PHILADELPHIA STYLE AUGUST ISSUE PARTY AT 10 ARTS re: Terrence Howard in the house, but not on Philly Chit Chat today

The Ritz-Carlton’s “The Grill” restaurant was cleared out so Philadelphia Style could fete their July/August cover boy Terrence Howard in style with a Philly VIP party, good food by Philly homegirl Jennifer Carroll of 10 Arts. (you know how this rolls, if there’s a chance of a publication of the celebrity I have shot I can’t scoop my self, so this entry is all about our Philly Celebrities and the fantastic party thrown by Philadelphia Style Magazine, can I call it Philly for short, I like that name [I could go by Hugh, but you know I like HughE better too.]) It was a packed house and why not, Philly Style does it up right. A few weeks back I wrote that the exclusive party would be limited to 200 invitees, but I think there could have been a crasher or two but not many more than that. Here are our hosts for the evening: Publisher John Colabelli, BJ Spencer, Chef Eric Ripert, Craig Spencer and Ritz-Carlton GM Mike Walsh (Missing Niche Media owner, Jason Binn) Mark S Cherry and film maker, Edward J. Eberwine, III (He just finished working on “Dare” with Emmy Rossum and Alan Cummings, which was filmed right here in Phillywood. I remember trying to get a contact on that site to shoot the set and a scene, but to now avail. Hopefully I can get on the next film set, which he says begins in late August. He has a degree in Cinematography and has produced and directed a few films. “The process of filmmaking, from story telling to technical , is an amazing thing and I hope to do it for a long time to come.” Now here’s another fellow in the film business, Richard Wolf, TLA Entertainment (Acquisitions & Marketing Director), and Susan Helfrich. Susan appeared in the premiere issue of Philly Style Magazine alongside
Sharon Pinkenson, GPFPO and Joseph Weiss (we skipped the usually fashion shot as Sharon had just had “minor” foot surgery she told me; and although she sported the open toe look with both of her footwear, I didn’t think she’d appreciate it if I took that fashion shot), but you know she is always styling it for us. I really should have asked what she was wearing, because if you look at her dress it’s very zipper intensive, which is really very unique.
Sister Act: Mia and Nina Tinari. You will recall an early June posting about Kimberly Boutique’s 3rd Anniversary fête when Nina picked up this beautiful Tibi dress. Mia bought her outfit there too!Ruben Harley and Greg Bell with a few T-Shirts from their product linePaige Wolf http://www.paigewolf.com/ and Mal Someone’s missing, John Bolaris looks so lonely. When I spoke to him he said she would show up soon and I wouldn’t be disappointed CN8’s Greg Coy, Jaimi Gordon, PR Ritz-Carlton and Mike Walsh, GM Ritz-Carlton
GM Ritz-Carlton and KYW’s Ukee Washington, as tall and as personable in person
We last ran into WOGL’s Jamyra Perry with her friend Melony Roy EP from Hear Philly at the Zoobilee last month, remember I spent more time shooting the polar bears than people. Melony is still doing podcasts re: Hear Philly! is an online radio station that takes you on an audio odyssey of Philadelphia and The Countryside®. Hear Philly showcases the things that make Philly More Fun. It’s devoted to things to do, what to see and where to eat when you’re out and about in the Philadelphia area. http://www.gophila.com/C/Philly_Favorites/380/U/Hear_Philly!/2886.html http://play.it/player/player.html?mix=0&id=2142
R-L Amanda Markowitz, Taneise and Jeff Marshall, Lisa Glass and Michael Smith, Pres. Land Rover Jaguar http://www.lrjagmanline.com/ (hmm I bet they have some really good sales at his dealership right now)

The VIP girls passed my way, and even though it was the eve of my birthday, I decided to pass on the delectibles. Down in front is Kate Dugan with the Godiva chocolate, and behind her with the cocktails is Jennifer Dewitt.

I ran into the Nicole Miller Girls, who we last saw at Philly Style “Hot List Party”. Syndi Son, Jen Derrah and I do believe that Jillian Dunn does look better sans cigar. I know I just dropped the hint that Wednesday was my B-DAY, but it was also the first day of press registration for NYC Fashion Week, which I love to shoot. This will be my fifth time, and I just love it. The shows will be featuring clothes for Spring 2009. I love shooting the Spring Season because its actually warm outside too, unlike Fall 2009 which is put on at Bryant Park in February.
After an hour or so the crowd did thin out a bit, maybe some of them were going to the Closing Night Party of the Philadelphia Gay & Lesbian Film Festival at the Top of the Tower (I will be posting those shots Friday so you can enjoy them through the weekend, it will take that long to soak them all in) Stephy Freedman (sans her wine connoisseur husband Brian ), Kaycee Cashman, Holly Dean, Dana Lombardo and KYW producer Mac.
a gentleman friend, Sabrina Tamburino, BJ Spencer, Arden Group, and Carol Tamburino of Tuner Construction Company. I had a nice chat with BJ who tells me the Ritz-Carlton Residences will be read late October. I hope to get a look inside as I know that it is a dream place to live. Maybe I will get to cover a party or two when it opens, or perhaps future residents Marc and Tania Schade, who we met at the 10 Arts opening in May will invite us over?

