Hello ChitChatters, hope you had a good weekend. Oh my gosh, business is bounding back and I’m kinda prepared. What did I do that whole year, my office is still a mess and my camera needs to be cleaned. I had a great weekend, I photographed the opening of the most adorable hotel in Wildwood, you’re going to love it. I’ll write about my visit this week. Today I am going to review some of the events I covered this past week but haven’t posted about them here yet.
The Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest opened earlier this month along with an exciting program of appropriately-sized performances, events and exhibits at the year-round Cherry Street Pier. Wednesday Spruce Street Harbor park re opens with some exciting new food offerings. The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC) is excited to welcome visitors back with continued socially distanced beer gardens and safe take-away food options, sit-down reservations compliant with current outdoor dining regulations, and additional measures in place to ensure that visitors can take advantage of the Summer and enjoy all that the Waterfront has to offer, comfortably and safely, from Washington Pier all the way to Race Street Pier. A perfect way to kick off summer in Philly Memorial Day Weekend. Spotted at the Blue Cross RiverRink on the Ferris Wheel Sunday night was Calum Hood, famed band member of 5SOS, no word on why he is here, but a few years back he did tweet that “Philly has pretty girls.” Anyone else see him, is he dating one of our pretty girls?
Speaking of Spruce Street Park and Cherry Street PierCharisse McGill and Lokal Artisan Foods, who serves her famous French Toast bites at both places, recently launched a new French Toast Bites Ale – a smooth and malty collab with Yards Brewing Company. Folks at the launch party told me it was so delicious, you could even smell the maple syrup before the first sip. Could it be the next Mimosa. Charisse tells me that not only can you get it at Summerfest but local Acme’s carry it as well. It’s about $13 for a 4 pack.

Earlier this year, the announcement of the launch of the Pau Hana Tiki Boat Tours set the internet on fire. Last week the Somers Point/Ocean City based company held their official launch voyage, offering boat rides, beginning at two-hours long, for up to six guests. Pau Hana is a Hawaiian phrase meaning “the time after work.” The boats will be available for sunset cruises, as well as at sunrise and in the afternoon. Guests will have the option to play their own music and bring their own food and beverages. Later on, catering packages with local food partners will be available, too.
I really appreciate the green leafy “ribbon” for the official ceremony.
At Element Philadelphia, guests will be energized with a food and beverage program that prioritizes fresh, healthy ingredients. A complimentary Rise breakfast starts the day and the Relax evening reception invites guests to unwind together in the Sky Lobby. Balanced grab-and-go meals, snacks and beverages are available from the Restore gourmet pantry, which features products from local producers. In addition, guests are invited to eat well from the comfort of their own room. With kitchens stocked with everything needed to create a home-cooked meal, Element hopes to inspire guests by introducing local culinary and nutritional voices to provide easy-to-follow recipes. These digital recipes and meal ideas, which will be accessible via in-room QR codes and in pre-arrival emails, will feature fresh, local ingredients that can be picked up at iconic neighborhood markets such as Di Bruno Brothers and Reading Terminal Market.
The Element hotel at 1441 Chestnut St. opened on last Friday, adding 460 rooms to the Center City market as Philadelphia heads into what tourism and city officials have called a summer comeback. It’s a beautiful hotel, with views of the City worth the budgeted price it cost to stay there. The rooms are spacious and have kitchenettes. The gym is well equipped and even I was inspired to start working out again. Gotta lose those pandemic pounds. It was so nice to see old friends, and business folks again. There’s a business center, a grab & go market. Head to their press release to really appreciate what they have to offer. We are truly on the way back. Chit Chat with you tomorrow.
Restaurant veteran Anthony DePaul (center on left) recently opened his latest concept on the Main Line, DePaul’s Table: Modern Italian Steakhouse at 7 E. Lancaster Ave., earlier this month. Jose Galicia (center on right) is leading the DePaul’s Table kitchen as executive chef, with menu items featuring two dishes I had: filet Mignon, seared diver scallops, (worth the trip) and sesame-crusted ahi tuna, and the cheesiest onion soup.
DePaul’s Table is in a historic 10,000-square-foot space which dates back to the early 1900s and once housed Haverford Trust Bank. There are 190 seats inside on two levels, including a 40-seat bar. Did I mention there’s a Happy Hour daily, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., look for filet tips, flatbreads, oysters Rockefeller, salmon nachos and more, starting at $5 and up.
Avram Hornik, FCM Hospitality, Philly’s prolific restaurateur behind Morgan’s Pier, Juno and Harper’s Garden held a preview dinner for his much anticipated Main Line eatery Lola’s Garden at Suburban Square on April 14, 2021, which opened the following day.
For Hornik, this brings his relationship and history with Ardmore and the Main Line full circle as he used to shop at this location when it was a Banana Republic years ago. In fact he’s painted a giraffe near the entrance of the restaurant to remind him of his days shopping there.
Opening in the red hot Ardmore restaurant scene, Lola’s will showcase the culinary skills of acclaimed former Russet Chef Andrew Wood. The seasonal menus will showcase uniquely paired, honest, local ingredients together with small bites, salads, sandwiches, entrees and desserts that showcase his culinary skills and artistry with a focus on not more than a handful of ingredients on the plate. Ardmore’s newest restaurant boasts a 1,800-square-foot restaurant (with a 2,500-square-foot outdoor patio) for guests to enjoy. , At the bar, look for a celebration of all things Pennsylvania with 15 all local and state beers on tap, and an entire wine program with taps and bottles showcasing the states best selections.
The invitation for the Grand Opening Preview of Lola’s Garden in Ardmore stated dress for a garden party, no one took it more seriously than Michelle “The Hat Lady” Leonard. She was dressed head to toe in green, and carried the cutest water bucket as part of her whimsical outfit.

