Happy Monday afternoon, such a beautiful weekend. Me, the family was in town for the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Walk/Run. I’m trying to catch up on a lot of work now. Heading to the Weston Fitness in a bit, then off to photograph Hillary and Bernie Sanders, maybe Chelsea Clinton and who know who else. Seems like a lot of notables and celebs are in town for Primary Day tomorrow. Remember to Vote, it’s important.
Actor, Philadelphia native Will Smith was spotted at the Ritz Residences earlier today. He was with real estate agents, could it be possible he’s looking at the raw penthouse that has been written about a lot lately. Would that be great if Will Smith lived near his family and where he grew up? Check out the Penthouse Stats Here.
Hey Cari here with Senator Cory Booker, or as I hear a front runner for Hillary’s VP. He follows me on Twitter. I’m a fan.
Actor Justin Long stopped by Gay/Lesbian bar – Tabu Lounge after appearing on Penn’s Campus stumping for Bernie Sanders on Saturday. Justin Long has played gay before, but I hear he likes the ladies.

Congrats to Josh DeMarco, Jason Matthews Salon, who was a winner in the Wella Trend Vision 2016 regional winner at the Fillmore Sunday Night.

Welcome Gate, Tulips, Lotus Gallery, Flower Fairy, these are a few of the lanterns you’ll see when you visit the Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival in Franklin Square over the next two months. Open daily from April 22 through June 12, there are 25+ handcrafted lanterns throughout the square. PS I purposely did not show you all the light, you really have to go. It’s a fun, unique experience which were lucky to have in Philadelphia.
Tickets are $17 and for kids 17 and under $12
Last night was the official media kick off party where Gov Rendell, (when he was mayor allotted funds for Franklin Square), Amy Needle executive director of Historic Philadelphia and John Dougherty, Business Manager of Local 98 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. (his team volunteer to connect the electrical wire for the exhibit)
When the Gov spoke he pointed out Karen Butler (center in pink), who during his administration was the head of the Mayor’s Action Council on Visitors and was the first executive director of Historic Philadelphia Inc.
Meryl Levitz, president and CEO of VISIT PHILADELPHIA spoke about the excitement and how it would attract visitors to the Square, which has great permanent attractions like the carousel, miniature gold, a beautiful fountain and much more.
In addition to glowing flowers, dragons and figures, the festival also promises nightly entertainment to accompany the exhibit.
Face-Changing
A performer changes masks quicker than you can blink in this 300-year

Admission to Franklin Square remains completely free before 6 p.m. After 6 p.m., tickets are required to enter the square and the Chinese Lantern Festival.

Here are a few things from the gift shop, which is on the left of the fountain
On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, the Dragon Beer Garden will serve beer, wine and cocktails in addition to non-alcoholic drinks and food. Alcoholic beverages focus on Asian drinks like Tsing Tao, Tiger Beer and Sapporo with other options like Crabby’s Ginger Beer, Yuengling and local craft beer. It was great to see Tara Lessard (r) out and about with her girlfriend Shanel Sherese. Look for Tara’s pics in PGN next week.
Franklin Square’s SquareBurger, an on-site eatery, will serve a variety of themed food items including cheesesteak egg rolls, Chinese chicken salad, sweet and sour burger and a fortune cookie shake in addition to their signature SquareBurger and cake shake.
Hai Street Kitchen, a fast-casual sushi burrito restaurant, will also vend at the festival. Look for the popular eatery Wednesday through Saturday throughout the run of the festival.
Good Thursday Morning, running crazy today, trying to catch up. Hope you’re well. It’s Friday eve, what’s not to love, even though it’s supposed to rain tomorrow, but it’s going to be 80 so there’s that, tomorrow. Here goes with a short Philly Gossip entry
PhillyGossip: She Said Yes, 50 Cents Redux, Death House Wraps, Apprentice alumni Erin Elmore and Omarosa Manigault extend their 15 minutes of fame touting Trump for President.
The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board today announced that award-winning rapper, entrepreneur, actor and producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson will sign pre-purchased bottles of EFFEN® Vodka from Noon to 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 23, at the Fine Wine & Good Spirits Premium Collection Store, 180 W. Girard Ave, Philadelphia
If this sounds like a Groundhog Day moment, it is. Fifty was just here less than a year ago last July, at the same liquor store. I guess he needs a few more fifties to get him out of bankruptcy. I won’t be able to make it this time either cause I have the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Walk at the Art Museum, then I’m headed to PIFA Street Fair on Broad Street, where I hope you’ll be headed too.
I do like the name though…