Diane Johnson, Tierney & Associates and Jimmy Contreras, Kimberly Boutique
Nicole Cashman stops by with Justin Wineburgh
Political columnist Mary Patel and Red Tettemer Spinster Matthew Vlahos. You have got to check out their website today, their wallpaper changes monthly and this month is a tribute to AMC’s original TV show “Madmen”. (I was there for the photo shoot and will be posting the behind the scene shots next week) http://www.redtettemer.com/ Plus tune in monthly to see what clever idea they might have next.
Monica Malpass. I don’t see her for over a year and now in less than two weeks I see her three times. Welcome back Monica. Looks like she has a Versace top on. She’s always so sweet to catch up on.
10 Arts Chef and Philly hometown girl, Jennifer Carroll. Jennifer tells me that everything is going great, that the response from her hometown was going well, she really enjoyed cooking for the people in the City where she grew up. On to the FOOD: The dishes people seem to like are the sliders made with stripe bass (not crab like I thought. what do I know?) The secret is in the blend, the cut, sun dried tomatoes and I believe her special touch. Also the Flat Iron Filet has been a favorite. 10 Arts gets their meats from Pineland Farms natural meats in NH. Pineland cattle eat grass as long as possible, then feed on small feedlots of grain, hay, and some corn and soybean meal. To her left is Niche Media CEO Jason Binns, who tells me that he likes Philly Chit Chat and “You’ve created something really nice for Philadelphia.” I mean you can’t get a better compliment than that. I asked about a few possible choices for covers, and I got a maybe, but I can’t discuss, but if you are a regular reader you might guess who; to his left, celebrity Chef and 10 Arts owner Eric Ripert. Didn’t have a chance to chat with him, probably would have asked about his beautiful wife who was so sweet to me when I met her in May, oh and probably about 10 Arts.

Christopher and Patricia DiGeorge with Lina and Carmen Tomassetti of http://www.cto.com/ , which has provided entertainment for some of Philly Style’s earlier parties that I have written about; His . I really should have cropped this closer, as Lina was really rocking it with her shoes, and well her whole outfit. By this time though it was getting late, and I was out the door to the next event, but
then John kindly brought Kerri-Lee Halkett http://www.kerri-lee.com/ over and I got the quick two shot before they ran out the door to get ready for the 10 o’clock show. Finally, sweet gift bag. Wish I got one cause it was loaded. Oh and by the way we have a winner for the Daily Candy gift bag that I held a contest for, so thanks for all your responses. I will try and do that again, sorry this one got away, but in it was: a gift certificate from Sorrelli Jewelers, Le Sport bag, Studio Haircut certificate for a free haircut, American Male haircut and hand massage, Chima Restaurant 2 for 1 coupon, Nicole Miller tie, Style Magazine, a few other things I missed as folks kept pulling me away to take their photos on the red carpet, then they would say is this going in the magazine, which I had to break their hearts and say no, but it might show up on Philly Chit Chat, and that seemed to be fine when I explained what the site is. OK and finally this really nice tote bag from Fabulous Stationary and an emergency pack of cards, you know like what you should keep at work when its your office mates birthday like hint hint mine yesterday!!

PHILADELPHIA RACE STREET FIREHOUSE MEETS ITS DEMISE re: but more than just memories remain

It was a charmer, on the list of the National Register, and many people love it. There was a campaign to save it, but to no avail. But the officials said it had to be razed in the name of progress for the convention center. One by one the buildings fell on the site (May 2008)
May 2008 And the Race Street Firehouse stood firm (June 2008)

week after week; I thought to myself maybe it had a reprieve. Although it was around this time that I took a walk to the firehouse and saw that all the ornaments were removed. Eventually this space was completely cleared of depris and the firehouse stood firm, and I realize now that I would check out the window for progress reports, but didn’t photograph it like I should have. But it was only a matter of time (July 2008)
before this would happen (monday 7/21/08)
and it was sad to see it go, another piece of Philadelphia history lost to “progress”. I was wondering why they couldn’t at least leave the facade like that had done to several other buildings in the City. But maybe all is not lost as it seems they left the tower. Could this be true, are they going to leave the Race Street Fire House fire tower? (I took this shot yesterday)

14th Philadelphia International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival re: the last time I need to write that for a few months PS Wrap Up

Here we are, 13 days later. After two weeks of memorable moments, parties, and superb films, the Festival is coming to a close. This evening, at 7:30pm, join hosts Robert Drake and Michaela Majoun as they end the Festival in style.

