Signs, Signs Everywhere There’s Signs at The Philly Women’s March 2020

Despite another year of inclement weather, the women in our region gathered to march for rights they should have gotten years ago: equal pay, respect and anything else they damn please.

People who weren’t in attendance question the number of people who were there, specifically the word thousands. I was there and there were thousands. As someone who covers events for a living from 25 people to thousands, there were thousands of people there. The March kicked off at 10am, and folks walked about .6 miles. This photo was taken at 10:09am at 21st and the Parkway. The last people arrived at Eakins Oval at 10:35. Not all photos that you looked at from the comfort of your passive chair tells the truth of how many folks march. Plus a lot of folks did not stay to hear the speeches, including me. It was cold, snowing and a Saturday.

Young Professionals of The Barnes ‘Power Patterns” Fashion

The Barnes Foundation’s Young Professionals Night with a ‘Power Patterns” theme took place on Friday, January 10, 2020 at the museum located along the Ben Franklin Parkway.

Young creatives enjoyed live music and the Barnes latest exhibit “30 Americans”, which closed last weekend.

As most of you know I had the Flu/Cold/WTH is this for nearly a month. There were a few parties I covered but they never made PCC because I stopped posting when I got sick in December. Over the next few weeks I will be posting them including the Best of 2019 and the Best of the Decade which I never got to. First up was this fabulous party at Mary Dougherty’s Nicole Miller Philadelphia boutique in Manayunk on December 19, 2019.

The Last Christmas Party

Christmas seems to finally be over, although I did notice that the Fairmount neighborhood still have their trees lit (one at the beginning of Fairmount Street at Kelly Drive and at Broad Street.) Recently I attended the last Christmas party of the season, which is always held after the new year when things settle down.

Pat welcomes her guests to her beautifully decorated home with Christmas trees in every room.

Pat always has the most incredible spread of goodies, with her very popular Red Velvet Cake taking center stage

And before you knew it, Christmas was over. Can we start Christmas in October next year.

Colin Jost Officiated A Wedding in Philly and Scarlett Johansson Was There

Seems Philly has more than just a Tina Fey connection to Saturday Night Live. Emmy Award Winning SNL Producer, Erin Doyle who hails from the Philadelphia area and on Saturday Night she married the love of her life Sam Shechtman, who has ties to Philly as well having worked at PWC and the Sixers. Friends tell me they met in Philly as well.

A lot of SNL Folks were in attendance including Ken Tola, Co head writer SNL, cast members Aidy Bryant, Ego Nwodim, Michael Che and Beck Bennett; as well as actors Ben Sinclair, known for High Maintenance and popular personality Shep Rose of ‘Southern Charm’ .

Recently Shep Rose was in the news when Vanderpump Rules couple Jax Taylor & Brittany Cartwright told Andy Cohen that Shep Rose was their worst wedding guest because he did social media at their wedding sharing stories and photos on his instagram in real time. Thankfully Shep hasn’t curb his insatiable need to share those special moments and last night he did just that at Erin and Sam’s wedding… (Thanks to my tipster that gave me the heads up in the middle of the night. Yes I got out of bed and put this story together at 3am.)

Shep Rose posted an Instastory about SNL fave Colin Jost officiating at Erin and Sam’s wedding at the Crystal Tea Room. Seems Colin also did a 15 minute stand up of the couple.

Erin, Colin and Shep go way back as friends. In another Andy Cohen interview, Colin revealed he and Shep bonded over surfing and became fast friends. Colin was already good friends with Erin and three friends would vacation together over the years.

Other notable guests who attended the wedding included actress Gina Gershon, comedian Peggy “Aunt Peggy” O’Leary, Joey Selden, Schuyler Sutton , Kiera Chambers and yes Scarlett Johansson was there celebrating alongside the Doyle/Chambers family. Friends tell me Scarlett was super nice, smiled the whole time, danced with Colin and interacted with guests. Guests dined on short rib, risotto, chicken stuffed with spinach and enjoyed a delicious wedding cake by Termini Brothers Bakery with vanilla icing and rainbow jimmies.