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts produced the celebrated Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA) and its grand finale, the PIFA Street Fair. The culminating event of the 16-day festival transforms six blocks of Broad Street (between Chestnut and South Streets) into Philadelphia’s ultimate FREE block party featuring dozens of performances, rides, a zip line, popular food vendors, and this year’s centerpiece – an enormous waterfall in the center of Broad Street across from the Academy of Music. The 2016 PIFA Street Fair will take place on Saturday, April 23 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Congrats to Giovanni Siciliano who popped the question to his long time girlfriend Kathryn earlier this week. Kathryn was out running on Kelly Drive and Giovanni popped out from behind this tree, with their dog, and popped the question. She said Yes!!
Hillary was at the Fillmore for a #Hilladelphia Rally last night, yes last night. She was supposed to be there about 5 PM but I hear she was a bit tardy. Photographers, like Kory Aversa, had to be in place for 4 hrs, but I hear it was worth it. Hillary 2016 did selfies with hundreds of supporters.
While backstage a few fans got posed shots, and looky here one with Sen Bob Casey.
Death House with Dee Wallace and Adrienne Barbeau wrapped principle shooting at Holmesburg Prison.
Mac Mart is readying their place for a May opening. The popular Mac Mart mac & cheese truck is getting a brick and mortar at 104 South 18th Street with hours til 9PM and much later, maybe even til 3AM on the weekends. – Munchie time.
Trump Apprentice alumnus Erin Elmore and Omarosa Manigault in NYC this week trumpeting Trump for President. Erin Elmore has been vocal on nearly every national station for the past year, giving us the real Donald Trump story and not just the trumped up sound bites.
Last week I broke the story about the Art Museum having a food truck at the top of the stairs. Then I updated my blog and the link became broken. So I’m hear to tell you the story again, but briefly.
Operated by culinary partner STARR Catering Group, this food truck dishes up delicious burgers with an artistic twist
Try the classic Easy Eakins, the Italian-inspired Rocky Balburger, the Peale’s Portobello, or one of many others with a side of crispy, old-fashioned fries. The names are killing me, Easy Eakins, Rocky Balburger, Disco Fries – love.
The food truck is open the same hours as the museum, weather permitting, AND is located at the top of the Rocky Steps, to reward you with a treat for running up them.
Next Saturday The City is holding a Youth Summer Job Fair.
Earlier this month I attended a unique event at Porsche of The Main Line as they debut the 2017 Porsche 911. Guests included owners of earlier models, fans of the sleek car as well as future buyers.
‘‘The American race car driver, David Donohue, helped Porsche of The MainLine dealership debut the new Porsche 911.2 as he raced down Route 3 and into the showroom.
Nearly 200 guests were on hand to see the new Porsche 911.2, which offers two models, both equipped with turbochargers in an effort to curb fuel consumption and emissions while boosting power, a sharper design and the sleekest headlights you’ll ever see.

You might recognize Jeanette Gillin and Jim Gillin as I traditionally photograph them at the Philly Car Show every January. He is seriously into cars, specialty cars like Porche’s which he picks up at auctions and then tinkers with them back to perfection.

