A Weekend Escape: Seaview, A Dolce Hotel near AC

I’ve passed the Seaview Dolce Hotel a million times over the years as I’ve traveled to the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge just up the street, or gone shopping at my cousins nautical store down the street, the Seafarer. I’ve always wondered what it would be like to stay there and this past weekend I had a chance to experience it and the wonderful service they provide.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think my first time at this glorious resort would be during the middle of a pandemic, but here we are and it’s great to be able to get away to a place which takes it serious, and where you will feel safe, even normal again. This is the front desk, normally there’s people staffing it with masks on, but for the photo I wanted a clean shot. As you see there is socially distancing markers on the floor, and the desk is protected by safety glass. Check in was a breeze. We were in Room 258. We took the elevator with our bags, but used the stairs (see on right) for most of our trip to help burn off our Quarantine 15 lbs.

They had me masks and plexiglass, but I fell hard when I saw the TV remote wrapped in plastic. They take disinfecting to a new level of comfort.

The bedroom was beautifully decorated, and had chairs which you know I desire. I love to just sit in a chair all night reading, watching TV and enjoying time away from home. Mike does as well, and I caught him catching some zzzz’s within moments of arriving. The next day I took the center photo and tweeted about the lovely view and how I didn’t want to get out of bed, they’re so firm, yet comfortable. If we hadn’t just bought a Purple bed, I’d be label searching to see what Seaview used. I immediately sketched out the room in my head and said how can I create this at home.

Seaview’s has a beautiful and spacious outdoor pool area surrounded by lush landscaping. The chairs are socially distant, and only 40 people are allowed in the pool area at a time. Which isn’t a problem as the hotel is operating at half capacity during the pandemic. The four-story hotel will only use its first and second floors so guests not wishing to use the elevators
can stay on the first floor or ascend only one flight of stairs as well.

For more than a century, Seaview has reigned as the Jersey Shore’s most iconic resort. The pristine 670- acre retreat blends the architectural beauty and historic charm of a turn-of-the-century resort with the services, style and amenities today’s travelers and meeting planners desire, including state-of-the-art meeting and event space, award-winning dining, and two championship golf courses — The Bay Course, opened in 1914 and The Pines Course, opened in 1929. – from the website. The property is gorgeous, and there’s a mile long walking path along the golf course. There’s also a 9 hole family fun golf course near the hotel for the kids to practice on before the hit the big links. It’s called the Turtle Course as sometimes turtles can be found taking a short cut through it on the way to the sea.

Since I don’t play golf, but love watching golfers, I headed to the golf cafe both days to watch the action before it got too hot for me. July has you might have read has broken records for it’s 90f plus days this year, we’ll just call it the 2020 factor. Each table has an umbrella so if it gets to hot you can have your waiter open it.

The sunset over the bay was beautiful while dining, that’s Reed’s Bay in the distance there, you can see it from the patio and from the front facing hotel rooms. The cobb salad and steak was delicious. The following day I had the One Handed Burger at the recommendation of James Zeleniak of Punch Media pr.

Speaking of the front of the Seaview hotel. Theses comfortable adirondack chairs pepper the spacious property. I love sitting in these chairs. I can’t wait to go back and just sit in one of these chairs all day. I was in and out a lot over the weekend as you know my family is staying in Longport and my other sister is in Stone Harbor. Next time I go to the Seaview I’ll be staying put. I bet it’s great in the Fall. Mike and I loved everything about it. The ambiance, the classical architecture, the pool area, the dogs, did I mention it’s dog friendly.

Photo from Website

Adding to its copious outdoor space, Seaview made upgrades to its wisteria-clad pavilion, complete with a state-of-the-art outdoor kitchen and new lighting, creating the perfect space for airy functions, clambakes and other activities. Both days I was staying there families were holding functions. It was so nice they could still get together, safely outside.

The Seaview hotel was a nice alternative to staying on a barrier island. It was lush, green, the building was beautiful as were the rooms. It was easy to navigate and find all the amenities, including tennis and basketball courts. Additionally, Seaview is adding a horseshoe pit and shuffleboard court, for additional outdoor fun to its al fresco activity offerings such as corn hole on the expansive front lawn.