One of the VIP events that I enjoy going to is the Directors Brunch, but really Directors, Producers, Actors etc are invited to attend. This year it was held at MIXTO’s. Did I mention that we really appreciate our sponsors. OK I’m sorry to hurt anyone’s feelings, but this is my favorite photo. Very hipster these two. Hanging out with them keeps me young. Miguelina Polanco and the spinster Matthew Vlahos. This guy is going to be running the town in a few years, but you don’t have to watch your back, he brings you along too. I’m not going to lie, being a Professional Press Photographer, especially a “Celebrity” one allows me to access to people, places and things that most people do not get to go in general, but their are exceptions with the Phila Film Festivals and that would be through a sponsorship of some kind, high level management, connections, PR ability or this year the new PIGLFF VIP PASS; for a mere $525 you might have been right alongside me at some of the following events. For me my ticket to paradise was being part of the media, it’s as simple as having Philly Chit Chat, which blah blah you know gets an average of 500 hits a day (thank you, thank you, thank you), but it’s more exciting for everyone if I can get a photo placed in a publication. (Thanks for my credentials Matthew Ray with Andrew [more on him later])Locally I know almost immediately if a photo will place, nationally sometimes I don’t find out for a month or so until my invoice arrives from my NYC agency. This shot was published in Michael Klein’s INQlings Sunday, where you can find at least one of my photos each week. Here’s the original, isn’t it interesting to see it cropped, making it much more intimate.Jared Miller Membership Coordinator Philadelphia Film Society jmiller@phillyfests.com (Join Today, see free movies before the public does, support the Philly Film Festivals) Bruce LaBruce, don’t know much about him, love his name and the fact that he is willing to get a lot of tattoos on top of those freckles, which I would think would distort them. Maybe I will get a few now that he has proven that wrong.Casper Andreas, Director; “Between Love and Goodbye” which I believe he is experiencing.
Andrew and Mike in the VIP lounge of Pure on Smut Night. So new, so fresh, flush with excitement and just so darn cute.
Thank you Park Hyatt, XIX Cafe and Jeff Miller for the “The VIP 40th Anniversary Reception for Midnight Cowboy” last week. L-R Jerome Hellman, Thom Cardwell and TLA co-owner Ray Murray. (I remember years ago, at least 15 years ago, I wrote Ray Murray a fan letter something along the lines of I appreciate you creating the Phila Gay Film Festival. It’s great to see people like me up on the big screen.” I never told him, in fact I didn’t even talk to him until last April’s film festival. Now if you are following along, he would be another of my Philly Hero’s, got that, what’s the list at now. Sharon Pinkenson, hmm its 2AM I can’t remember the other one right now, I think we’re up to three. Anyway thats another good reason to be a celebrity photographer, or Philebrity Photographer, I wonder if Joey Sweeney has a copy write on that word Philebrity? [access])

Philly City Paper (plus another one this Thursday) Ettore, Noel and Gary at Opening night, then where did you guys go?Ray gives a little love to Pearl, the NUMBER 1 volunteer in the City. Whatever you do don’t ask her opinion on Fumo, ok do, but don’t tell her I sent you.

Perri, I really like Perri. When she smiles her beauty shines through… TMZ comes to Philly in the form of http://www.streettalkin.com/videoindex.html David Dyer aka Scoops is perfect for the job with his charisma, charm, wit, spontaniety and inqusitive nature he is able to get the scoop, to relax the subject and get them to do and say so many things. Like this guy who just left “Mama Mia”, but you have to see it for yourself http://www.streettalkin.com/videoindex.htmlOK another placement. Entertainment blogs are driving the industry. Recently the AP fired 20 of their news photographers and hired 15 entertainment photographers; I’m not saying that is good, its just a reflection of our society, maybe vapid, but none the less entertaining and big business. This blog the “Musings from a Nobody”, generates enough traffic that he is able to afford to purchase my photos from my photo agency and then write about where Johnny Hazard and Blake Riley appeared. The great thing is now people reading his blog will know that Philly has a GL Film Fest. Maybe they’ll come to it next year. OK not a VIP party, but a party at Bump for the movie Antarctica. More on the Bump and Sisters events later this week.
Two sponsors, Bryan Hoffman of Hoffman Designs and Jeffrey Miller of XIX at the Bellevue Hyatt.

a costar from “Another Gay Sequel”, Dave ya wanna help me out here, I didn’t catch the name.
Janet Calderwood and friends. Kelly Burkhardt shows Michael Sanyour and Larayda Byers her new tattoo

Jane Lynch makes Elle Magazine .com I love when my photos make this site.
but I really love this shot of Mark James and Thom Cardwell. I do believe that Mark James has actually passed Matthew Vlahos in crazy shirts and is now gaining on Thom.

