Sinking Springs films, Spotted: Ridley Scott, Tara Lipinski and Jason Kelce

Tuesday night @jason.kelce and his very pregnant wife Kylie, dined @mikesolomonov @zahavrestaurant with another couple. When he walked in the servers and diners clapped as he was led to his table. He acknowledged the appreciation, then enjoyed dinner uninterrupted. I wrote on my Instagram last night. (I love when I hear about these heartwarming moments, thanks to a reader) Later I learned …

He did pose with one of his favorite chefs, Michael Solomonov who reminded his readers about Underdogs, Jason’s clothing line, where the proceeds go to the BePhillyFoundation

Oatly Launches Plant-Based Cream Cheese with Philadelphian Tara Lipinski. Oatly, the world’s original and largest oatmilk company, unveiled their new plant-based cream cheese invented in Philadelphia by mostly Philadelphia-based food scientists with Philadelphia native and Olympian Tara Lipinski. As part of this pre-launch release, Oatly has partnered with local Philadelphia bagel chains Spread Bagelry and Philly Bagels, who are now serving Oatly’s Philadelphia-invented cream cheese today through March 31st (or until supplies last). No doubt they launched in Philly because where else, the staple Philadelphia Cream Cheese is so synonymous with our City, but they say it’s “this is the first time Oatly has embarked on a limited pre-launch strategy in one particular city. The hope is that Philadelphians adopt Oatly’s cream cheese the same way they’ve adopted other hometown staples like greased street poles, Gritty and the 2006 film Invincible.

Filming of Sinking Springs continues tonight on 2nd Street in Old City.

I mentioned last year that Ridley Scott would be filming his Apple TV Series “Sinking Springs” in the beginning of February, and he did, turning University City into PhillyWood for a week starting on February 7.

“Sinking Spring” is a crime drama series, that stars Oscar nominee Brian Tyree Henry and “Better Call Saul” star Michael Mando as long-time friends posing as DEA agents and robbing a seemingly normal country house in the small town of Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania. They unwittingly get caught up in a major crime operation.

The cast also includes Marin Ireland, from Amazon’s “Sneaky Pete” and Netflix’s “Umbrella Academy”; and Kate Mulgrew from Netflix’s “Orange Is The New Black.”

I have a busy night tonight, but I am going to try and capture some of the action in Old City tonight. It’s an over night shoot, normally I would scout out a location to spend the night, but I am shooting the Philly Home Show at 8AM so I can’t do that like I did for 21 Bridges hiding, er I mean scouting out from the 2nd floor window of Unite Fitness.

According to the Apple Insider: The most interesting thing about the series so far is its massive budget – the pilot episode alone cost over $50 million. That is almost as much as the budget of the entire first season of Game of Thrones! Season 1 of the HBO hit cost around $50-60 million, which breaks down to $5-6 million per episode. The pilot episode was filmed for two weeks in Bucks County according to Levittown Now, the money was used to rent out an entire town including the police force, fire department. According to World of Reel, that $50 million went on two weeks of shooting. Apple is said to have rented out a whole town, including hiring its police and fire department, and to have blown up a house.

If you capture any photos, send them to us at hughe@phillychitchat.com and we will publish them. I love car chases, and no doubt this one is going to be a fun one. BTW roads are closed in the area, and bus routes are re routed. Check with Septa for Info.

And follow me on Instagram for more current content. Have a great day. Enjoy this weather. xo HughE

PhillyToDo: Banksy is Here at The Fashion District

The Ribbon Cutting of the Banksy’s Exhibit

Earlier this month street artist Banksy’s unauthorized exhibit opened in Philly.

Fever and Exhibition Hub produces the exhibition and includes over 80 original works, sculptures, installations, videos and photos including the now classics of the artist (presumed to be British), like the essential “Girl with Balloon”, similar to the one destroyed by the artist at the auctioneer Sotheby’s in London, his portrait of Lenin,

the “Fallen Angels” smokers cigarette or his explosive “Monkey Detonator”. Banksy has questioned the rules of the game of contemporary art and is considered today as one of the main figures of street art. These pieces come from private collections as well as in collaboration with Lilley Fine Art/Contemporary Art Gallery.

