘B’, a  beet distilled spirit.

Boardroom

C ($29.99) is sold at the Lansdale, PA Distillery (575 W. 3rd St., Lansdale) and is  available at Boardroom Spirits’ day cart at the Reading Terminal Market on Thursdays  and Sundays. Besides Aldine, other top Philadelphia restaurants and bars like Martha  and Harvest will also include the carrot spirit on their cocktail menus. C will roll out  nationally at the end of this month for purchase on Ezra’s.

Guests at the spring fete enjoyed a variety of cocktails and bites all created from – you  guessed it – carrots. Distillery owners Marat Mamedov, Zsuzsa Palotas, and Vladimir  Mamedov were on hand to discuss the unique qualities of the new product and its  potential uses both behind the bar and in the kitchen. The friendly Lansdale-based  distillers invited everyone to learn more about C and their other spirits (award winning  vodka, rum, gin, and more) at their family-owned craft distillery.

If the Easter Bunny were a bartender, these are the drinks he would serve…

C-Sour (can be found at Aldine Restaurant in Philadelphia) (drink with umbrella)

1oz Boardroom Spirits C, 100% carrot spirit

1oz vodka

1oz ginger simple syrup*

1.25 oz lemon juice

egg white

HD1_9769 (Custom)
Aldine’s bar manager Zeq Rudy served up creative C spirit  cocktails like the Raspberry Thyme Gimlet and C-Sour ($11 at Aldine).

Method:

  • Combine C, ginger, simple syrup, lemon juice and egg white in a cocktail shaker
  • Fill shaker with ice and shake vigorously
  • Strain into an ice-filled old-fashioned glass
  • Garnish with sugar

*For simple syrup – heat equal parts water and sugar until sugar dissolves. Add grated fresh ginger to taste. Cool and store in refrigerator for one week.

AC Moore Opens, Eagles Wed, Bart Blatstein House and NFL Draft Stage So Far

Good Sunday to you. This week is exciting, no only because AC Moore is opening on Tuesday with lots of good sales already, but it’s going to be summer with temperatures in the 70s and even 80 – woohoo!! Here’s a bit of Philly Gossip for you…

4-5-2017 2-06-03 AM (Custom)

Congrats to Philadelphia Eagles QB Zach Ertz and his new bride Julie Johnston (American soccer player and FIFA Women’s World Cup champion)

4-5-2017 2-35-03 AM (Custom)
Next up for a Philadelphia Eagles wedding is Jordan Hicks and his fiance Ivana Karyhn.
Then it’s Laura Buscher and Connor Barwin nuptials on NFL Draft Weekend.
Current football players don’t have a lot to do with the draft, I’ve been told, but as for some of the Eagles players I know that
former Eagles player Todd Herremans, current roster Brent Celek,  Malcolmn Jenkins , Rodney McLeod, Jr., and the Eagles Franchise are all having gigs around town.

4-5-2017 11-16-58 PM (Custom)

Earlier this week I wrote about the popped up out of no where Seventh Heaven Fresh Rolled Ice Cream, I said it looked close to
opening, and I was right it opened on Friday at Noon. I ran by on the frigid day and there wasn’t a line. That may not be the case this week with temps finally soaring. Seventh replaced ToBox Shoe Store, and did a great job building it out.

4-5-2017 11-17-50 PM (Custom)
It looks like Crisp Kitchen is nearly ready to open at 19th and Market. I checked out their menu from their Temple University eatery and it looks delicious with stir fry, salads and yogurt and teas.
I am sad it replaced my favor smoothie place Amazon Juice, which also had salads and sandwiches; and they also took over the former location of the very popular Oh So Good salad bar. Remember them. They were always getting high marks from locals.

4-6-2017 2-20-51 AM (Custom)

And then there’s Smart Street Healthy Kitchen & Juice Bar, opening at 38 S. 19th St. formerly Kaufman’s Deli and a branch of Famous 4th Street Deli, which you know served GIGANTIC sandwiches, with equally large prices. The ghost of eating passed with Crisp and Smart Street.

