Philadelphia Naked Bike Ride 2016 Fashion, Fun & OMG’s

Philadelphia Naked Bike Ride 2016 Fashion, Fun & OMG’s

Photos from the 2016 Philly Naked Bike Ride.  The ride is meant to highlight body positivity and bring awareness towards fuel consumption. It was held Saturday, September 10 throughout downtown Philadelphia starting near the Art Museum, swinging by City Hall, down Chestnut Street passed Independence Hall, up Market Street to JFK into West Philly, down Chestnut Street to 19th, around Rittenhouse Square, down Locust to South Street and several after parties. I photographed them at 4 locations and at each one their was a healthy crowd there to cheer them on. Did I mention they had a police escort, yes they did. People always ask me did anyone get arrested, no.

naked

Ultimately, one of the goals of the Philly Naked Bike Ride is to desexualize nudity and to encourage everyone to embrace nudity as a normal, enjoyable way of life. Following this policy will help further this goal and teach all of us how to be better people in general. naked

I purposely didn’t publish and very overtly naked folks. You might ask how did I determine that…

PhillyGossip: Bethenny Frankel Appearance, Erin Elmore, Francesca Ruscio and more ChitChat

Good Friday morning. So much news, chitchat and new happening in Center City you’ll find it here on PhillyChitChat every Monday and Friday.

Frankel

I’m glad summer isn’t over yet, but I realized after last weeks 80s, I really like my summer at that temperature. The Social Season started last night. I hit two events. Those columns will be popping up in Philly Mag and Philly Biz Journal, hopefully. I say that as each outlets have editors that approve columns based on a fit and timing, do they have enough time to publish it. Some of the best events happen on Thursday, but it’s also serious crunch time. If a column doesn’t get published on a Friday, Monday may be too late. In this day and age of the internet, news happens every minute. OK on with today’s news.

9-9-2016-9-20-55-am-custom

King of Prussia Mall is hosting a very special private shopping event September 25th in celebration of the opening of our expansion and to benefit Abramson Cancer Center.
Bethenny Frankel will be our special guest, demonstrating Skinnygirl beverage pairings with signature items from our new restaurants. The event is from 6:00-9:00 PM in the new connector and will feature a DJ, fashion vignettes, sampling, register-to-win promos, beauty bars and much, much more. All of our new stores will be open and hosting fun in-store events and promotions. Tickets are $50. We invite you to join us and thank you in advance for anything you can do to share this and help us promote the event with your friends, associates and family.bethenny-custom

Bethenny returned to the RHONY  last season, and again emerged as the most popular, or at least the most in the public’s eye.  That’s not plastic surgery that changed her looks, it’s botox.

Another brunette reality star, Erin Elmore, who was fired by Donald Trump on the Apprentice nearly a decade ago, went to work for the RNC as their deputy secretary earlier this summer, and is now one of the campaign’s surrogate media spokespeople appearing on news outlets proclaiming why he would make a great president.

Congrats to Francesca Ruscio, who has landed at NBC10 as the back up traffic reporter. Her debut was yesterday in the 9 O’Clock hour. The former Miss Philadelphia 2013, most recently was doing weather at MyPHL17.

RIP: Dr. Joy Browne – Our Friend

Acclaimed syndicated radio host and clinical psychologist Dr. Joy Browne – named by Talkers Magazine as one of the “25 greatest radio talk show hosts of all time” has died, and Mike and I are mourning. Dr. Joy gave us the tools that were instrumental in helping sustain our relationship in the early years, as well as today. She also helped us in ordinary day to day living when we were stuck on a problem whether it was work, or family issues. We started listening to her in 1995, and it continued until her untimely death August 27, at age 71. Her sister said she was chatting with Dr. Joy about movies, munches and life. Her sister stopped talking, and the phone went dead.  Nearly 10 years ago Mike and I ran into Dr Joy in Times Square. I was still living there, working on a lawsuit which was heading for trial. Mike was up for a weekend visit.

Browne

I had a blog back then too, it was the beginning of my “celebrity photographing” career as well. I chronicled my life as a paparazzi and my blog was called Confessions of a Paparazzi.