Crazy, how about Eric giving Chi Chi LaRue the red ruby slippers that appear on the cover of the film festival guide. How sweet was that?Someone I really admire Steve McCann, the face behind http://www.phillygaycalendar.com/ and OMG how many pads back is those names (did I mention it was 2.20AM now, I will have to look tomorrow) This party was out in East Falls for Charlie David.
Richard Weinstock had a lovely BBQ in honor of his friend Charlie David and his new movie “Mulligan”. Producer Mark Stiffler, host Richard Weinstock, Dev. Director of PFF Thom Cardwell, star and hottie Charlie David and director Linda Carter (not that one)
This was another VIP party. They probably wouldn’t want me to say who’s house it was. The opening day cocktail party. “Another Gay Sequel” stars. Will Winkle loves his Vitamin Water and we do too, thanks for sponsoring us.
Dave if I screw up with the names, help me out ok?

Eddie, Laura Burkhardt (who’s been vacationing and missing from Philly Chit Chat for a bit) and that handsome generous devil Jeff Miller.
Stephen Byler and Mary Patel make the scene at the Phila Film Society party at Calderwood.
Jonah Blechman, ANOTHER GAY SEQUEL: GAYS GONE WILD! signs the poster at another Mixto brunch Another published photo at “Musings from a Nobody” Derrick L. Briggs at the “Finding Me” premiere reception at Miss Tootsies. I will be writing about this movie in the next week or so.

Thanks Ms. Tootsie’s Soul Food Cafe (215) 731-9045 Simone, Robert Drake, John (Happy Anniversary guys!!) and friends…
Hmm another VIP party
Butch Cordova is readying his new Calendar Straight Men naked and him for the 2009 season. Plus he’s still doing “In Bed with Butch” and has a new radio show every Wednesday on WPEB 88.1 FM live from 9PM til 12 Midnight. Tune in and get the scoop. Email him at Phillybutch@yahoo.com if you have any questions or you want to say hi, or accuse him of being your baby’s daddy
Andrew bringing back the T-Shirt and the unshaven chest back in style. You will have to review the blog over the past few posts, Andrew really has gone above and beyond the call of duty with his many different styles and looks

James Duggan and Michael Childers, director John Schlesinger’s partner, at the Mixto Brunch. I told you those things were fun.

In fact I got this shot of Jane Lynch blowing out the candle on her Tastykake for her birthday there. It was published on http://www.phillygossip.com/ (BTW I have a photo in the Metro today, I don’t know what page its on yet, but its of Larry Mendte & Alycia Lane; an exclusive I don’t think anyone has took it but me ’cause I have never seen one published) Aah bear country. Larry Ferber_Doug_Languray_Bears_PIGLFF_Brunch_HJD (that’s how it’s written when I send it to my agency; its a pain and time consuming)
Jim Lonsdale, Michael Braunstein and Joe McCallum. Forgive me for not looking youse up at these second, did I mention its 2.45PM and I have to work tomorrow at 9AM?

Matthew Vlahos and Sarah Doheny or S&M dontcha think?
I love this shot of Heather Coutts on the far left; her accessaries match the sponsoring SCION car. Thanks SCION.
Will someone get this guy a modeling contract, please! Sharon Pinkenson, Susan Helfrich and Mary Patel; These girls are putting the SSSS back in style. Oh tonight I will be covering the Philadelphia Style Magazine Party with Terrence Howard, before I go to the closing night movie and party for the PIGLFF. I guess I will be a tad tired.

Victor Mignetti, he was the director of one of my favorite movies “Broadway Damage” (1997) and recently directed R. ‘not convicted” Kelly’s Trapped in the Closet: Chapters 13-22
Smirnoff Thanks. Did I mention I don’t drink.

“Two Minutes Later” Robert Gaston and photographer extrodinaire Gail Kamenish. Robert is currently working on a new film with Jessica Graham; After the film festival Gail will get ready for shooting football season. Although she is the official event photographer for the Festival, she is an accomplished photojournalist for the AP in her homestate of Kentucky. To see more of her festival work check out: http://www.imageevent.com/piglff2008

Thanks PIGLFF I had a great time, thanks for the access, for the appreciation, for the friendship, see you next year. I know it might be hard to believe but I still have a few more events to write up, and I hope to upload the guest photos to the album next weekend so If I took your photo you can just go there and take it off. Thanks to everyone for letting me shoot you sometimes 2, 3 or 4 times these past weeks. Just remember if Madonna changes her outfit between gigs, I have to photograph her sometimes even if its the same day.