“In light of everything that’s going on in the world, people want to be outside,” said Director of Sales and
Marketing, Mike Tidwell. “We wanted to enhance activities on our sprawling grounds for additional
outdoor fun this season and beyond.”

It was comforting to know that the Seaview took Covid19 serious:
• All employees received COVID-19 safety sanitation protocol training, and employees will follow Personal Protective Equipment recommendations from the CDC.
• Public spaces and communal areas will be cleaned and disinfected multiple times per day, with an
emphasis on hard non-porous surfaces.

It’s great that it’s not too far from the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge See the water tower, that’s Seaview. Plus it’s just minutes from Atlantic City and my sisters house in Longport (about 20 minutes from her.)

This & That: Rittenhouse Square Opened, New Biz Too

Hope you had a great weekend. Last week I strolled through Rittenhouse Square and reported on a lot of sad news about businesses closing, stores paused, a few still boarded and some who have opened. The first exciting news is: Square 1682, the modern American kitchen located at the intersection of 17 th and Sansom streets by Rittenhouse Square in the Palomar Hotel, has re-opened for take-out as well as  outdoor dining on the patio seating area.
Lunch is 12 – 4 pm, followed by dinner from 4 – 8 pm daily. Guests can enjoy dishes tried, true, and even some new from the freshly updated Square 1682 menu – Select known favorite dishes have returned, such as the  Waffle Fries served with malt vinegar and chipotle ranch ($10), the delectable  Warm Cornbread accompanied by honey butter ($5) to start, or the revered Cauliflower  Curry entrée, with chickpeas, spinach, and madras curry ($24). Newer additions to the menu include a sumptuous  Softshell Crab Sandwich with jalapeno tartar sauce ($16), and Tagliatelle served with Jersey vegetables, pistachio pesto and pecorino ($13/serving, $25/family style).

Also nearby stores like Vince, Gap, The Loft and Govberg’s are open as I mentioned last week. I did another walk through at the end of the week and saw many more stores open and even more who have taken the boards off, which is nice and inviting.

Both Lululemon and Athleta are now open and excited to welcome you back to the 1700 block of Walnut Street. As you know Intermix has closed, but I found out it closed a few days before the pandemic, so we can’t count that as a business lost to Covid19. GM Danielle Kane wishes it worked out, sends her love and thanks.

New Business The previously announced allbirds, which took over the space formally occupied by Timberland at 1709 Walnut St, is being stocked and is ready to open in the next week.

Feast Well Foods can take a lot of the work out of cooking for you this weekend, especially if you’re headed to the shore.

Delivery
Friday, July 31st 3pm – 5pm
or
Curbside pick-up
Thursday, July 30th 4pm – 5pm
Friday, July 31st 1pm – 5:30pm

The Loft is open now for all your summer fashions, and these days summer goes right into October. Grab a cocktail at a.bar as that is open as well.

The former Zara’s is being reconfigured for Tiffany’s Jewelers which is moving from it’s current location in the Bellevue. It is not open.

The Hyatt Centric near 17th and Walnut Streets is coming along. They’re topped off, windows have been installed and the sign is up. Looks great.

Pietro’s has extended their dining area and it looks good. I spoke with a Madewell associate today and they have no idea when they’re going to open the Walnut Store.

But there’s plenty of other reasons to come down town, it’s bouncing back and there’s a lot of sales to be had.

If you’re going to the Apple store make sure you have an appointment, that is the only way you can enter. Give them a call. When you see me in the streets give a wave to PhillyChitChat. Thanks!!

Tea Time: Sofitel Opening Aug 6, With Afternoon Tea

I took this photo, all others were provided

Good Monday morning, hope you’re all well. I just walked by Sofitel last week and was going to note that after 3 months or so it seems to be preparing to open soon, when Aversa Pr sent over a press release with details of the Sofitel Philadelphia opening.

