Happy Hair of The Dog Month, I can’t believe that another year has gone by so quickly and the party that kicks off the winter “social season” is upon us.
I’ve been covering Hair of The Dog for the past 7 years and it’s really evolved into a wild and crazy party, into an even more wild and crazier party. Here are some of my favorite photos from the past 4 years.
Most of the years it’s been held in hotels, but the past two years it’s been at The Crystal Tea Room across the street from City Hall.
Ever since the infamous dress Kate Beaver wore in 2013, the ladies have upped their games in hopes of getting the amazing press she did after this photo I took was published. She was in high demand with appearances on Preston and Steve and Fox 29 Philly to name a few.
Revolution Taco at 2015 Walnut Street
From 12-1pm and 4-6pm Revolution Taco will give away free smoked chicken tacos (one per person) as an introduction to the neighborhood and to
celebrate their first brick and mortar storefront.

Mike Sultan, and his girlfriend Angela Ficco
Alan Krawitz
This is the first
brick and mortar for all three owners, who are known for their popular
food trucks Street Food Philly, Taco Mondo and Say Cheese.
When you walk into the eatery, there’s a collection of peppers from around the world on the right hand side. I can honestly say I never saw such a collection.
I asked a few of the servers which were their favorite taco’s – Sue Krawitz said it was the smoked chicken, which is exactly what you’ll be getting today.
BTW these chips and gauc are delicious. They’re going to have to enter the guacamole contest held by MANNA this year.
Approximately 10 different tacos, burritos
and empanadas at launch, Sultan said, and specials to be added once they
are underway. Trio plans to grow vegetables for use in dishes.
Condiment bar to feature house-made salsas, hot sauces and toppings –
including rotating seasonal selections.
On my way to the Little Lion Media and Friends party last night, I took a stroll through Midtown Village. Lots going on there, but most notably I spotted this new store at 1216 Walnut Street
It’s called Rikumo and it was previously located at 12th and Spring Garden. Rikumo is a finely curated housewares, and home decor from Japan.
Since the place was still in the organizational mode I only took two photos of products while I was inside, after being invited in as the owner spotted me peering through the window.
I did see a lot of sleek designed items for your kitchen, home, and bathroom as well as stationary and gifts. This is a great store for Walnut Street, and people Rittenhouse Square will make a trip below Broad to patronize the shop.
I spoke with store manager Jino Lee, who tells me he’s excited about moving the store to Center City, it’ll be much more convenient for many of his clients. In addition to selling great products that people will enjoy, he plans to host events at the new location which would include lectures, demonstrations, and workshops. He looks forward to being a part of the Center City community. Rikumo plans to open softly on Friday, with a grand opening event later in the month.

On a sad note, I noticed Potito’s Bakery has closed it’s doors at 1315 Walnut St. They had the most delicious pastries, but I think the lunch part didn’t take off as well as they hoped.

Congratulations to Mayor Jim Kenney. I’ve been photographing the Mayor Kenney for the past 6 years. Even with the familiarity of our relationship, it feels different as he ascends into this prestigious, powerful position. As a society photographer, reporter, pop culture curator, it’s fun to see him go from a shy, private councilman born and raised in South Philadelphia, to when he finally got comfortable with me photographing him at events about 5 years ago (you’re notable people want to know what you’re doing I would say, [thanks to the Tamburino’s for introducing me to him at Sabrina’s wedding]) to his decision to run for mayor, to his transformation of a serious contender, (anyone can see he has a more commanding appearance these days) to the day he was sworn into the office. I remember the day after he won the primary, he came up to me as I was waiting for a bus. He said you wanna take of selfie, I would have never asked him, and I jumped at the chance. I may have been a little teary eyed, which was a surprise, but it’s really because I’m so happy for him, and for Philadelphia. Most mayors I’m sure have been brought up in Philly, but I really feel this Mayor connects with all the people, and his administration is going to pull our City together and make it even better.
It killed me not to go to the swearing in ceremony, but it was a Monday morning and Monday’s are deadline day. I got a couple columns out and jumped on a bus at 11:30PM, good thing too as the ceremony ended early and the traditional walk up Broad Street was underway. I was trying to figure out the best place to stand, as I slowly moved my way down the street, which was conveniently closed for his walk down the middle of the street.