Good Wednesday, if this Philly Gossip entry looks somewhat familiar it is. I posted this originally on Monday, but then my site switch over to the new site, which your’re looking at right now. This entry started getting a lot of hits so I need to repost it. This is going to happen alot this week as I have to repost entries of interest that I want captured on my new, refreshed site.
Paul Makerie and Tiffani Thiessen
Tiffani Thiessen aka Kelly Kapowski on NBC’s Saved by the Bell and as Valerie Malone on Fox’s Beverly Hills, 90210. These days Tiffani has a cooking show on the Cooking Network called appropriately “Dinner at Tiffani’s” which airs at 8PM on Sundays. She was in town making an appearance at the Sweet Paul Makerie creative retreat which was held at the Navy Yard in URBAN over the weekend.
Tiffani Thiessen and Chef Michael Solomonov
In between the meets, greets and demonstrations, Tiffani spent a lot of time dining at Mike Solomonov eateries. Friday night she had dinner at Zahav, Sunday before leaving town she grabbed some grub at Dizengoff and dessert at Federal Donuts. I’d say there’s a segment at Dinner’s at Tiffani’s in Mike Solo’s career.
Friday night my phone was blowing up for another reason too, seems Jesse McCartney was in town and his fans wanted to know. Nothing was on the radar ie Social Media which led me to piece the story together, but then Saturday night Jesse stepped out to grab dinner from Steve’s at 16th and Chestnut. He was kind enough to pose with a few fans inside one of Philly’s famed must have cheesesteak places.
Sunday, shots of Jesse began showing up from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa. Philly was just being used as a base for Jesse, as it was only 2 hrs away from his Sunday gig, and Philly being what it is, is better to sleep over.
Ian Michael Crummand his bestie, budding songstress Hannah Krupa had an awesome time at Cochella this past weekend, partying with lots of stars including Kyle Jenner. Next up for Ian, he’s headed to the Tribeca Film Festival Thursday night. Follow him on Snap Chat to be a fly on the wall. Check back on Friday for more Philly Gossip.
For years I’ve resisted going modern with Philly Chit Chat, while embracing modern technology like cell phones that take pictures and video and go on the internet. When I started PCC back in 2007, I think AOL was still dial up or something like that and although that was annoying and eventually changed with the times, I ignored all the readers and friends who would call my blog outdated and ugly. I said isn’t it about the content, the pretty pictures, the information, why does it have to change. Anyway here I am thanks to Chatterblastapproaching me, with one of their partners 2ONE5 who knocked some sense into me as my dad would say. With help from Ian M Crumm and my hubby Mike Toub, here we are today at City Tap House revealing the newly refreshed PhillyChitChat. Bear or bare with me as I’ve never used WordPress, although I think I am the only one left in the world that hasn’t. I can’t wait to explore all the nuances. UPDATE FROM this point: I can see there is a bit of a learning curve, there’s little notes at the bottom saying I need more text to meet the minimum standard of 300 words, are we there yet? I was eager to get a post up so I didn’t wait for my 2one5 lesson, which I really should get one from them as they’re the experts. Isn’t this site pretty, I’m so excited.
Chatterblast Crew at Flip Cup Tournament at Field House
That was a fun event, I wrote about it last week on PhillyChitChat but need to update the site so you can see it as it fell in that area after the cut off where I wasn’t supposed to add anything. Are we up to 300 words yet, usually I dont have these issues but today I am so excited to explore the site I am at a loss for words.
The 2one5 Team at Phlipadelphia
Thanks everyone, and thanks Tap House Logan, Janine and Christie Honigman for arranging the party. And you my friends and readers. And Danya Henninger, Billy Penn for that really nice article on my life and how I started blogging.
And Replica Creative and Joe Kolodi for creating my LOGO, and Wallsome for the cool wall coverings.
And everyone, sorry if I forgot to include you, feel free to send me an email or shout it out.
This is still the old site, the new site launches this week!
If you follow me on Instagram, you’d know that each day I submit a photo of the Art Museum, which I take when my shuttle bus passes it or when I’m walking by. I live a cross the street so it’s not a stretch for me to know when something different is happening. I’ve notice the past couple weeks that a food truck parked itself up there. I wonder what it was but I just haven’t had a minute to run over.
Today I got a fairly good shot of it and posted it on my Social Media Channels.
I got a message back from the Art Museum. It’s their custom food truck.
Operated by culinary partner STARR Catering Group, this food truck dishes up delicious burgers with an artistic twist on the East Terrace.
IT’s FRIDAY AGAIN, enjoy this entertain clip from last week as well as blasting the best party song EVER!!
The follow is a pictorial of the very generous, sometimes custom tshirt clad participants in what has become a must participate outing
And it’s downright fun too.
The participants included the who’s who of the Philly young set
Tim Adams, of Public House, returned to MC the event with his usual flair
Congrats to Joey Conicella and Alex Marin on their move to Dallas, for Todd’s new position in Aramark.
You have to be pretty confident to go out like this
Everybody loves Marissa
Yeah it was crowded
Ernest Owens doesn’t drink beer, but he does dance
Duck Dynasty was in the house. They told me they saw the event on FB and had to come and support. They had no idea how overwhelmingly friendly the crowd would be.
Did I mention it was crowded?
with serious game players
raising money for charity
yeah I did and even the losers knew it was all for a good cause
Coming in 2nd place were We Got Legs, who won last year.
You’ll recall that last year chatter was that PHS was going to POP UP with a beer garden at
3 Logan Square, at 18th and Cherry
Streets, but it never materialized.
Reports were that the plaza was under construction, but I’ve learned it was because Tower Bistro at 1717 Arch St, had already applied for the liquor license for the plaza and I’ve been told that only one can be issued per space. Yesterday it was granted to Tower Bistro who will have a permanent Pop Up space for you to imbibed outdoors. Now you can enjoy beer and much more spirits at 3 Logan Plaza, including sandwiches from Tower Bistro, which is owned by the same folks who run Top of the Tower’s Sky Brunch on the 50th Floor.
visited the Philadelphian on Monday and chatted about the project (as a spur goes right in front of our building, under ground) and the new Pop-up beer garden partnership with PHS this summer at 10th and Hamilton Streets.
Powers Park
From the press release: This innovative reuse of outdoor space invites people to experience an old Philadelphia tradition in the parks,
harkening back to the mid-19th century when German immigrants brought
‘biergartens’ to Philadelphians. The Mobile Food and Beverage Garden
program revives the old tradition with an original 21st century twist,
offering families throughout the City the opportunity to experience a
nearby food and beverage garden with their
friends and neighbors. Patrons and visitors alike will have a chance to
celebrate Philadelphia’s rich culture, history and beautiful parks while celebrating the city’s burgeoning status as a global food and beverage destination.
Congrats to Alex and Joey Conicella on their move to Dallas
Congrats to Christie Honigman who’s transformed her life