Sofitel Philadelphia at Rittenhouse Square announced last week that the hotel will reopen its doors to hotel guests and visitors on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 11:00am. The luxury hotel that blends French elegance with American style will reopen for overnight stays for guests in 306 newly renovated elegant suites and 67 newly renovated luxurious suites, plus the stunning Presidential Suite. Banquet facilities will be open for limited private events in accordance with local and state guidelines. Hotel restaurants will remain closed at this time. Sofitel Philadelphia’s top priority remains the safety, care and well being of hotel guests and employees. At this moment, this means keeping guests and employees safe by preventing the spread of COVID-19 by partnering with top experts to implement new standards of safety and enhanced operational protocols and procedures which are among the most stringent in the hospitality industry. As part of the reopening plans, Sofitel Philadelphia is offering guests a buy one, get one free offer for a complimentary night stay with the purchase of an equal night stay.

“We are excited to share that Sofitel Philadelphia is reopening its doors as of August 6th,” said   Sofitel Philadelphia General Manager Angela Bauer. “We’ve missed you all and are thrilled to welcome our friends, family and community back into the hotel. As always, our hotel’s top priority remains the safety, care and well-being of our Sofitel Philadelphia family. Welcoming, safeguarding and taking care of others is at the very heart of what we do and who we are. Today, this means keeping our guests and employees safe by preventing the spread of COVID-19 by partnering with top experts to implement new standards of safety and enhanced operational protocols and procedures which are among the most stringent in the hospitality industry. We have missed being part of the Philadelphia community all of these months and we can’t wait to see you.”

The new operational standards being implemented at Sofitel Philadelphia at Rittenhouse Square and Accor properties across North and Central America were developed and vetted by a team of expert advisors to ensure maximum efficacy in preventing the spread of all viruses and pathogens, including COVID-19, with oversight by Bureau Veritas, a world leader in testing, inspections and certification; Dr. Amesh Adalja, Senior Scholar at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Health Security & fellow with the Infectious Diseases Society of America; and Ruth Petran, Ph.D., CFS, Senior Corporate Scientist, Food Safety and Public Health, for Ecolab, global leaders in cleaning and hygiene, and trusted advisors to the CDC.

All Stay Well Program. Informative info on taking precautions for Covid19

We could all use a little tea time: I was also excited Sofitel Philadelphia was bringing their Afternoon Tea back as well. I’ve been to tea time, and as I’ve written here before I’m a big fan of Tea Sandwiches, scones and tea.

Starting August 1, 2020, Sofitel will be offering afternoon tea  for up to 10 Guests in our Magnifique Presidential Suite.

There are 3 seating’s a day, for up to 10 people $500 plus tax. Now that sounds like a good party. Check out more info here.

Sofitel Philadelphia Opens After 3 Month Closure because of Covid19
Although not every amenity of the hotel will be opening right away, but for the most part, it will be operational on most cylinders. For example, banquet facilities will be open for limited private events in accordance with local and state guidelines, but hotel restaurants will remain closed at this time.
Welcome Back Sofitel Philadelphia

That Time I had an 80s Prom for My Birthday in 2013

It’s my birthday, it’s my birthday today and even though it’s been quite memorable year, one of my favorite celebrations was when I celebrated my birthday in 2013 at the Top of The Tower

with musical guest Jade Starling.

Mike, me, my sister Crista and BIL Michael

Whew. I did skip a few people who had rough divorces and there was no way to crop either one out without leaving an abandoned limb and then there’s who gave me that most interesting blow up gift, I made sure to re gift it to a good home Hop Sing buddy. ** Thanks to my friends, I am so blessed. Looking forward to 2023’s party. Maybe a 90s theme?

This & That: Closed in Rittenhouse Square: 1 Saxbys, 1 Diner, a shoe store and …

Be Patient, Be Kind, Be Safe. We’ll come back strong.

Join nearly 40ks others and follow my blog, subscribe upper left hand corner. It’ll go directly to your email every time I publish. Yesterday I took one of my walks around town which I often have done before Covid19 to see how things have changed. These days it can be heartbreaking as Covid19 has stolen so much from us. I did see parts of the City slowly coming back to life, mostly in the business district on Market Street with people in skirts and suits and ties making their way in the blistering heat. Then I walked over to the shopping district on Chestnut and Walnut Streets and was overwhelmed with sadness, but hope. I’ve walked these streets the past few weeks, and although many are still boarded up, several are no longer boarded, and some are open and waiting for you.

