WDAS Women of Excellence and Eye Popping Fashion

Hello my friends. I am slowly catching up, and you will see your photo/event soon. Life is great. I’m having a good time looking for my balance. Check out this fun event I covered over the weekend.

A sold out, fashionable, excited to be together once again group of women came out for the The 6th annual WDAS-FM Women of Excellence Luncheon, Saturday April 9th at Live! Hotel & Casino (900 Packer Avenue, Philadelphia).

There was shopping, and networking. Mingling and catching up. The ladies brought the fashion, and it was beautiful!!

These two got a kick out of twining, they didnt know each other but loved one anothers taste.

Award-winning actress, singer, author, and activist Sheryl Lee Ralph received the inaugural “WDAS-FM 2022 Women of Excellence Legend Award.” Ms. Ralph is married to Sen. Vincent Hughes, 7th Senatorial District in Pennsylvania and splits her time between Philadelphia and LA, where she is currently starring in the hit TV series Abbott Elementary. Her speech to the audience touched on many issues, stressing that women do not have to settle with what society tells them to accept. Strive for your excellence!! Also “you are in control of your health”, now more than ever the doctors aren’t as concerned. You can eat healthy, you don’t have to accept diabetes as a way of life. Exercise, etc. Live longer. She also said bad things happen, life is sometimes troubled, things don’t always go your way, but it’s how you react to it. She just continues to be positive and doesn’t react to negative situation – I hear you girl, she’s speaking to me too. I’m so happy for my friend, and her huge success. So glad to have gotten to know her over the past decade.

2022 Trailblazing Woman of Excellence recipient, the phenomenal Dr. Ala Stanford, founder of REAL Concierge Medicine and The Black Doctor’s COVID-19 Consortium. Dr. Stanford spoke about health inequities, and how she took things into her own hands to correct the imbalance. She was qualified as she had a proven record of providing medical care through her career. There are no shortcuts, and it gave her the foundation to which she was able to use it to save lives. She thanked her team, many who worked without pay as they worked feverishly to get people tested, then vaccinated. –

A true shero in every sense of the word!!

Legacy Gala – Celebrating Maestro Scaglione’s 25th Anniversary

For more than 80 years, Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Music Institute has been home to Philadelphia’s most esteemed musical training for young musicians. Continuing the Institute’s legacy of great leadership, Maestro Louis Scaglione has dedicated 25 years of service to expand PYO Music Institute’s programs and reach hundreds of students each year.

The Legacy Gala is a black-tie evening with 250 people celebrating the 25 th
Anniversary of Maestro Louis Scaglione with an art show and sale by Studio
Incamminati in the Union League’s Library Lounge and Lincoln Memorial, in the
ballroom for ceremonial presentations, 110 outstanding student musicians
playing with Concertmaster David Kim, fabulous food and dancing to the Eddie
Bruce Orchestra. Special Guests include City Representative Sheila Hess, City
Council members David Oh and Helen Gym and city and cultural arts leaders.

The evening started out with a Reception and Art Show and Sale by Studio Incamminati. The art created during the reception was then auction off with the proceeds split between the art studio and PYO.
Studio Incamminati is a nonprofit art school for Contemporary Realist Art in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was founded by the world renowned portrait painter Nelson Shanks in 2002

Arthaus : Sip. Shop. Savor. Boyd’s Pop Up Spring Fashion Show

Carl Dranoff, CEO of Dranoff Properties, in one of the sample units at Arthaus, a luxury condo building in Center City is located along the famed Avenue of the Arts directly across the street from the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.

Arthaus and Boyd‘s partnered together to accessorize the home with clothing and compliments to complete the look of a lived in home. A reception was held to showcase the newly finished units, accessories and the nearly finished luxurious residential apartment building.

Designed by internationally acclaimed architect A. Eugene Kohn , the residential building contains 108 condominiums in the 47-story, 524-foot-high tower and will be the tallest building on Broad Street.

Vernon recently launched a Street Photography program called “Shoot Cameras, Not Guns”

Vernon Ray had an epiphany after attending his younger cousin’s funeral. Seeing a young man lose his life, not much older than Ray’s son, it was time to give back to the community.

Ray launched Shoot Cameras, Not Guns, a program through his photography studio to teach children, teens, and even adults photography as an alternative to getting involved in street life.

“I called my brother, and I say, ‘Yo man, we got to do something man,’” Ray said. “Just like that, I just blurted out ‘shoot cameras not guns.’” according to the Philadelphia Tribune.

This season, Latin American Chef Jose Garces hosts emerging, minority chefs from around the Philadelphia region for six-week residencies. Chef Jezabel Careaga is an entrepreneur, chef, woodworker, designer, and community leader from Palpalá, Jujuy, NW Argentina. In addition to her degree in Tourism & Hotel Management focusing on international languages and business, she received a progressive education encompassing climate change, sustainability, and mental health – issues that she cares about deeply today.