PHILADELPHIA 20 in 24 is a 24-hour race re: crazy-ass runners driven by an obsessive desire to help the homeless

A few weeks back our friend Jeremy told us about this insane event he was participating in. The 20 in 24 is a 24-hour race hosted by Back on My feet, a non-profit organization that uses running as a vehicle to promote the self sufficiency within Philadelphia’s homeless population. Participants can compete in the Relay Challenge (5 members per team), Ultra-Marathon, or Glow-in-the-dark Midnight Madness Run. This event is sponsored by Nike. Mike and I went out about 1PM to support his begining run. Then returned around 1AM to cheer him on again (Mike brought his bike to find Jeremy on the course and ride with him for a few miles). I hung out with his boyfriend George who was out there the entire 24 hrs with the other runner widows offering support, and cheering their spouses onAfter a few moments of rest and greetings, Jeremy was on his way. Mike returned home and I thought I would just walk a few minutes along the route with Jeremy. Here I made him pose with “Rocky” Then I decided since there was extra police and bike monitors along the route, I would shoot boat house row for the first time in 10 years.

And in the end I made the mistake, or inspirational trek with Jeremy to finish the last 10 mile lap with him. Here he stops at one of the 4 rest stops along the way that were manned by volunteers, some who were out there the whole 24hrs too. I tried a Fuze Juice, they were delicious. So it’s about 3Am at this stop. All the time I am thinking, what am I doing, I have to shoot the Philadelphia Film Festival Brunch at NOON, am I crazy?
4AM, catching the full moon and Falls Bridge. During our walk Jeremy told me how he got into running. A few years back he was about 100lbs over weight, depressed and very unhappy. He decided to do something about it, but in the dark of night, just in case he failed at it he didn’t want anyone to see that he even tried. He started out by running about a 100 feet, then each night added another 50 or so, he never did less than the night before’s run, and before you know it he was up to a mile, and dropping weight eventually losing 100lbs. He really is an inspiration to anyone who has battled weight problems
Then my favorite scupltures “Three Pans” dancing in the light of the Full moon. This is one of my favorite photos in recent memory. It’s about 4:15AM here
Jeremy reaches the 50 Mile mark, but we still have 1.7 miles til the end of the course. I am crazed with delusions and experiencing a few blisters.

by the time we reached the finish line it was daybreak. The timer states that it’s benn 19.41 hours since the race began. Jeremy adreline kicks in yet again and he
is beaming when he crosses the official finish line
George, who has been up for just about 24 hrs is estatic for Jeremy. I take one last funny shot of them and can’t wait to go home. Thank god I live just a few blocks away. (I did make the brunch and will be posting the photos this week). I enjoyed the walk, especially since Jeremy and I have the gift of gab. The 3.5 hrs really did fly by. Don’t quiz me on what we talked about, that is lost in the daze, I have no idea. But it certainly is a good starting point for me to get my butt in gear and get back into shape.

MAMA MIA THE MOVIE IS A HIT, BLAST, SUPA STAR re: go see it

MAMMA MIA! employs the hit songs of famed pop group ABBA to tell the story of Sophie Sheridan, a young girl who hopes to discover the identity of her father. On the eve of her wedding, she brings three men from her mother Donna’s past back to the Greek island they visited over two decades ago. It was here that the story began, well not began, but was played out for the first time. The story began with British Judy Craymer who in 1995 was working with Tim Rice on Chess in collaboration with Björn Ulvaeus (at the 5th Anniversary of Mama Mia on Broadway 10/18/06) and Benny Andersson (orginal members of ABBA); she had an idea to produce a play using ABBA songs, as she was a huge fan and knew there was a story that could be weaved around these songs. Björn and Benny were nervous, they were very protective of their work, soon their fears were put to rest. She commission Catherine Johnson to write a screenplay about love, loss and triumph. When the script was finished tapped Phyllida Lloyd to direct the piece. Three strong women were behind the success of this musical about three strong women. Mama Mia opened on April 6th 1999 at prestigious Prince Edward Theatre in London’s West End. October 2001 heralded the Broadway premiere at The Winter Garden Theatre. And it was at that time that I saw the musical, it was just the life that NYC needed after the tragedy that befell the City the month before. – A few months back I photographed the Lincoln Center Salutes Meryl Streep event. At the time I had no idea who this bloke was, but now that I have seen the movie I know why he was at the event. Actor Stellan Skarsgard [Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) has sent wedding invitations to the three men who might be her dad: Bill (Stellan Skarsgard), Sam (Pierce Brosnan) and Harry (Colin Firth)] Meryl Streep seems to channel her inner silliness; hitting every note effortlessly, with an appealingly light pop voice, she prances through the movie as if ever-so-slightly tipsy. She twists her lines into appealing little knots, and does a bit of comic business involving a cordless drill that’s almost a movie in itself, and this is why the film is so great, it’s not to be taken seriously, it’s trivial, fun, lighthearted and totally Streep. And when was the last time you heard an audience clap at the end of a song in a movie, ok that’s right Dreamgirls, well they did it tonight too, but I’m not going to tell you which song, you will just have to see it for yourself.
The downside of the movie: OK, let’s get this out of the way: Streep is 20 years too old for this role. Any attempt to put the characters’ histories into a coherent time frame will result in a splitting headache and I did spend a good part of the movie trying to figure out what age Meryl is supposed to be, finally the daughter states her age and I thought, THAT’S RIGHT!! This is a movie and we are supposed to suspend our sense of reality. My advice: Just roll with it.
But then again Meryl’s real daughter Mamie Gummer born 8/3/1983, so it could happen? Sassy little thing isn’t she. Here she is at the Film Society event I mentioned, it was in April 2008