First, sad face, another iconic club I partied at The Coastline is Closed. Philly.com reported that The Coastline would close in 2016, and it did this past weekend. I grew up in Cherry Hill, and it was a rite of passage that the Coastline would be the club the locals hit up when they turned of age, some of us a little bit before that too.

Happy New Year. I’m starting off the new year as I began, behind. I’ve gotten a great response for PhillyGossip, so going foward I will run one on Monday’s and Thursdays.
Last night at Hamilton Hall on the campus of the University of the Arts, Mayor Nutter hosted an End of the Term Party for his administration from both terms. The cocktail dressed guests enjoyed a lite buffet and spirits, as the guests caught up and shared news on who was staying on, and who landed where.
Rich Negrin, former Managing Director, has landed at a top notch Philly Law Firm as he will become a partner at Obermeyer. His new office will be right across from City Hall.
The time @Michael_Nutter dropped Rapper’s Delight and the mic with the Sugar Hill Gang at his going away party
Nicki Minaj is the #1 celebrity moment of Philadelphia. She’s giving me paparazzi life as we close the book on 2015, which left us a little celebrity starved except for that time Bill Murray attended his son’s wedding, a story I broke. Nicki fell
in love with a home town rapper Meek Mill. He tweeted 5 years ago that his goal
was to date Nicki and have knock her up, I think he’s well on the way as in less than a year they are engaged.
To kick off 2015 Meek Mill instagramed this photo from the 1925 Lounge last January of one of their first dates after attending a Wale concert at TLA.
She popped up
during his set at Made In America, then again when he did WDAS
Powerhouse, and now she’s standing by him during his court hearings, and
Philadelphia confinement. Meek’s not allowed to leave the Philly area until after his February 3 hearing, at which time he might be sentenced for violating his probation. She’s been staying at a Center City hotel. She’s been spotted at living her life at lots of spots.
Twice they’ve gone bowling together at
South Bowl in South Philly. Plus they were spotted eating at Capital Grille as I reported last week. I heard she had asked all the servers their names, and she addressed them by them during the course of the 2 hour steak, potatoes and cheesecake dinner.
She was also spotted shopping at Nieman
Marcus KOP on Christmas eve eve and instagramed several pics of her new buys, including an interesting interaction with a couple of guys.
Tuesday I got a tip at 11PM that they went to a family members child’s birthday party at
Blue Cross Ice Skating Rink.
![]() |
| The party she attended at the Blue Cross River Rink was in the kids tent where they have games like air hockey, pinball and basketball throw |
My tipster indicated he thought they’d be leaving soon so I hung by her car.
Then I heard fans screaming her name so I ran over to the Chestnut Street bridge area to try and get a shot. This is the shot she took when she was rink side.
This group and I think that’s Nicki in the blue jeans, started to walk out the door to leave, but fans had gathered and they went back in and out the side door,
unfortunately I hadn’t started my New Year’s diet and couldn’t hustle over to the side quick enough to get a photo like these fans did. They were screaming I Love You Nicki!!
I did follow her car for a little bit, and she ended up sending her driver into “Big Ass Slices” in Old City for a few slices to take back to her and Meek’s hotel. Nicki is scheduled to perform in Las
Vegas tonight and left her hotel yesterday to fly there, but Meek has to stay behind and do community service today.
As Nicki was leaving on the jet plane, Wed afternoon, her boo Meek Mill and Quincy Harris, Fox29 were on hand as Mayor Nutter honored members of the Northwest Raiders football team for winning the Pop Warner National Super Bowl Championship for the “Midget” Division.

ICarly’s Jennette Mccurdy was Spotted on Walnut St. She posed with a few fans and then headed into Urban Outfitters.
