Hey ChitChat readers, hope you’re doing well. Ya gotta love this spring weather. Did you have a chance to visit the PHS Flower Show yet. Lots of great exhibits to see, as well flowers, make and take and the popular potting parties.
Earlier this week I stopped by to photograph celebrity chef, author and TV personality Robert Irvine, who was signing bottles of Boardroom Spirits at the PHS Flower Show in the Fine Wine and Spirits section. He also announced to the crowd that in a few weeks he would have his own line of spirits which would be distributed via Boardroom Spirits. First up is a Gin with some of his favorite herbs, spices and botanicals from the kitchen. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the bottles will support the Robert Irvine Foundation, benefiting our military and first responders. Look for Chef Irvine to announce info for his popular dining event Beats & Eats which will be May 18, 2020. (Here are my photos from last year) Boardroom Spirits is a sustainable, family-owned craft-distillery offering unique drinking experiences to consumers. Headquartered in Lansdale, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Ivy is now accepting applications
Thanks to my tipsters who told me Kate Winslet’s HBO TV Series was filming in Roxborough last weekend at the high school and Salvation Army, and in Wissahickon Valley this week.

A Marriage Story on @netflix#NotAChristmasMovie is hard to watch. It’s good, great acting but it’s about a divorce and it’s painful. It’s Kramer vs Kramer for this generation. The star power in this movie made me not look away except when I grabbed tissues. #MovieReview
Finally luck Friday, 13th at 6pm join in the caroling at Barnes & Noble Rittenhouse Square followed by a signing with Renae Baker, author of Defeating Scrooge. Plus B&N offers gift wrapping of items where ever you’ve bought your gift for a donation for the charity doing the wrapping in the vestibule.
I found this cute little shop, which houses independent artists wares, Plants 🌱 Gifts 🛍 Handmade gifts in Rittenhouse Square at 229 S. 20th Street Pop-up Shop Located inside of the Lil’ Pop Shop www.shop-pomelo.com
We’re counting down the weeks until the longest filming project in Philly ends, Dispatches from Elsewhere. In all the years I’ve been covering filming in Philly this is the first production that has been really cool on set for moi to cover, and I thank them. Plus what a great cast, so friendly with us where ever they’ve gone. This will surely be the summer of Segel and Andre 3000.
I’ve purposely been vague about the plot-line of the show as I really want you to watch it when it comes on AMC TV in the first quarter of 2020, a source on the set told me, but I came across this nugget online. You might be picked to be on the show if you complete these tasks. I might do it myself. I do know that a city wide scavenger hunt is part of the plot as a walk on role was auctioned off for this scene back in the spring at the Rittenhouse Row patron party. (Scroll to 2nd photo for directions to be on show.)
The AMC TV Show is filmed in Philly, and is BASED in Philly, as I reported on Fox 29 last week. Yeah for Philly!!
I met PCC reader Mary Goldner and sister Andrea Goldner at William Penn’s 375th Birthday on Friday, and she shared this photo of Sally Field with me when Dispatches shot near 3rd and Vine earlier this month. Another noted tidbit about the photo Andre’ 3000 took the picture for them, but didn’t realize he was the popular singer until later. It’s one of the few Field photos out there with fans. Sally was fairly low key in Philly, only venturing to Whole Foods on South Street and a few dinners at a.kitchen. Thanks to the Goldner sisters who are from a philanthropic family dating back to the 1800s in generosity.
I photographed the Steppingstone Scholars Gala last night and my start time was moved up to 5PM to hash out the details of Q shots. So bummed to miss their wedding at 5:30pm, but so happy for Al and Danielle’s forever life!!
Our area as you know has been hot and happening with major Hollywood movies filming here, but slipping under the radar is a local movie by philanthropist and business man Ray Martin with two household names attached Gervase Peterson of Survivor fame and George Wendt, from Cheers. Ray tells me “You might think this Movie is called Stealing a Survivor because Gervase was on Survivor but this Movie is more then that it’s about a Father and son surviving the loss of there mother and wife and trying to save a family business it’s also about two guys down on there luck who form a friendship that ultimately helps them both. There is also a cast of unforgettable characters that the audience will meet along the way.” Look for the movie to make the festival rounds in 2020. Check out ML Media News for more on the movie which filmed over the summer.