Many restaurants were busy in Rittenhouse Row like Parc, Rouge, Devon, Joe’s Pizza, Pietro’s, a.kitchen, Tria.

An eatery I was so surprised closed was Saxbys 20th and Walnut location, the original Saxbys coffee shop. This was I believe their first location. I spent many of years there when I first started doing PhillyChitChat as a business. I wrote them and this is what they said:
For 10 years our Saxbys at 20th & Walnut served the Rittenhouse community under our mission to Make Life Better.  Unfortunately, as our lease reached its expiration date we were unable to come to a mutually beneficial agreement on renewal terms for a new lease leading to our decision to not reopen our Saxbys Rittenhouse cafe.

The sign on the 18th & Chestnut St door says ‘ we’re closed we miss you already.”

We’re so grateful for the neighbors and relationships we met and nurtured at 20th & Walnut – it’s not goodbye, but see you around –  any Saxbys guest can still visit one of our 4 Saxbys within a ½ mile from our Rittenhouse location when we reopen our other cafes.

Sadly the pandemic has closed the just opened Chestnut Diner at 1614 Chestnut St., next to Dig (the healthy eatery) and Uniqlo (the clothing store which is open). Most people didn’t even know it was there, and for the few who did the reviews weren’t always stellar.

On Walnut Street: Lucky Brand at 1634 Walnut Street has closed as has nearby Cole Haan shoes at 1600 Walnut Street. (I wish the landlords of the closed business’ would remove the boards as the stores are empty. If they’re windowless I’m sure you have insurance to get them fix.)

But brisk business was happening nearby on Rittenhouse Row as Gap, Urban Outfitters, Free People, Vince, Rag & Bone, Govberg Jewelers and Theory were open for business and with air conditioning on full blast. I wanted to linger by Urban Outfitters as they had their doors open.

Stuart Weitzman, 1711 Walnut currently closed (getting mixed answers on this but you can see his blue awning in this shot in the center) but definitely closed is the shoe stores Dr. Martens , and Vans across the street as is nearby clothing store Intermix (they tried hard to stay open they told me). Good news, Bluemercury 1707 Walnut Street (above) opened as soon as it could and has had steady business as has clothing store Scotch & Soda a few doors down. Don’t let the boards scare you, behind them were stores which closed before the Pandemic: Timberland, Zaras, and Talbot’s.

Open on Chestnut Street is the men’s shoe store Blue Sole Shoes, at 1805 Chestnut, Shops of Liberty Place 17th and Chestnut (the Observation Tower is open as well), and a few blocks away Macy’s across from City Hall.

Hats in the Belfry is open but it looks like they’re having a store closing sale at 1824 Chestnut Street .

Next to Hats is Boyd’s and across the street is Joan Shepp’s, both are closed but I hear will open with fall fashion season merchandise by September.

Finally, the Apple Store is open on Walnut Street, but by appointment only. I like how they have a fan by the door keeping the customers cool while they wait. I tried to get a shot of the inside, it was packed. So make that appointment as it’s the hottest store in town. Sorry for the bad news, but I do want you to see that there are stores open, even though we have lost a few friends. See you on Social Media where I post daily two or three times a day. Monday I photographed folks in Center City enduring the heat for CBSPhilly.

This & That: Tinsel Philly & Salty’s Menu, Penns Landing Summer Fest & an Engagement

Shout out to Joe & Karen in Litiz. Thanks for the wonderful afternoon on Sunday. Plus as I’ve been chitchating about recently I appreciate my readers telling me that they get all their chitchat on the blog, as they’re not on SM, (imagine that, my mom too). Karen’s a busy OR nurse, volunteer, raising a family and tells me she only has time to read my blog when it arrives in her email. (BTW you can subscribe too in the top left corner and the blog will be delivered full post in your email) Let’s check out This & That Thursday:
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Midtown Village as Tinsel Philly celebrates Christmas in July starting Friday July 17 at 3pm. Craft Concepts Group — the crew behind spots like Bru, Tradesman’s, Finn McCools and Blume — is converting some of its concepts along 12th Street into a pop-up “Tinsel in July” open-air Christmas bar and restaurant. The outdoor lineup includes Finn McCools and holiday-themed bar Tinsel, along with a 114 S. 12th location the group recently acquired that formerly housed Midtown Restaurant and Penn Six. Go Popcorn, a neighbor to Craft Concepts’ locations, is also participating.