There are two spots inside the exhibit where you can let your Banksy energy flow with a bit of stenciling and graffiti.
There’s a gift shop at the end of the tour, right after you try out the VR experience.

Sugar Factory Closes? Natalie Dormer spotted Filming Audrey’s Children & Iroquois Returns

Thanks to Nicole Michalik for tipping me off on the possible closing of Sugar Factory on Chestnut Street in Center City.

I headed over yesterday to see for myself, and sure enough there is a sign on the window saying “Closed Permanently”

They were always packed so I was surprised they closed this spot. I see the named key chains were popular.

If they have indeed closed, someone needs to jump on this beauty of event space.

I called to confirm, but no one answered. Open Table says they’re having plumbing problems. Calendar is taking reservations for 10/2/22. Cross your fingers, they will return.

In spring 2022, the Association for Public Art (aPA) temporarily removed Mark di Suvero’s Iroquois sculpture from Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway for major conservation restoration. Acquired and installed by aPA in 2007 thanks to the generous support of the late David Pincus, the red-orange I-beam sculpture was in need of a thorough paint job after 15 years of being exposed to the elements, which left the surface faded, chipped, and worn. This week the Iroquois returns with a fresh, brighter look as part of a PA’s 150th anniversary.

Thanks to my husband, Mike Toub for taking this shot Audrey’s Childre of Natalie Dormer filming on 9/13/22 at the future home of the African American Museum at 18th and Vine.

I’ve been so busy, I haven’t had a chance to photograph the latest movie filming in Philly, thank you to my readers for your tips:

Audrey’s Children“, a biopic about the incredible true story of Dr. Audrey Evans, co-founder of the original Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia in 1974!

For an entire week it filmed only a few blocks from my house. On Sunday it filmed around City Hall. I hear it’s soon going inside buildings to get “hospital scenes.”

“In 1970 when nearly all children with cancer die, an unconventional and brilliant oncologist breaks all the rules in an effort to revolutionize treatment methods and to provide housing and support to families of sick children,” reads the film’s IMDb page

Gilded Age Films In Town, Donna Summer Sings Sunday, then fireworks at Rivers Casino

This week Philadelphia has once again transformed into Phillywood as another series is filming in our town. The Gilded Age is an American historical drama television series created and written by Julian Fellowes for HBO that is set in the United States during the Gilded Age, the boom years of the 1880s in New York City. The series premiered on January 24, 2022.[2] In February 2022, the series was renewed for a second season.[3] It has received mostly positive reviews, with particular praise for the costumes, cast and performances of lead actors Carrie Coon, Morgan Spector , Cynthia Nixon, Audra McDonald and Christine Baranski. Filming for the 2nd season began in Cohoes, NY in August, 2022.

And has made a stop in Philadelphia as well. I spotted folks in period pieces outside the Academy of Music on Thursday. Readers tell the they’ll be there for the next week filming interior scenes for the popular series. The Academy of Music, on the Kimmel Cultural Campus, has been mentioned several times in the Gilded Age as the famed opera house in Philadelphia.
On set this week is Douglas Sills: Monsieur Baudin, and Celia Keenan-Bolger: Mrs. Bruce

Adam Sandler Attends ‘Hustle’ Premiere with Mom; M Night Parties with Jonathan Groff

Hollywood came to Philly last night at the Philadelphia Film Center on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 as Adam Sandler, Kenny Smith, Juancho Hernangomez walked the red carpet for the screening of Hustle, directed by Philly’s own Jeremiah Zagar (I saw his first film, it was about his dad mosaic artist Isaiah Zagar and mom Julia, about 12 years ago.)

Judy Sandler and son, actor Adam Sandler

Speaking of mom’s, Adam brought his mom Judy Sandler to the screening in Philly, which brought all the headline attention from around the globe to the Philly showing of Hustle, which had already screened in LA and NYC. Thanks Adam!!