Now we rest after such an active July 4th celebration. Literally I’ve been sleeping the past two days after a whirlwind week. Yesterday I was up and about checking out the wicked storms that rolled through. We can no longer say we don’t live in an area that rarely gets tornadoes now that we’ve had so many and two just yesterday. OK let’s chit chat…
I got a note from Mary Ann Ferrie from Chlöe 232 Arch Street. “We had some special guests for dinner tonight. Tan and Rob France.” Read the story behind how Mary Ann and her husband, Dan Grimes, fell in love in this story on Inquirer.com The Netflik’s series, Queer Eye has been filming in our area the past couple weeks. Last week they filmed in Delco, this week they’re in Powelton Village. They even filmed over the weekend according to Karamo’s Instagram.
Steaks at Stake Del Frisco’s Restaurant Group, Inc. has agreed to be acquired by private equity firm L Catterton. The agreement was unanimously approved by Del Frisco’s board of Directors. The transaction is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2019, subject to approval by Del Frisco’s Restaurant Group stockholders. Last summer DelFrisco’s purchased a company that included Barcelona Wine Bar (there’s one on East Passyunk.) Philadelphia has two Delfrisco branded eateries, one recently opened in the Cambria Hotel on Broad Street, and the one at 15th and Chestnut which just celebrated it’s 10th anniversary (they’re my advertiser as well, nearly 10 years.) AND I just heard that Bryn Mawr’s Marsha Brown, owner of three Ruth Chris’ Steakhouse has sold her stakes in the recently relocated Center City spot at the Sonesta Hotel, the King of Prussia spot (not too far from Nick Foles’ dad’s investment Eddie V’s)and the one she owned in Long Island, NY, back to the corporation. (This story came from a tip, and this article)
What did some of our local celebrities do on July 4th!! Two of our favorite forecaster’s 6ABC’s Cecily Tynan worked the holiday, and in between shifts ran home and enjoyed a family BBQ. Adam Joseph, Karl and the kids hit the beach. (BTW you can click on the photo to see it bigger)
Former star of One Life to Live and General Hospital’s Philly’s own Kristin Aldersonspent the week with her family and friends in Ocean City, NJ. Next weekend in Ocean City is the 65th annual Night in Venice is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2019. 6ABC’s Melissa Magee also spent July 4th at the beach, while Fox29’s Mike Jerrick headed to the July4th concert where he snagged a photo with Meghan Trainor backstage. What a nice dad as Fox29’s Richard Curtis built his kids a tree house.
CBS3’sJim Donovan went from a swim demonstrating that not even water can permeate his ‘do. Brittney Shipp, Tracy Davidson and Vai Sikahema held down the fort at NBC10Philadelphia, Eyewitness news’ Meteorologist Katie Fehlinger gave us JAWN. And we bid bon-voyage to Alex Holley, Fox29 who’s headed to a tropical paradise for a well deserved vacation.
Congrats to Patty Jackson!! See you tomorrow, right here on Philly Chit Chat for more coverage on the parties and people in Philly. Have a great day!!
What a gorgeous weekend. You have got to set away from the computer, the phone, Real Housewives and go outside and enjoy today. One of the best places to see the Cherry Trees today is at the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival of Greater Philadelphia in Fairmount Park, or taking a walk along Locust Street where the cherry trees in the St. Marks garden are blooming, then head to Rittenhouse Square as the trees are bursting with colors.
Over the past year something’s been missing in Philadelphia, especially near City Hall and that something was Philly Jesus. He just disappeared after being such a fixture in our area for the previous 4 years. Yesterday while I was watching the folks run through the fountain, and mist, by the way the mist is back, Michael Grant, aka Philly Jesus walked up to me to say hello. He was dressed in civilian clothes, and was beaming ear to ear. He told me that he had stepped back for nearly a year, Philly Jesus had become a heavy burden. He had to reflect on the message he was putting out there in the name of Jesus. There was a miss step, and a backlash from people who were opened to his message. He made a judgement, instead of a sharing a message of love. He is human, and as humans we make mistakes –
Proverbs 24:16 For the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.
In the 10 months since he stepped back, his father has died, which if anyone has lost a parent, you know what a life changing experience that is; plus he’s fallen in love, in love with a girl that met him while he was dressed as Philly Jesus. They’re ready to settle down, and start a family. But don’t think he isn’t going to spread the word of Jesus, he is still steep in his faith and wants the world to know Jesus loves them. Michael Grant loves them, his message has always been about love for each other, but know we are all human and we sometimes stray from the path of compassion.