Smart Street Healthy Kitchen & Juice Bar – a rebranding ofJuice Healthy Kitchen in Midtown Manhattan – is coming to 38 S. 19th St.  Joey Taormina promises healthful food – wraps/panini, salads, and entrees with all of the food made in-house and most items grilled or baked. He said Smart Street will source produce and proteins from local farms in season and will seek quality all-natural, GMO-free, and organic items when possible. The menu looks delicious. EatSmartStreet

4-6-2017 2-32-27 PM (Custom)

Speaking of cold, Alex Holley, Mina Say What and I had a great time at the Phillies opening on Friday. Check out Metro Philly .com on Monday for photos
of the fun, and the fashion. Those Phillies fans are no slouches in the fashion department.

4-5-2017 9-35-57 AM (Custom)
Congrats to former CBS3’s Syma Zaremba and Andy Zaremba on the birth of their son Roman. Syma is now reporting the news in Detroit.

4-5-2017 11-20-45 PM (Custom)
The stage for the NFL Draft 2017 is coming along, and Billy Penn will not be getting cleaned in April. The date has been pushed back to May. Yeah for photographs of City Hall seen all over the world.

4-5-2017 11-18-13 PM (Custom)
It looks like Bart Blatstein’s dream house is nearly complete. It looks great and really blends in with the neighborhood.

The Launch of the Ultimate Philadelphia Social Calendar

The Philadelphia Social Calendar

As Philly’s main chronicler of social events in Philadelphia, I can tell you that there are a lot of events and a lot of conflicts where similar events are held on the same day . All the way back in 2008 when I bought the URL’s Philadelphia Social Calendar and Philly Social Calendar dreaming one day that I could create a calendar of social events to help charities as well as business’ get the word out, and as a service to people who wanted to attend events. Definitely one of the most asked questions I am asked is “I wish I knew of that event beforehand, I would have gone.” Over the years Social Media has helped me get the word out, and there are really good sources that do as well, but I still get ask the question after I post photos about an event.  Thanks to Lynsie Solomon for coming to me and telling me we can make this happen as well as the team at EFS Networks Inc  that built the website, the dream I had nearly a decade ago is now coming true. (It’s hard to believe but PhillyChitChat is 10 years old in July)

4-7-2017 11-35-05 AM

Philadelphia Social Calendar is Philadelphia’s one-stop-shop for all of the events and activities that make our city that much more vibrant.  We priced it reasonably as we really want this to be a service to the City as well. Both Lynsie and I are passionate about events, especially charities, and hope a calendar like this will make it easier for organizations when planning those events to make the most positive impact in the community for a successful outcome. I remember one year when the Morris Animal Refuge and the Pennsylvania SPCA picked the same date for their galas. People were upset, it was convenient for me as one was at the Marriott and the other at the Loews, but others had to choose. Or this past year when Komen Philadelphia had their Pink Tie the same night as Philly Fights Cancer on opposite sides of town.  Events can’t always be scheduled for everyone’s convenience but if we can help in anyway to alleviate conflicts, we hope this calendar will.

Please visit us at PhiladelphiaSocialCalendar.com to post your event (free to post, $35 a year if you want a live link connecting readers to your website) and advertise with us $150 – $200 – we offer great services at a reasonable price that will ensure maximum viewership and return on investment for you and your organization.

Sorry Sweet Charlie, Seventh Heaven May Open Before You In Rittenhouse

Move Over Sweet Charlie, Seventh Heaven May Open Before You In Rittenhouse
Sweet Charlie’s, the Thai ice cream shop, is schedule to open this month at 1921 Walnut St., but wait a minute they have some competition nearby

Seventh

This stretch of 19th Street has always looked down and out to me. It’s near 19th and Market, where I get off the bus and head to the square. It’s across the street where Enterprise Rent a Car is and I rent a lot of cars. In fact I just rented one Friday night and I didn’t notice something was amiss til last night when I was heading to a job at the Rittenhouse Hotel – The Ballroom Reveal (Look for those photos at Philly Style and Metro Philly later today).I always thought the ToBox sign was odd, and stood out.