Photo: Aversa Pr

Tinsel in July will strictly follow social distancing guidelines and health restrictions, including requiring masks outside of tables, wiping down all surfaces and using digital QR code menus. He emphasized the pop-up will be available for several weeks, so crowds don’t need to rush to experience it at the same time.

Salty’s Seafood and Ice Cream Shack has popped up in the former Jamonera Restaurant space (which I reported earlier this month had closed for the summer) at 105 south 13th Street in Midtown Village. The beach themed cafe serves lobster rolls, steamers, burgers, and of course ice cream along with wine, beer, and cocktails. Opened Monday-Thursday 4pm-10pm, Friday 2pm-10pm and Saturday-Sunday 12pm-10pm.

Guess what else is popping: Congratulations are in order to Representative Malcolm Kenyatta who popped the question to long time boyfriend Dr. Matthew Jordan Miller last week. Check out this article on the happy day in OUT Magazine.

Looks like the Penns Landing Waterfront is opening up the Blue Cross River Rink area and Spruce Street Harbor. Chef, entrepreneur and owner Charisse McGill who you know from her years at Christmas Village and Philly Made at City Hall has now brought her sweetness to Spruce Street Harbor. French Toast Bites by Lokal Artisan Foods will bring the sugar and spice and everything nice to Spruce Street Harbor Park by Univest for the summer of 2020. On the menu look for French Toast Bites and Vegan French Toast Bites at $8 each, French Toast Milkshakes for $7 each (OMG YES!!), Bacon on a Stick for $5 and other summer-time treats. French Toast Bites will occupy the former pod of HipCityVeg across from the floating Barge in the heart of the boardwalk. Plus check out SummerFest where the Blue Cross River Rink is usually located there is now a beach with socially distant chairs, and Minigolf ($5 per person; $4 per person if you’re an Independence Blue Cross Cardholder) will be available on-site. Equipment will be sanitized regularly. Info to come on the xoxo Ferris wheel located nearby.

Hope you can get away for a little zen, or at least catch a sunrise or sunset this weekend. Be Safe, Be Sane and thanks for visiting. ~ HughE

From The Vault: Four Seasons Celebrates 30 Years

Over the weekend I mentioned that I would be publishing parties previously published in print in Philly Mag which were never online, or listed in a file on my computer I call “Still to Blog.” PhillyChitChat as you know is a for hired party photographer and I create columns for the media. Once in while I have time and I will cover a non-client and I may or may not place the photos in the media, but most likely I’d place them on PhillyChitChat. In really busy times I would place them in a file called “Still To Blog”, and they never get posted. Through out the summer I’ll be posting these photos as well with tidbits and throw back photos of Philly folks.

The Four Seasons Hotel’s 30th Anniversary Party was celebrated at their former flagship location on 9/26/13. (It’s now The Logan Hotel):
The press release:
The Four Seasons Hotel is celebrating its 30th anniversary with an ’80s-themed party in the courtyard . Enjoy food, wine, beer, including an exclusive Dock Street Brewing Company brew and a DJ spinning the hottest ’80s songs.

When: Thursday, September 26, 5-8 p.m.
Where: Four Seasons Hotel, 1 Logan Square
Cost: Tickets are $50 for VIP tickets (three hours of access to the party) and $35 for general admission (one-and-a-half hours of access to the party).

The guest list was chock full of folks in the hospitality field. I remember it was a fun evening, and I loved the 80s theme as I had just celebrated my birthday a few months earlier with an 80s prom theme party. I’ll have those photos next Thursday on the 7th anniversary of my party.