As a sober person, and Michael is also sober having gone through Gaudenzia, an organization I work with, I understand his transformation, his spirituality. He told me during the program he took Bible study, and it changed him. He also told me he has been saved from heroin, drug addiction and a life of crime which goes hand in hand with hopelessness. It’s a profound transformation when anyone can escape the evil horror of addiction. I completely understand as someone who has escaped that hell, and became spiritual. To hear more about what Philly Jesus – Michael Grant is doing follow him on Instagram.
What happens when Bryce Harper, Rhys Hoskins, Jake Arietta and other Phillies team members and their wives/girlfriends exit Harp & Crown after dinner on a Thursday night? Sam Zeff gets to check off #selfie with #bryceharper
The Shazza Shop tagged me in an Instagram post to tell me that Netflik’s Queer Eye will be filming in the Philly area from June through September. “this is not a drill! @queereye casting just popped in the shop. they will be filming in philly + burbs (within an hour) from june through september. to nominate a hero, send an email to QECASTING@ITV.COM. spread the word. so exciting for the city! #queereye#yay” _ Ok now I’m really looking forward to summer. Can we get them for the Gay Pride Parade in June? If you spot someone tell us, and I’ll tell you. BTW an original Queer Eye guy Carson Kressley will once again lead the judging panel for the fabulous Ladies Hat Day Contest at the Devon Horse Show May 29, 2019.
If you follow me at Social Media you know yesterday I covered the WDAS Women of Excellence Awards. Philly’s own Eve was honored a long with a host of beautiful Queens. I’ll have those photos up later this week. Last night her family hosted a party for family and friends at her dad, Ron Wilch’s shop, The Wardrobe Clinic in Center City. Spotted at the party was Marcus Allen, executive director of Big Brother Big Sister (above with his daughter Lainey), Thanuju Hamilton (no doubt taking a 1000 selfies) and Quincy Harris, tune into The Q Show on Monday for details. On Wednesday out own CBS3Philly’s Ukee Washington will be on The Talk, where Eve is one of the co-hosts. I honestly love that show and watch it every day. Those gals really get along, and have informative conversations.

I’ve heard more than one rumor that a re-start of the movie “Mortal Kombat” is to begin filming in Philadelphia in April. Additional rumors are that it will star Ryan Reynolds, Vin Diesel, Megan Fox, Ronda Rousey, and Michael Jai White. Write Greg Russo tweeted today that everything is in place except for the OK by Warner Brothers. **
That’s Nearly A Wrap as M. Night Shyamalan ‘s untitled 10 part Apple TV Series completed scenes with principle actors Rupert Grint and Lauren Ambrose on the 1600 block of Locust Street at St. Mark’s today. I’m told there are still a few smaller scenes to shoot, but not with the two stars. Night’s last project – Glass, which also filmed here, is still on the big screen. A huge success it’s brought in: $244,167,957 worldwide to date.

Eric Roberts in Philly on the set of The Arrangement, here he’s with Susan Helfrich, co-owner of Breaking Glass Pictures. Filmed on location throughout Philadelphia (including sets in University City and King of Prussia) by local father/son filmmakers Andrew Hunsicker (producer) and Jake Hunsicker (director), The Arrangement is a supernatural thriller following two detectives as they attempt to solve a string of murders. But, as they get closer to the truth, they begin to discover the culprit may be something other than human. The film stars cinema legend Eric Roberts, who graced Philadelphia this weekend to film intricate scenes, alongside local talent including Aralyn Anderson (Netflixâs Maniac), Deborah Twiss, Brian Anthony Wilson, Jennifer M. Kay, Danny Donnelly, Beverly Gunn, and Allison Kessler. Fresh off filming of the locally produced horror film Epidemic, Andrew Hunsicker also plays a supporting role in the film, while guiding his son Jake on his first directing venture. A modern-day retelling of Faust, The Arrangementâs cast and crew is also entirely comprised of Philadelphia talent aside from Mr. Roberts, a truly fitting testament to the local film scene and the city’s dedication to cinema. The Arrangement is set to complete filming this year.