The band was Chevy Chevis Entertainment. If that sounds familiar, you might recall it was the same band who entertained at former SNL cast member Bill Murray’s son Luke Murray’s wedding to Kara Cassidy, who’s dad worked for the Sixers at the time, a time when the groom Sam Shechtman did as well. (A story I broke as well as Bill Murray skipped the Emmy’s to attend his son’s wedding.)

Or maybe Bill Murray made the suggestion to Erin directly.

Oh one last thing, here’s Erin with baby Doyle Shechtman back in November. The sheet to the left has info on the 11/16/19 show starring Harry Styles. Interesting enough, the SNL re-run on Saturday night, during the #Shechtmate wedding was indeed this same show. Coincidence? Ironically today, Philly Style Magazine hosted their wedding show at Finley Caterers Crystal Tea Room. I was impressed how quickly they turned the room around as I know the wedding didn’t end til 2am. For more Wedding photos check out

Kendall Jenner Update; Kate Winslet Films; Lilliputian Wawa To Open w/Freebies

Hi it’s Thursday, and on Thursday I like to chitchat about what’s happening around Philly. Lots, we’re a bustling City for sure. Hope your week is going well so far.

After winning against Oklahoma on Monday, Bendall and friends headed to Harp & Crown’s Elbow Lane, which is a lounge in the basement which has two bowling lanes.

  • Is this Kate Winslet? I believe this is the director. He only came out three times to escort this women in, and to check the scrim lighting.
Yesterday I headed out to Aston Pa to see if I could get a few shots of the HBO series “Mare of Easttown” filming. (I’ve written a lot about other people spotting her, Evan Peters or the film set, but I hadn’t had a chance to check it out myself. Thanks to a tipster who informed me last week I cleared my schedule to spend some time with the cast & crew. I really didn’t see a lot as they filmed inside, and around the back. The scrim, which you can see on the right side of some of the photos, was used to make the background bright as if it were constant daylight for the scene. For most of the day it was sunny, but these freak Snow Squalls would roll through every once in awhile. We don’t usually get these in Philly, as they are lake affect snow from the Great Lakes, but it was very windy yesterday so they were carried the hundreds of miles to our fair City.
Bradley Cooper celebrated his birthday at the Four Seasons Jean George, then headed to the Eagles game with a couple of friends. Unfortunately he forgot our good luck charm, daughter Lea, and we lost. The caricature is from The Palm on Broad Street.
The tiniest Wawa is opening tomorrow on 16th Street

In October 2018, I broke the story that Wawa was going to open near 16th and Chestnut Streets, and April 2019 they officially announced it – a mini Wawa, or as I like to call it a grab & go Wawa will include a walk-up window (l) where customers can pick up orders they’ve placed ahead of time via Wawa’s mobile app. The menu will still include sandwiches, and drinks so it’ll be interested to see how it handles foot traffic in such a confined space.

The hours are 6am to 10pm daily. On Friday at 8 a.m. the first 100 customers through the door will receive a T-Shirt and free coffee. Then the official ribbon cutting ceremony will be at 10 a.m., with city officials and community leaders in attendance. Did You Know City Hall Hosts Inaugural Parties During the Day

Monday morning the Mayor was sworn in for his second term as Mayor of Philadelphia. He was joined by City Council members, judges, the City Commissioner, the Sheriff, and the Register of Wills who were also installed at this ceremony.

At night there’s usually a party, but this year Mayor Kenney did something special, the Mayor held a free ticketed concert, hosted by Patty Jackson and Jerry Blavat, as a thank you to Philadelphia residents and supporters of his administration at The Met, 858 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA. I didn’t attend either of these events as you know I am still recovering from the Flu and it would have been more difficult for me to capture the photos I wanted for my March Philly Mag column.

I had a feeling there would be City Council parties at City Hall, which usually happens the day of the swearing in, and I was right. These shots are so much easier to get, as I can pose folks and they’re not going to be rushing to get the best seats for the “show”. I’ve saved about a dozen photos for my March Philly Mag column.