This was a super affordable, fun party, one of which I imagine will be coming back in the new normal.

Speaking of the Four Seasons, welcome back to the new Four Seasons at Comcast Center. Last week they broke the news on their Instagram. Now I realize with the new Instagram it doesn’t always show the photo anymore so you need to click the link to see the photos. Here’s a little of what they wrote.

After months of spreading love from afar, we are thrilled to announce that we will be re-opening our doors on Monday, July 27, 2020. Philly, it’s time to say goodbye to the heart in the sky and hello to our staff and guest’s hearts within ❤️ 📸: @elevated.angles

12 Shady Eateries

Fare in Fairmount where you will dine in the shade of the summer sun

BTW for those who receive the blog in an email form, click the link above to go to the website and see the Instagram posts appear.
Ever since I recovered from Covid19, and was able to meet the take out delivery guy in our condo’s lobby, I’ve been making an effort to support local restaurants, especially the many who have supported me and my business for the past decade. These days with out door dining, I’ve been trying to support as many restuants as possible, but I tend to melt in the sun so shade is really important to me if I dine before 730PM. Here are a few shady ones for dayside dining. The list is not in any particular order.

Just dined here Monday night with Kristin Detterline. The company was fantastic, as was the food and the atmosphere. Parking was fairly easy nearby on the street.

I think everyone knows how much I love Pinefish, but to stay cool while dining there sit on the 12th Street side where it’s a shady for most of the afternoon. If you do prefer to sit on the sunny side of the street, you might want to wear SPF 50 and a sombrero.

Aaah one of the newest eating spots in the City, Juno. So delicious, beautifully decorated, shady with beautiful trees and foliage. A real joy of an evening. The only thing that’s going to make you sweat is too many jalapenos.

Another FCM Hospitality hot spot is everyone’s favorite Morgan’s Pier. I ate there shortly after it opened and was not disappointed. Almost every table has an umbrella, and a fantastic view, but remember if you get up to shoot it, wear your mask.

Another beer garden with shade and delicious food is Independence Beer Garden. Unfortunately there’s no bar games as in years gone by, but there’s a fun atmosphere with socially distant picnic tables. They’re not taking reservations, just walk ins, and there needs to be a table available to enter the space. No standing and no ordering at the bar for now.

Order the Meatball Stromboli it looks delicious ! Outdoor seating available, no reservations necessary! Marisa Magnatta recommends the Purple Haze Frozè and ask about All About The Benjamins Baby!

Royal Boucherie doesn’t open til this weekend, but I can already see the secret garden won’t be a secret for too long, wow it looks fantastic.

The Fitler Club, so delicious. I can’t wait to go back and try the burger. My husband Mike had it and he still raves about it.
~
Welcome to The Garden – a magical garden restaurant tucked into an urban landscape. Join us for lunch, dinner or brunch. Members reserve in the Portal. Non-member walk-ins welcome! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hours (weather permitting):
Lunch:
Monday – Friday, 11:00a-3:00p
.
Dinner:
Monday – Thursday, 5p-8p
Friday & Saturday, 5p-9p
.
Brunch:
Sunday, 11a-3p

I’m fond of Fond all the time, they have beautiful awnings to keep you cool as you dine across the street from the East Passyunk Singing Fountain.

There won’t be an Oktoberfest this year, but you can still sing great German songs while you enjoy your Bavarian feast at Brauhaus Schmitz on South Street in the shade.

Estia, what can I say, the best lamb chops, Estia Chips, tomato salad, delicious, delightful and friendly. I had dinner last week, not only was there a big awning to shade the diners, but Estia had their air condition on full blast with the windows open to cool the curbside diners. OK I lied, this might actually be the winner of the shadiest restaurant in Philly.

This & That: Babies, Bradley Cooper Spotted, Comet NEOWISE

Fireworks over Fairmount 7/11/20

I have to confess Social Media – Instagram, InstaStories, Facebook and Twitter have taken over as my preferred sharing of info, as it has for so many bloggers. It’s easier to do, much faster to get the word out, share news in real time, recommendations, what’s happening in my life and lately movie reviews. A lot of stuff I used to publish on PhillyChitChat blog before Social Media came about. So when it came to writing my blog since the pandemic began, a lot of what I was to say was already said in social media and I got in a rut about what I should publish.