Christine Baranski [56 years old, so at least her age is in context with Meryl Streep, because had they cast say Uma Thurman or that bitch Jennifer Aniston, well it would be way off [see 5/17 for reference why the biotch comment] plays one of Donna’s best friends. She was amazing, and in the words of the Swedish super group, she can dance, she can jive, she’s having the time of her life and it shows in this movie. Her scenes are delicious, and girl Ms Baranski can kick as high as a Rockette. Currently she can be seen on Broadway in Boeing-Boeing. I took this shot at the Tony Awards last month in NYC.

One more downside, Pierce Bronson was miscast, but who cares, he’s so handsome. Ironically one of the songs he sings is SOS, and I just wanted to laugh when he sang that line.

The Trailer

I doubt this movie in the long run effects the Broadway run of Mama Mia, but I do think the timing of the touring show coming to Philly the same week as the movie opens might have some effect on the ticket sales. But I hope not. 7/18 – 7/27 at the Academy

AND don’t forget to go see the PHILADELPHIA INTERNATIONAL GAY & LESBIAN FILM FESTIVAL as it winds down next Tuesday, http://www.phillyfests.com/piglff/2008/home.cfm I will be posting right through the weekend as I have a lot to say. Also subscribe to my blog and everytime I update it you will be notified in your mailbox between 9AM & 11:59AM so you won’t miss a thing. Then if it sounds like something you want to read, you just click on the link. (I’m lying, I want you to click on the link whether you care or not – LOL) Thanks HughE

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIKE & HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO US BOTH re: ok and Happy Birthday to me in 7 days

July is a big month for us. We love July 4th, that’s why we have 2 parties. We bought our house in July. It’s our anniversary, really on 7/10, but Mike being the typical guy said he might not remember that day could we do it on the day that we had our first date, his birthday. I gave him Tomatos and peppers for that first date, I grew them in my community garden. Then the 3rd date on 7/23 I took him to meet my parents, I had never done that before, even though I had been out for 10 years. And the rest is history, our history. A very good history. Thanks to Mike I can bring you nightly updates of the Philly social events. He is also preparing the calendar, no pressure Mike, and helping out on the business end of things ’cause I’m the artist, I keep telling him, and he’s the business man, really mike you are.

So join me in wishing Mike a big Happy Birthday!!

PIGLFF XIX COCKTAIL PARTY IN CELEBRATION OF Midnight Cowboy 40th Anniversary re: photos of a swanky afternoon among celebrities

The Philadelphia Gay Lesbian Film Festival is just kicking into high gear, don’t worry mom I am getting enough sleep to get by. Here we are Saturday afternoon being hosted by XIX and GM Jeffrey Miller for their generosity. As we enter the breath taking lounge we find equally breath taking Perri and Jarad who no doubt are disgusted that they have to pose one more time for Philly Chit Chat because I like my photoblog to have some continuity. And I need to do a photo check too, yep colors are perfect. Seriously kids smile next time, you guys can light up a room with your smiles, I’ve seen them I so made a beeline over to the women in the red hair after I received this email from my friend David Traupman who left me behind as he summers and winters in Miami with his beau Jesse Walters. Who as some of you may know refused to be a delegate in support of George W Bush at the 2004 Convention (I know he’s still a republican, but we can overlook that, he seems to be smarter than most -ouch, ok mom and dad are republicans too and I still love them) David writes: “Speaking of movies – I was speaking yesterday to Carol Coombes, the Director of the Miami GLBT festival and she is heading to Phila festival this weekend to speak on a panel (something regarding media and film). If you see a thin woman wearing dark lipstick and pink hair in an asymmetircal cut speaking in a British accent, it is her. Be sure to say hi and take lots of great pictures of her to post on your site. Carol is wonderful – she came to Miami after working with the London film festival and has really built up the festival here.” She is with girlfriend Raquel Berman and TLA staffer Lewis Tice. Karen Cornell is one of the sweetest of the sweets. She shoots for Philly Edge & Philly Gay Calendar when she’s not summering down the shore and shooting for the Cape May Herald (Don’t you love their Shout Out Page “Mrs Smith lets her children run around the yard in barefeet while the chickens roost there!” or “Would the women who gave me the finger while making a right on red, get off the damn phone and pay attention!”; if you ever stayed in Cape May County you’d know what I am talking about) here she is with girlfriend Beth Frank.