Bridget Foy and husband Paul Rodriguez, along with parents John and Bernadette Foy, announces the grand opening of the brand new Bridget Foy’s at 200 South Street this Friday, February 12th at 4:00pm. Bridget Foy’s is one of Philadelphia and South Streets most beloved restaurants that has served the community for decades since the 1970s. The entire restaurant was lost in 2017 during a devastating fire. After three years of demolition, construction, design, pandemic delays, two COVID shut-downs, a giant snow storm, a East Philly Café Pop-up and limited dining capacity, Bridget Foy’s is finally ready to return and make its grand debut overlooking one of Philadelphia’s most picturesque corners.

The new dining room and bar features a show-stopping gold tin ceiling, striking wood and tiled floors, socially distanced seating, 16 oversized windows and doors opening to the sidewalk, advanced ventilation, artwork by Bernadette and Paul, and other touches of nostalgia and Americana with a light, modern and airy twist.
Outside, look for more outdoor seating than ever before with a patio cafe featuring their first-ever outside bar and service window, state-of-the-art outdoor covered heating space, plus sidewalk seating on the front of the building, with room for more along 2nd Street in nice weather.

At the bar, look for cocktails that play a riff on the classics, plus a robust, accessible and affordable selection of wines. It’s going to be a hard sell to find anyone who hates Steven Singer (l) this year, yes that guy from Steven Singer Jewelers, at 8th and Walnut Street. In 2020 he spent a good part of the year giving back, especially to Frontline Health Care Works, making their day a little easier and a lot more delicious.
The man that everyone loves to hate is spreading love by using a portion of sales from Singer‘s famous 24 karat gold and platinum dipped roses to purchase meals from Philadelphia restaurants and donating them to essential hospital workers and first responders. Last spring he donated dinner for several hospitals on Mother’s Day, last month he fed the day and night shifts at Pennsylvania Hospital, and later this week on Christmas he will be doing the same for another local hospital. For owner Steven Singer, this is a win-win that thanks those tirelessly working to treat Coronavirus patients, and to support an industry in crisis during these unprecedented times.
After being closed for several months earlier this year due to the mandated shut-down, the expert jewelers are back at 8th and Walnut for the gift giving season. They are seeing and can talk about what is popular this year – including the big sellers like the gold dipped roses that help feed hospital workers and support local restaurants; the big boom for Christmas proposals and engagement rings; gifts for those working from home during the pandemic; gifts for those far away; and gifts for pet lovers whose four-legged friends helped them get through 2020.
Steven Singer Jewelers is donating a portion of proceeds from the sale of his famous 24 karat gold and platinum dipped roses to thank frontline essential hospital workers and first responders – and at the same time support local, independent restaurants during a crisis for their industry.
There are currently fifteen selections to pick from for collectors of the famous Steven Singer roses, including:
* Valentine’s Day Red 24k * Classic Gold 24k * Classic Rose Gold* Frozen Rose Gold* Purple Passion 24k * Platinum Baby Blue * Black Diamond 24k * Platinum Purple Passion * Royal Sapphire 24k * Platinum Princess Pink * Platinum Royal Sapphire * Sweetheart Pink 24k * Platinum Valentine’s Day Red* Classic Platinum * Platinum Black Diamond
The famed roses are 12 inches in length, and are made from real roses preserved and then dipped and trimmed in 24 karat gold or platinum. Each rose is handcrafted by artisans, so just like snowflakes, each rose is one-of-a-kind. The roses start at $59.95 and feature a lifetime guarantee.

For this special delivery, there is extra meaning as Singer recently underwent open heart surgery at the Hospital and wanted to bring some thanks to the employees working so hard and putting their own lives at risk. While he was in the hospital several times, he left the ICU and is recovering, but many COVID and other patients won’t this holiday.
The meals, prepared by Manny’s Restaurant and Delicatessen in Southampton, Bucks County, were sent over by jeweler Steven Singer. He was unable to be there in-person after undergoing open-heart surgery at Pennsylvania, where he says he received top-notch care.
Christine Tierney, Chief Human Resources Officer – Pennsylvania Hospital thanks Steven Singer representative for the delicious gesture, as Frank Anastasi, MBA, Chief Financial Officer at Pennsylvania Hospital University of Pennsylvania Health System and staff look on. This special feast for hospital workers is Singers’ way of giving back and part of his pledge to donate a portion from every gold dipped rose to help feed front line workers – while supporting local restaurants in crisis from the global pandemic. For this feast, Singer purchased each and every dinner from Manny’s Catering in Bucks County/ Southampton.
“My heart breaks for the world! It breaks for those who have lost loved ones, those who are ill, small businesses and independent restaurants and everyone effected by this ugly virus, and that is everyone.” – Steven Singer. “We want to be there to support our local community now and long-term. These hospital workers put themselves at risk each and every day, and have to deal with things that are unimaginable to the rest of us. On this unique holiday with numbers soaring, we wanted to support them and say thanks – and let them know we are all with them.”
Singer and his team provided 650+ meals to employees giving up their holiday to serve patients with COVID 19, those in the ICU and other areas of the hospital. They enjoyed individually wrapped, free catered turkey dinners with all the trimmings and pumpkin pie.