Twisted Tail has a cute little outdoor dining spot at 509 S. 2nd

Every week I receive messages from you, my blog readers, wondering when I am going to publish again. I’m going to recommit to you, again. I know I keep saying that, but I love my blog and perhaps I’ll save good material here as well. I know the one thing that irritates me about Philly Inquirer is reading so many articles online, before I get the actual paper. Why don’t they publish the stories after the Sunday paper comes out. For some reason my subscription is less expensive if I get the Sunday paper and digital. In reality I really only want online. Anyway…

Flannel 1819 E Passyunk Ave

I am also going to start publishing parties I’ve published years ago. Everyone seemed to like my 13 anniversary party post. I love visiting the old photos as well. WOW 13 years chronicling Philly. It went by quick. I realized over the weekend many folks would tell me they don’t see their photos when they appear in Philly Mag, as the photos aren’t online. My contract with them has a 3 month exclusive clause. Meaning the photos can’t appear elsewhere for 3 months. Rarely do I publish them after 3 months as I used to be too busy to do so, and equally rarely do I send or sell my photos. I never wanted to be in that business. Al For, Andre Flewellen and Susan Scovill do a great job with selling their photos of you. You should always support them, and not just screen shot their published photos of you. I like being the media photographer, creating columns for various media outlets.

Don’t feel like cooking this weekend. Let Feast Your Eyes Catering do the cooking for you! Check out the delicious menu and additions.
Feast Well Foods

The former Aramark building at 1101 Market Street is now the Jefferson Center with a brand new entrance. Looks amazing. I used to work in the building during the 90s and the entrance always looked so drab. The lobby on the other hand was amazing, with a beautiful fountain.

A couple times a week I’m going to run This & That columns. It used to be called HughE Around Town, but during the pandemic I don’t run around town as much anymore. I do see lots of fun news, tidbits online as well as readers send me tips. I like these columns. They remind me of the beginning of PhillyChitChat 13 years ago. There wasn’t much happening in Philly then as far as events, but there was always something to gossip about at work. Back then I was still a paralegal, and of course I was always curious about what was happening in town. I was always bringing the news back to work where we would chitchat about it for hours. I realized others might be interested in this Philly Chit Chat as well.

The Unicorn Grand-mom Maureen Sweeney, who picked up this cute costume to hug her grandsons last month which I filmed, made an appearance on Kelly & Ryan on July 3. Check out the clip here. I can’t wait til they return to the studio, they’re so blah from home.

Happy One Month Old to Zoey Amour Long beautiful daughter of Brittney Shipp, NBC10 Meteorologist and Jontue Long, financial advisor

Bradley Cooper waves to the crowd at the Prince Theater on Sept. 12, 2018

I had two Bradley Cooper sightings in our area last weekend. One in Ocean City, where he’s been spotted before, and one in Longport, perhaps grabbing take out from Cookie’s & Steve’s another favorite spot of his. Cooper’s mom Gloria, has a home in Brigantine according to the Inquirer, although don’t camp out there this summer as it’s been reported the Hollywood heartthrob is renting in Fairfield Connecticut this summer. Bradley Cooper was recently spotted with another man about town, Leonardo DiCaprio on a boat cruising Long Island Sound in June.

Philadelphia looked to the sky last year when a total lunar eclipse occurred on January 21, 2019. For the rest of July we should be looking skyward again as the newly discovered comet Comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) which has been putting on a grand show at dawn this past week. It’s very far to the north on the sky’s dome, becoming visible now (with optical aid) to observers in the northern U.S. and Canada in the early evening skies as well. Writers for Space.com said the best evening viewing will occur about 80 minutes after sunset in the July 14 to July 19 time frame. By July 19, the comet will appear about 20 degrees from the horizon and will be in the northwest horizon. Check out more info HERE. Philly don’t let me down, start posting those photos. #phillyneowise