Director of last year’s “Four Letter Word” and this years “Between Love & Goodbye.” Alongside him between love and good bye is his boyfriend actor Ryan Turner. Could this be the new Mia & Woody, or Joel Cohen and Frances McDormand. Actors being directed by their spouses, by the looks of the movie greatness was achieved.
Denice Witkowski, Jen Hughes and Melanie Orpen who is just about to celebrate another birthday in a few weeks.

Cute, Jesse Cute that is. Really this guy has a lot to live up to with that name and I think he’s achieved it. They are all a bit cute, don’t ya think? Which one is Jesse Cute do you think?
My trio of happiness Sharon Pinkenson, Mary Patel and Susan Helfrich. Did you see the great shot of Susan and Sharon in last months Philadelphia Style Magazine. Great fashion shot. Paige Wolfe and Jackie
Tim Yates, VP OmeProductions, “Finding Me”, Sontaia P. Briggs President of One Productions and Donald Carter. I wish I had met these two after the film, which I saw last night. Nicely done, great storyline, exactly what the African-American community needs, an honest but optimistic gay storyline. No DL crap going on here.
John Herzins, Carlie Seltzer and Rich Goldberg

the XIX spread
Director Todd Stephens and actor Aaron Michael Davies
It’s time to go see the movie. If you noticed that you didn’t see the honorees of the night, it’s not a mistake as those shots may very well turn up in the press and well I can’t scoop myself.
Joey Ruggiero and Kathy Fowler. Check out Joey out at http://highoctanefacemask.blogspot.com/ I went to school with a Kathy Fowler, she was a total Deadhead but also wore a tierra. I wonder what happened to her, I wonder if this KF is her daughter? Yea I’m that old, another birthday is just 8 days away, but I am having the time of my life so it doesn’t bother me like when I turned 25.

PHILADELPHIA STYLE MAGAZINE PARTY PHOTOS “Best Of List” re: Thursday I covered two big parties in town, but they were seamless in fun

ENTER THE WORLD OF FANTASY AND DELIGHT. Having just shot an event here the day before I was amazed at the transformation into a decadent den of iniquity Have a drink, these pops were collectibles. So if you were willing to carry it home you could add it to your pretty bottle display

The VIP lounge. Sofa’s by Natuzzi. They done it up right.
Thom Cardwell or Henri David look a like, it was neither as I swung him around. Skinny water, vitamin water, smart water? Finally adjectives that for water that were attributed to the product without marketing.
Wine is Brian Freedman’s expertise, ya gotta hear the pouring of the wine on his website. So authentic you wanna pop a bottle yourself: http://www.brianfreedmanphiladelphia.com/ with him is his wife Stephy.
I’m just a sweet transvestite was probably not the theme they were going for here Miriam serves up the drinks at Urban Saloon and participated in “Martini Madness” contest
I was looking for a little style, a little magic, a little something that would jazz up the blog and I found it here with Marlene Gravely, Kathy Holtzer, Marie Campanile, Carol and Ralph Colabelli
(I think they may be related to John M. Colabelli, Philly Style Magazine’s publisher) Publishing the magazine every two months drives me crazy, I need more updates with the social scene. That’s what I am tryin to do here on Philly Chit Chat as long as I don’t get distracted
Kim Locher and Kim Gravatt with Jaermeil liquor. Now this is a decandent amount of liquor for to be consumed. Pearl where the superstars seem to go late. Hello call me, I take photos, I’d like to get you noticed, I’ve been published in all the swanky glossies nationally (I’m Philly’s only paparazzi ie see my kyw interview) Would have loved to photographed John Legend there last week!! Ahh the other superstar photographer, not a paparazzi, but an honest to goodness celebrity, portrait snapper, Christopher Gabello (check his stuff in the Metro [finally they are giving up their taking photos off the AP and using someone local to get local stuff]), PunchMedia James Zeleniak http://punchmedia.biz/ and Wayne Glassman of Wayne Edward’s Men’s store. hmm autograph seeker

kissing cousins Paula and Ashley with g-men Rob and Matt Ettore is back from Dallas Pride, where it was hot in more ways than I can put into this blog (ie see Chi Chi LaRue entry)
Jayne Laychak, Nola Dabs, Megan Stecher and Sarah Haas
Erin Boyle, Kim Derrak, Eirica D’Andrea and Jillian Dunn. They are all sporting their Nicole Miller as Erin chomps on a chocolate cigar. No lungs were hurt during this photo shoot.
CTO’s Big Walt and the Groove PHAG Jason Crook and Sheryl Freas. I’m not a big Phan of the word PHAG no matter how it’s spelled, but the guys over at PHAG have embraced it and it’s turned into quite a cute store with something for everyone. Think the defunct “Afterwords” with “Fosters” and you have PHAG. http://www.thephagshop.com/ And I do love his stylish paisley coat.