This is what I wrote on 11/28/06

Dr Joy Browne gives good Advice

She’s awesome, she’s helpful, she’s hip, but most importantly she’s not Dr Laura or even Dr Laura light. She can help you if you have a question or need guidance in any life situation by giving good common sense advice. Since arriving in NYC in Aug 2005, I have searched the streets, and events painlessly for a glimpse of the good Dr. never reaching my goal of meeting her. Then a few weeks back, Mike and I were on our way to see “Grey Gardens”. As we rushed through the streets of Times Square, lo and behold there was our girl rushing in the other direction to attend the theater too I assume. I instinctively yelled out. Dr Joy Browne, and she turned. I ran up and profusely thanked her for making our relationship much easier, especially her tips on “setting fines for leaving cabinets and drawers opened, and dishes in the sink” (After paying diligently for months, I was cured of leaving dishes in the sink, but Mike now owes me millions of dollars). I told her that Mike calls her every once in awhile, he chimed in that he just called her last week about a work situation. She smiled and thanked us, and as she was about to rush to her show, I said “Could we have a picture”, at which point I spun her and my life-partner, Mike around and said “the background is nicer this way.” http://www.drjoy.com/index.htm

She left us a comment that I had forgotten about til now:

you guys are so cute; had i known the pix would be posted, i might have slapped on some gloss and finger combed my hair…thanks for the kind words, best to y’all and loading the dishwasher occasionally, that’s not a Freudian comment, thank you very much, may actually cause some nice bedroom action. teehee.

Smoochies, dr. joy browne

GCN to Continue Providing Affiliates with Dr. Joy Browne Show Until Replacement is Set – Special Series of Tribute Shows Begins this Friday (9/9).   Because of the “timeless” nature of most of her shows, Genesis Communications Network (GCN) has announced that it will continue providing the large roster of the late Dr. Joy Browne’s affiliates with re-runs and “best of” programs from the iconic talk show host’s extensive archives for the next two weeks, punctuated by a series of three live “tribute” shows.  The tribute shows will begcn logo hosted and organized by her close friend, TALKERS founder Michael Harrison. The Dr. Joy Browne program airs weekdays between 12:00 noon and 3:00 pm ET.  The special tribute shows will run live on Friday, September 9 through Tuesday, September 13 presenting a combination of radio industry guests and listener calls discussing the life, career and work of the legendary broadcaster.  Between Wednesday, September 14 and Friday, September 16, GCN will provide the affiliates with more archival Dr. Joy Browne content.  After that, beginning Monday, September 19, the time slot will indefinitely be hosted live by Michael Harrison until a permanent replacement is named.  Upon agreeing to keep the seat warm, Harrison states, “It is an honor to serve as interim host of Joy’s program.  I deeply believe in her mission and the importance of keeping generalist, non-specifically political talk programming alive within the context of ‘news/talk’ during the daytime hours.  I will do my best to provide her wonderful affiliates and audience with a meaningful listening experience within that time-honored radio tradition.”  Harrison says he has cleared his schedule during that time slot for at least the rest of 2016 but will step out during that time frame if and when “a permanent replacement is named.”  Simultaneously, GCN will be continuing to offer Dr. Joy Browne’s radio show, podcasts and archives to radio stations and listeners worldwide on a separate channel.

Current Dr Joy Podcasts. I’m so glad they’re going to archive them here, as her advice is timeless.

Scranton, Wilkes -Barre, Allentown and Bethlehem, Oh My

When I told folks I was skipping Made in America this year and instead heading to Scranton, Pa cause it’s a bucket list City for me, they questioned me. I said yes, Scranton, Wilkes -Barre, Allentown and Bethlehem, we read about them all the time, but I’ve never seen them. I’m all about visiting the towns in Pennsylvania. Last Summer I went to Pittsburgh. The year before I went to St. Mary’s in Northwestern PA to see the Elk migrate. Yes we have Elk in Pennsylvania. Who hasn’t gone to Centralia, it’s still smoldering. We have the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania, Hawk Mountain.

I want to go to York, Gettysburg, I want to see the Flight 93 National Memorial (They have a new visitor center that opened last year), I want to see the Fallingwater | Home The list goes on.

Scranton

Mike was a big fan of The Office, so our goal was to find locations they used for exteriors. We were detoured by La Festa Italiana – Scranton, PA, which when I started doing social media about it so many of my readers told me they had been there before. It was surprising, and exciting that others get out of their comfort zone and off the beaches to see Pennsylvania.

What’s an Italian festival without Bocce Ball. I just learned yesterday that Fairmount has a Bocce Ball league and they play where the Iroquios is across from where I live. How fun. hd1_1943-custom hd1_1949-custom hd1_1952-custom

I did notice there were quite a few Trump supporters in this area. The funny thing about this truck, it’s in a No Parking Zone, see the sign to the left.

Mike and I stayed at the Mohegan Sun Pocono: Casino, Resort in PA on Friday and Saturday nights. We booked it on the app Hotel Tonight. We like to book our hotels that way now, we don’t like making a commitment until the last minute if possible. It was a great choice. Very nice hotel, casino and eating choices.