Seventh

Ummm well I noticed yesterday that ToBox is no longer there, I had to do a double take, and then I noticed the entire facade had been changed and a new store was called “Seventh Heaven Fresh Rolled Ice Cream” was now in it’s place. I did a little sleuthing and couldn’t find the owners or another ice cream place by the same name in the country; In fact the domain to the new business had just been registered March 19, 2017

Seventh
I do love the new white paint which definitely brightens the block, but how’d they get away with chopping off the dry cleaner sign, unless Ye Old Dry Cleaner owners are the one’s who are opening Seventh Heaven?

Seventh
I stopped in my tracks and crossed the street to get a closer look. I was really surprised at how much work had been done in 2 weeks at the most. I just rented a car on Friday, and granted it was raining but I think I would have noticed if the building across from the garage had been painted white, and had a new sign

Seventh

When I was reviewing my photos at home, I noticed there were people busy getting the place ready to open, which I bet is very soon. Those chair ladders make my heart beat fast. I bet this place is ready in a week, perhaps before Sweet Charlie’s. They’re the same price too, and Seventh is open a little later as well.Seventh

BTW They’re hiring. $8.50hr, plus Tips

I hear they’re opening this Friday 4/7/17

Seventh

As for Mr To, I know he’s been waiting to move into a new spot on Chestnut Street next to Boyd’s (see above), but when I saw him at the Zarwin Baum March Madness Party March 16, 2017 the new place wasn’t ready yet he told me. (I checked the new spot yesterday and there are work permits in the window dated March 27, 2017)

Seventh

Then I noticed at ToBox has popped up at 117 S 19th St (with this note on it’s FB page: Temporarily located inside the Topper’s Spa/Salon in Rittenhouse Square)
And I was still able to make it to my 530PM job at The Rittenhouse Hotel.
Check back tomorrow for more party pictures, and on Sunday and next Thursday for more Philly Gossip.

It’s A Wrap as the Untouchables Shut Down the Untouchable Wrap Party Last Night

It’s A Wrap as the Untouchables Shut Down the Untouchable Wrap Party Last Night

And I have some tidbits I couldn’t tell you before:

The movie is based on a hugely popular French movie – Intouchables, now known as The Intouchables, Interesting title, but here in the states we
already had a huge hit called The Untouchables. I’m sure this was a dilemana, but not at first as the movie was first titled

Untoucables, but somewhere along the line they removed the “s” and now it’s called Untouchable.
The story line is true to the original sources tell me

After he becomes a quadriplegic from a paragliding accident, an aristocrat hires a young man from the projects to be his caregiver.

Untouchable

Production began in Philadelphia on February 1 for the 2018 American remake of the 2011 French film The Intouchables starring François Cluzet and Omar Sy, which amassed $426.6M at the global box office. Tuesday April 4th was the 43th day of 43 days filming the Bryan Cranston/Kevin Hart/Nicole Kidman movie Untouchable in the Philadelphia area.  I was there the first day of filming, as well as the first week (Philly.com), and it was a good time. What a great cast and crew, everyone was so wonderful on the set and I had no problems getting the shots I needed.

Untouchable

Last night I was at the Untouchable wrap party, which was held at the Stotsberry Mansion, near Rittenhouse Square at 19th and Walnut. Guests included cast and crew, and by cast everyone who had a speaking part I was told. Sorry extras. I got to chat with a lot of the behind the scenes folks who told me the great camaraderie on the set, as well as the ease of set up in the various locations which included filming scenes on Broad Street that first week, with little to no traffic interruption. For me it was definitely one of the best shoots, seeing the souped up Ferrari driving down the majestic blvd, it was a tight shot so nearly any spot I stood on on Broad Street kept me out of the directors line of sight, which certainly makes both our jobs easier.