Megan Roe, Sheryl Raskin, B101 marissa mignatta, pleasing PR maven Paige Wolfe and her columnist husband Mike. Paige wrote a very clever song about Social Networking on the internet http://www.myspace.com/paigewolfmusic I really like it. It should so be released. Paige is definitely one of the most multifaceted people that I underestimated as a person. She just goes about big life in a quiet way. It’s nice like a slow boat that leaves no wake. Tumbling Dice provided the tables for the charity games that benefitted the “Gift of Life”. Right to left we find the lucky wagers Tanya Teece of Teece Advertising, Molly Sager and Danny Cevallos, who I think was trying his luck at more than just the cards.
Face painter Diana Bright, Ch40’s Adrianne Soresi and entertainment maven Brett Silver. I can only dream to get his numbers someday. No not his number, his hits that he received on his website. I have been wondering if I should do an email blast as he does, but I think I will be going with the subscriber passive method. I may a tortise in marketing but I’ll get there and it will be one less email you don’t want in your box. Although I do love getting his stuff, reminds me to keep my game up.
Jimmy Contreras and Lauren Jacobsen. Jimmy is on “The List” of Philly Style Magazine, and I heard from a little birdie that there will be a feature of him in an upcoming issue.
OK this chick is the cat’s meow, I believe she whispered as she grabbed my arm and wanted a photo. I said who with? Just me baby, just me. So here it is and I think it’s Ashley your girl next door.
Raise the roof, theres always one in the crowd
Michelle and Brett or is it Brad? Did I mention I was dyslexic?
What time is it, I have to head over to the PIGLFF Opening Party or were they wondering when these girls got off to continue the party elsewhere? What do you think? Ah pure angelic Cashman Girls. Holly, Ashley and Jaclyn. It’s like Farrah, Kate and well Jacklyn all over again.
Raise your hands, guess there’s more than one in the group

Damn someone recognized me in my loud paisley shirt and they want my autograph. In fact, I had no idea when I took the below photo who he was? I said to his wife, now what’s your name. Michelle and your last name. B-U-R-R-E-L-L great, and is this your husband? “Yes”, and what’s his name? M stares at me with well kinda the beautiful look she has below and says “Pat”. Then it clicked – LOL (That’s the photo I took, it was in yesterday’s Inquirer – Michael Klein’s INQlings)
Sgt. Ray and his friends. I love that in this line of work I get to meet testostorone driven guys like Ray and Brad because if I didn’t do this I would never have been able to observe the amazing prowess of the Philadelphia social scene makers in every circumstance whether it’s a gay event, straight event or mixed, which this really was ’cause I ran into quite a few people who didn’t go to the Z Club but went to the Opening night at the Philly Gay & Lesbian Film Festival Party too. We’re all just social animals who are looking for a little action, mine is to observe and record, of course there’s a lot, and I mean a lot of “OFF THE RECORD” that stays safely in my personal journal, offline.
Stacy Jorgensen, Monica Malpass (come on Dan leave Monica alone, she’s a mom for godsake), Sal DeAngelo (Demi Moore likes to eat at his place) and Dancing with the Stars youngin’ Brian Fortuna of Haddon Heights.
Party Crasher: Someone who attempts and often gains entry to a party or club to which they were not invited, often using social engineering techniques. Sadly for this one stylish soul this party was the one that got away, and it’s ashame as she’s sporting a little color, a photographers dream. Postscript: WELCOME to PHILLY Style Magazine, I like your makeover, did I mention the website needs a little work, but I like your night life. You are bringing it. When I lived in NYC I attended more than my share of Gotham Magazine & Hampton Magazine parties, and you haven’t disappointed here. One suggestion, KELLY RIPA IS FROM SOUTH JERSEY, she was on 9/2007 Hampton Magazine Cover and now you need to get her on the Philly Style Cover. Love her, want her home. Oh and invite me to cover it in plenty of time so I can clear my schedule. Thanks. (UPDATE: Photo Gallery Feel free to download up to medium size photos and purchase larger sizes if you want: http://hughephotos.smugmug.com/gallery/5434255_npLBK#332291777_J3g3d )