9-8-2016-9-29-33-am-custom

We loved the room. The casino is round, and on the outer circle are great restaurant choices. In the center is a nice bar that over looks the floor. The clientale was friendly, although I was expecting Blake Shelton to pop his head out at any moment. They have a Wolfgang Express in the foodcourt, and the food was delicious. They do have a new buffet, but I wasn’t able to make it over there. They have a very strict check out police at 11AM. I liked it but the casino does smell of smoke, and sadly even though it’s amongst the Pocono’s there’s really no outdoor space with a view of the beautiful surroundings. There is a patio that you can go to order cocktails and listen to music, and at night you can imagine how beautiful the mountains are.

Scranton

Sunday we headed to the Great Allentown Fair. It was great. Very crowded and the people were friendly. Scranton

Mike was thrilled he got to pet goats, and cows. I think I need to take him to the Philly Zoo’s petting zoo.

We decided to stay in Bethlehem. It was a good decision.

Our room at the Bethlehem Hotel. We booked this on Hotel Tonight as well. Our rate was $200. Although not as fancy as the Moheghan Sun, we loved the room more. Very comfy cozy, with it’s period pieces. I love me a chair to read in, as my readers know, and this spot was perfect. hd1_2074-custom

Bethlehem is so adorable too. It’s not larger, but it’s quaint. Perfect for a weekend stay, especially because it’s so beautiful in the surrounding areas as well. hd1_2077-custom hd1_2116-custom

It’s Moving Time For Favs, Pillsbury Bake-Off & People News

It’s back to the grind this week. I haven’t shot any events of late, but people are doing busy. It’s Goodbye to Jay McCarroll and Duke & Winston, Plus other People News. The 2012 Pillsbury Bake-Off winner, Christina (Tina) Verrelli, participates in a play about the Bake-Off at the Bucks County Playhouse.

Moving

This week begins NYFW and one fixture you’ll definitely see is Jay McCarroll, especially now that he’s going to be so close to the action. The Project Runway season 1 winner is moving back to NYC to hone his craft and be closer to the action. I’ll miss the low key fashion designer who was always quick with a smile.

Moving

Another heartache good bye to Seun Olubodun, Duke & Winston clothing line featuring tshirts, socks, bow ties and other fun branded clothing. Just when he was contemplating working for someone elses’ brand and grow it as he grew his clothing line, he decided to move the brand out west. I’ve been watching and photographing the Duke & Winston clothing line for the past 8 years, and saw it blow up locally, but with any small business there’s bumps and curves in the row. We don’t always know how to get to the next levels, partnerships fail, ideas fall on deaf ears, and in the end we have to steer our own ship to achieve our goals. Instead of throwing in the shirt, Seun is headed west to see what sunny California holds. One thing for sure, you can wear a TShirt all year long in LA. Take care Duke & Seun.

Moving

Philly is full of fashion entrepreneurs, including Cameron Washington who has created DreamNationTV.com. Check out the trailer for Dapper – Black Men In Fashion.

Moving

The future is looking bright for talented ball player Luke Gutos.  Moving

When not DJ’ing all over the area, (Don’t ask him to play “Shake It Off”), Jon has been hanging out with his new squeeze Colleen, who just nursing school, as well as his kids.

This year I wasn’t credentialed to shoot the event as there was a huge demand from around the world. I did get offers to shoot it after the initial turn down, but decided to go away instead and Mike was very happy about the vacation.  Budwesier also invited me to be their guest, and bring a guest, but Mike was not up for the 8 – 10 hr day he’d have to endure with me cause I like to be there for most of the time (FOMO – LOL). Even though I had a great vacation, and saw things that were on my summer bucket list, I really missed it, the people, all the fun things to see, the music, but most importantly that it happens right here Philly. See you next year, Bud!! (BTW it’s hell living on the Parkway after MIA completes too, it’s actually worse since everyone is back from the shore. Do yourself a favor, do not drive near the Parkway for another week.)

SUPER AWESOME OF BUDWEISER

To ensure folks get home safely, Budweiser is offering all BMIA festival attendees free Lyft codes.
On your way home thank Budweiser by using the hashtag #GiveADamn – Cause they do!!

And when you leave, please be considerate to the neighborhood and don’t yell and scream, some people might actually be asleep. Also if you want pizza, my favorite spot is Luigi’s at 24th and Fairmount and he usually stays open til midnight.

There’s also a few bars on Fairmount Ave, which is North of the Parkway. There’s Bishop’s Collar, 24th and Fairmount, The London Grille at 23rd and Fairmount and Urban Saloon on Fairmount between 22nd and 23rd.

Thanks to the City of Philly, Budweiser and ESM Productions for invites this year, but I graciously declined.

I’m off to see the Allentown Fair and hike the Appalachian trail.