HD1_2251 (Custom)Then we all headed over to “The Center For Architecture” on Arch Street. I had no idea they were filming the movie there, but it was perfect as one of my clients, Food Shelter, is the PR for the business. The photo was published everywhere, and nationally. It’s a great place to visit as well, they have a fun gift/book store, which long ago was at the corner of 17th and Sansom, now the Palomar Hotel, which by the way many crew members stayed as well as the Sofitel.

HD1_2252 (Custom)
Oh and since we’re on that subject and they’re all checked out, Director Neil Berger stayed at Roost Rittenhouse. Kevin Hart  stayed at the AKA University City. I believe Bryan Cranston and Nicole Kidman stayed at The Rittenhouse Hotel. Her assistants ate at Barclay Prime one night and everyone expected her to show but she didn’t, and same goes for Scarpetta in the Rittenhouse Hotel; Nicole cancelled at the last minute.

If you thought you saw Malia Obama in Philly last month, you did. She is interning for The Weinstein Company which is producing the Untouchable movie. She spent most of her time at the Sun Center Studios in Aston, PA.
Guests told me they had a great time at the party, which served Philly Fare – soft pretzels, Rita’s Water Ice, Cheese Steaks and Federal Donuts.

Jason Loftus and Diane Heery of Loftus-Heery Casting. They cast Untouchable, as well as most movies that shoot in Philly.
They are not my “source”, as I always tell them I won’t ask them or Sharon Pinkenson, Executive Director of the Greater Philadelphia Film Office,  about movies or rumors as I know they sign non-disclosures, as
well as if they told me not to write about something and hold it I might lose it to another media outlet; I just can’t take that chance, because if I’m hearing about it on the street, then others are probably hearing it as well. BTW Sharon Pinkenson was spotted at the party as well.
I rely on the readers of PhillyChitChat who are always very generous on tip giving, and I go out and get the stories and photos for
them.
Thanks to the dozen or so who helped me with Untouchable. I think we did a great job bringing the stories to our friends.
And hopefully showcasing what a great place Philly is to film.

Jeffrey Rotwitt, president and CEO of Sun Center Studios and wife Dianne Rotwitt;
Rotwitt looks forward to more films coming to Philly, but in the meantime I hear he’s going forward with plans to
build a hotel, and a theme part on the vast acreage he has in Aston, Pa where Sun Center Studios is located.

I’ve been photographing celebrities for over a decade now, and I really check my celebrity fan guy status; BUT every time I photographed Bryan Cranston my heart skipped a beat. I loved Breaking Bad and can’t believe I got to meet, chat with and photograph Walter White.

Untouchable

Celebrities really don’t like it when photographers do #selfies with them, or get autographs. They don’t like paparazzi jumping
out of bushes either, but well I gotta do my job and if I have to jump out of a bush, or hide in a tree I’d do it. BTW cast members told me that over the
weekend Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston filmed a paragliding scene near Blue Mountain, PA. A photographer got a set of photos, and the cast told me
the guy was hiding in trees nearby. After I heard about the story, I search for the photos and found them Here are a few of his shots and the story on Daily Mail.

Director Neil Burger (who also shot Limitless with another Philadelphia son – Bradley Cooper here) he said Philly is the best City to film in, the people are great, the neighborhoods are lively but respectful, and the locations are diverse and we have a great movie studio Sun Center Studios
He can’t wait to come back again to film.

*****************

When I arrived last night at 10PM, as I was having dinner with friends, unfortunately Kevin Hart had left. He was in and out in ten minutes my friends told me, dressed in his tradmark Nike sandals, with black socks and a sweatsuit; he told them he couldn’t wait to get back to his family, dogs as well as get a haircut and shave as his character has a beard in the movie.
He said he’ll be back soon to sign copies of his new book, he’s also being honored by the Philadelphia Arts & Biz Council May 23, 2017 and JUly 6th is Kevin Hart Day in Philly, it’s his birthday

Police called to Untouchable Party at Stotsberry (Custom)

As I was leaving the police pulled up and told security that the party was too loud, and to shut it down as they were nearing the midnight curfew.
It really was wrap day as the Untouchables Shut Down the Untouchable cast party last night!!