Frame – A Welcomed Vibe in Old City

Just opened in Old City the new restaurant Frame at 222 Market Street. When you first see the facade of the building it reminds you of an exclusive lounge with it’s wooden frame and large curtained window. Step inside and that vibe continues; but you’ll discover it’s really a restaurant with next level dishes and innovated cocktails with it’s tabled booths, four tops, two tops, but still maintains an intimate vibe with it’s purple hue and exposed brick walls.

with a global fusion of flavors and influences says executive chef and Philadelphia local, Brianna Wellmon who brings her love of global cuisine and artistic presentation to the Frame menu. From “adults only” versions of foods you loved like PB&J, berbere-spiced filet mignon served in a jus of sherry and caramelized onion, and numerous vegan and gluten-free options like stuffed mushroom, a tofu dish that is a vegan spin on beef with broccoli. Most days Frame opens for dinner at 4:30pm, on Sunday’s at Noon. Frame’s late-night menu, kicks in at 10 p.m. Thursday to Saturday as the DJs start spinning.

“Frame reflects a sense of consistent change, reminiscent of the evolving city and people of Philadelphia,” said designer Jeff Low, “the intentional design reminds us that change is inevitable, how we frame ourselves and experiences is ever-changing, and that growth is meant to be discovered and celebrated amongst friends.”

Jefferson Tops Off; Historic Robing, Justin Bieber Sighted, What is Rock Lititz?

Hello Chit Chatters, I hope you had a wonderful week. Winter got real these past few weeks. It was cold, it snowed, but life continues with caution and optimism . One of futures hope is the beautiful, life changing Jefferson Specialty Care Pavilion which held it’s Topping Off Ceremony earlier this week.

Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health topped off a $762 million, 19-floor Specialty Care Pavilion at 11th and Chestnut streets that will eventually become the centerpiece of its Philadelphia campus. One of the

The new facility, spanning approximately 462,000 square feet, will feature:

  • more than 300 exam rooms
  • 58 infusion chairs
  • 10 operating rooms
  • six endoscopy rooms

Designed by renowned architectural firms Ennead Architects and Stantec, the Specialty Care Pavilion will be especially welcoming to aging neurodiverse populations, such as patients with autism and dementia. The building is anticipated to house many of Jefferson’s nationally ranked services in one location, creating unparalleled convenience for patients. The future looks bright. Justin Beiber was spotted in Lancaster County Wednesday according Lancaster Online to (PS I had heard the Beibs was rehearsing at Rock Lititz last week, but was sitting on the story until I wrote about my own visit to Lancaster which I will do on Monday.) He’s at the famed sound stages of Rock Lititz staging his upcoming concert tour, Bieber’s world tour, called “The Justice World Tour 2022” which starts later this month. If you recall right before the pandemic started, he was spotted in Philly at the Rocky Steps, and the Four Seasons, which I wrote about. After his tour was scrapped I mentioned he was headed to Rock Lititz to rehearse his tour then as well. Since then I have visited Lititz to check out the place. It’s very cool, a very large campus of warehouses in which several musicians have come to rehearse their shows before heading out on tour including Katy Perry, Mumford & Sons, Green Day and Ariana Grande to name a few. Next up for Lititz is the Fire and Ice Festival in a few weeks. I wonder if Beiber will stop by. Here’s the INFO

Pennsylvania’s Commonwealth Court welcomed its newest judge as Lori Dumas was sworn in Wednesday during a ceremonial session led by state Supreme Court Justice Kevin M. Dougherty at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

The setting at the Constitution Center was perfect, in the shadow of Independence Hall. The tributes paid to Judge Dumas were moving, and her comments about others who went before her and planted the seeds was monumental (like the first black women elected, Doris A Smith -Ribner Retired of the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania for the United States Supreme Court.) The Russian Ballet Theatre brings ‘Swan Lake’ To Our Area

Russian Ballet Theatre is thrilled to hit the road and tour with Swan Lake for the first time since 2019. Swan Lake is presented by Co-Producers Sasha Gorskaya and Gulya Hartwick. The production team includes Choreographer Nadezhda Kalinina, Production Designer Sergey Novikov, SFX Makeup Designer Irina Strukova, and Principal Ballet Mistress Tatyana Linnik. Prima Ballerina Olga Kifyak will dance the lead roles of Odette (The White Swan) and Odile (The Black Swan) – a unique and bold casting choice for the American 2022 tour. The cast also includes the amazing talents of Evgeny Svetlitsa as Prince Siegfried, Mikhail Ovcharov as Jester, Vasili Bogdan as Rothbart.

Award-winner Irina Strukova’s grand artistry will give a magical touch to this already magnificent production. Known for her film makeup creations (Netflix, HBO, Crazy Rich Asians), Strukova has created hair designs and special effects makeup that, together with the dazzling costumes, further enlighten this whimsical and glittering fantasy.

According to the press release Russian Ballet Theatre’s production of Swan Lake is replete with the visual splendor and virtuoso dancing global audiences have come to expect from classical Russian dance. The 2022 tour delights by pairing time-honored Russian traditions with some delightful new inspirations.