Open Call For Entertainers for Center City Parks This Year

PHILADELPHIA (January 7, 2020): The Center City District seeks to commission local musicians, DJs and crafters to participate in various public programs at Dilworth Park and Sister Cities Park throughout 2020. Applications will be accepted until January 31 at 3 p.m.

Potential opportunities include:

Summer:

–       PNC presents Live @ Lunch (Dilworth Park, Wednesdays & Thursdays, Noon-1:30 p.m.)

o    Small bands or solo performers, preferably jazz, R&B and singer-songwriter genres 

–       SIPS (Dilworth Park, Wednesdays, 5 p.m.-8 p.m.)

o    DJs

–       Friday Night Live (Dilworth Park, Fridays, 5 p.m.-8 p.m.)

Photos: Stove and Tap Opens in Malvern; The food was delicious!!

Stove and Tap Opens in Malvern, the new restaurant at 245 Lancaster Ave. in Malvern, Chester County, opened its doors on Thursday, Dec. 19. Stove & Tap Malvern from Stove and Co. Restaurant Group, which also owns The Bercy in Ardmore and Al Pastor in Exton, has been a work-in-progress since August 2018. The restaurant was set to open earlier this year, but then a paving truck lost its brakes in the parking lot and rolled through the new location’s front wall.

The new Stove & Tap in Malvern is a sprawling 7,500-square-foot space. There are 50 state flags on the walls picked up at various vintage shops.

The Stove and Tap “Tappy Hour” runs from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The wings were so amazing, they’d be worth the trip from Center City just to enjoy, but get the Brisket Mac N’ Cheese and you’ll keep going back. I asked Justin if there was a Stove & Tap in Philly’s future and unfortunately there’s not. If you want the Mac N Cheese you’ll have to go out to Malvern Stove & Tap, dang, harsh.

Whole Foods On Broad? Kendall Jenner & Ben Simmons Spotted

Last summer I wrote about the Bellevue undergoing changes starting with Mary Dougherty’s Nicole Miller store closing that location. (Story)

Which would lead to more stores closing at the location so they could renovate the lobby a source at Starbucks told me. It seems Nightingale Properties, the new owners, would like to return the hotel back to a hotel with a grand bar/sitting area in the lobby. Philly is a hot spot now, and we need hotel rooms so it’s not a bad idea. Unfortunately some of our favorite spots are going to have to move to make room for the new lobby like the recently announced Tiffany’s Jewelers which is moving to the old Zara location (PBJ), which I hear the owners want to be a hot spot like the Ritz Carlton down the street. Have you been there lately, it really is a hot spot now.

When I first wrote about the lobby changes last summer, I noted that the food court was often closed most days. I had heard rumors that the salon located in the basement, might move to the first floor where the Polo Shop was located, but vacated so many years ago.

I think it’s fair to say that they’re definitely going somewhere as Tavern on Broad closed last Wednesday. The employees found out on Monday that New Year’s Eve would be their last day of work. A fairly tight group, they were heartbroken. I hear the owner is looking for a new spot in town so stay tuned. Rumor has it the food court area is to become a Whole Foods. Great spot for a supermarket as there are no big food markets in Center City Proper, but could we get a Wegman’s instead, there’s already a great Whole Foods in the Art Museum area, and on South Street. A guy could dream though.

Kendall Jenner and Ben Simmons are definitely back on, as I first reported 12/14/19. This past week they shopped a lot in South Jersey, near Ben’s new home in Moorestown. Then over the weekend they were spotted at Federal Donuts, and on Saturday night at Davio’s in Center City (as seen in this photo I found on a BENDALL sight.) If it’s your photo I’ll be happy to give you credit, and I’d love to hear more details. Crossing fingers that the Sixers win tonight. I hate when Kendall gets the blame for their loss. LQQK for Bradley Cooper to be at today’s Eagles game. He grabbed brunch at the Four Seasons before heading out to the tail gate parties around 2pm. Happy Chit Chat see you tomorrow.