“Although we are telling the classic story of ‘Swan Lake,’ there are tweaks here and there that make the show new and exciting,” said co-producer Gulya Hartwick. “We have all new choreography. Usually there is one jester, we have five of them. We did what we could to make the production more lively and more colorful.”

RBT’s international ballet corps will draw talent from ten different countries for this new tour. The dancers will bring Kalinina’s choreography to life along with new exquisite hand-painted sets and 150 new hand-sewn costumes, all designed by the young, accomplished Sergei Novikov (Mariinsky Theatre, Omsk State Music Theatre, St. Petersburg State Music Hall) in the century-old tradition of the great theatrical masters.

“Swan Lake” takes one of Tchaikovsky’s most popular scores and mixes it with a love story inspired by Russian and German folk tales.

“Swan Lake” will be hitting the stage in each city for one night only. Tickets are now on sale for the dates, which include Sunday, Feb. 13, in Newark, New Jersey, at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center; Tuesday, Feb. 15, in Trenton at the Patriots Theater at the War Memorial; Wednesday, Feb. 16, in Sewell, South Jersey, at Investors Bank Performing Arts Center; and Thursday, Feb. 17, in Reading at the Santander Performing Arts Center. All theaters have amble parking nearby.

On Wednesday, February 16th, Swan Lake dance within minutes of Philadelphia, in South Jersey with a one-night only stop in Sewell, New Jersey at Investors Bank Performing Arts Center. This stop is just minutes from South Philly, over the Walt Whitman Bridge, at a venue that is well-known for hosting local and regional dance and ballet recitals and competitions. Showtime for this performance is 7:30pm. Tickets range $39 to $89. Marilyn Russell, Galentine’s Day Fun, and Migs is Off to Beijing

Bon voyage Marilyn Russell. The legendary radio dj/personality announced on Instagram that she is no longer with WOGL . Marilyn has been with WOGL since January 2017 (I used to be on with her every Friday before the pandmic), when she joined the station’s Breakfast Club broadcast alongside former WOGL hosts Frank Lewish and Bill Zimpfer, who departed the station later that year. (Valerie Knight who was part of the Breakfast Club had been laid off). Marilyn dominated the morning rush hour for several years, before moving to the 11am to 1pm slot, and then to doing just her weekly radio show “Remarkable Women” which aired every Sunday, and was featured on the WOGL website.

Valerie Knight went on to host Weekdays 6AM-10AM on the Breeze 106.1FM. Here’s Valerie and Marilyn Russell at the Kimmel Cultural Campus’ Media Night for Pretty Women: The Musical 2 weeks ago. The longtime Philly radio personality, Marilyn Russell began her Philadelphia broadcasting career in 1993 at WDRE. She was laid off from 95.7 BEN-FM in November 2016, prompting her move to WOGL. Marilyn told her followers she’ll be in Arizona for the time being.

Congrats to my friend Miguel Martinez-Valle who will be covering 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing for @nbcphiladelphia and @telemundo62. Can’t wait to catch his reports.

Around Town: Seen, Scene and To See

I’ve continued to bird watch, but not as enthusiastically as I wish I could as my business has been booming as well. I shot this cutie last week at John Heinz Nature Preserve. We’re so lucky to have this treasure so close to Philly. I can’t be everywhere so on occasion I will post photos and copy from others who have invited me, or attempted to hire me to shoot their event.

On Wednesday, the Thomas Jefferson University fashion merchandising and management (FMM)
students filled the Kanbar Performance Space with a celebration of fashion
streetwear in remembrance of one of their own. The students sold their
original clothing designs and accessories to benefit this year’s charity,
Children’s Miracle Network, which was selected in memory of Karigen Emig,
who tragically died just months after graduating from the program earlier this
year.
“Karigen loved working in the fashion industry and was motivated by the way it
brings together people from different backgrounds, inspires confidence and
creates change in the world. She deeply inspired everyone around her, not only
through her great sense of style, but also through her positive energy,
contagious work ethic, and her infectious smile,” says Julia Wazeter, Karigen’s
best friend and 2021 FMM graduate who, along with Karigen’s parents, will
attend the Pop Up Shop event.

COVID-friendly format, with Santa’s firetruck making stops at several neighborhood locations,

Wednesday night Laura Burkhardt, Executive Director of the Friends of the Avenue of the Arts hosted a Fundraiser at the Dina Wind Art Foundation. It was a lovely evening of shopping with 25% of the proceeds going directly to AAI.

Moving from the Wells Fargo Parking lot, Spectacor Events & Entertainment has jollied the Tinseltown Holiday Spectacular presented by Dietz & Watson to Oaks, Pa. The massive, immersive, one-of-a-kind experience offering a winter wonderland of lights, shopping, and dining will take place from November 26 (Black Friday) through January 2 at the Fairgrounds at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pa.