Hustle is streaming on Netflik’s now. I would definitely watch it again, if not for the story, which was fun, and funny, but the co-star PHILADELPHIA was beautiful!!! – movie review

Tierra Whack, a Philadelphia Rapper who makes a cameo in Hustle.
Tobias Harris and Jasmine Winton

Speaking for Tobias Harris, his BFF operates Crumbl Cookies in Wynnewood, earlier this week actor Rupert Grint stopped by for a few treats. (Last night he was spotted at Lola’s Garden. My friends tells me he posed for a few photos with fans, but mostly enjoyed his meal) He’s in the area finishing up M. Night Shyamalan movie “Knock at the Cabin”, which is filming mostly in the Philly burbs, although they have filmed a few times in South Philly. I haven’t done my normal sleuthing as I’ve been overwhelmed with the very hot, hot social season which is happening right now.

Speaking of hot, around town guy Kevin McKeown (l) ran into actors Jonathan Groff and Ben Aldridge near Rittenhouse Square yesterday. They’re also here for Night’s movie “Knock on the Cabin”, which had it’s wrap party Saturday night at Harper’s Garden sources tell me. The film wraps this upcoming Friday. Maybe Groff will stop by the Bike Stop again for a farewell drink?

Rupert Grint Spotted, M Night New Movie, Shakespeare Book Store,

Good Monday morning. I hope you had a fantastic weekend. It seems a bit cooler this spring, but the beautiful colors have inspired all of us to go out and enjoy the day. Folks have been writing me to ask what is currently being built on the Art Museum Steps, it’s The Philadelphia Show (4/29 – 5/1)

Guess who I just met todayyyy! Rupert Grint (aka Ron Weasley) from “Harry Potter”! He’s gonna be in town for a little while cuz he’s filming a new movie. So, I was at the zoo, checking out the red pandas and all of a sudden, him, his girlfriend, and their baby were right next to me, checking out the red pandas too! I saw Rupert and I thought to myself “No. freaking. way. Rupert Grint’s actually here! And he’s right next to me!” (Instagram)

Rupert Grint has been in town for a bit of time filming M Night’s popular Apple TV series Servant, which is filming it’s final season, season 4. I just finished watching season 3 on Apple and am shook, can’t wait for season 4. Night has stopped production on Servant at episode 6 to begin filming his new movie “Knock at the Cabin”, starring Grint, Dave Bautista and Nikki Amuka-Bird. He will resume filming Servant in mid summer I was told, where he will film at his custom studio in Garnett Valley as well as on location on the 2100 block of Spruce Street. As I wrote on my Instagram 3/16/22, filming for Knock at the Cabin will be done in the Philly area, as well as in South NJ my sources tell me.

Say it ain’t so. Shakespeare & Co. has lost it lease and is now looking for space? What a unique bookstore. Sad to see it has to move. With all the empty store fronts the landlord couldn’t work on keeping them here? Such nice owners and staff too. Hope they find a suitable location.

Let’s Go Sixers!!

What Philly Wore Week of April 10th

Hello readers, this past week I started a new series on Instagram “What Philly Wore” , which has turned out to be fairly popular. I was thinking on Fridays or Saturday I will post some of my favorite shots of What Philly Wore on ChitChat. I love the photo above. I stopped by the newly opened Van Leeuwen Ice Cream spot near Rittenhouse Square. Fox 29’s Good Day Alex Holley was “celebrating” her birthday with a namesake ice cream flavor, lavender birthday cake, probably not the official name but what I was tasting. It was delicious. The photo above are people waiting to come inside, with Sofia Pignitor, Cashman & Associates looking on (left).

How wonderful: One of the first photos I shot was this person walking down the street with angel wings on. If that wasn’t a sign of success, I don’t know what is…

If you write me like this young man, I will send you your photo….

A neatly and stylishly dressed man can be described as dapper.

Shoe Power with orange accent hair

These two didn’t know each other before I took this photo, but they do have similar taste. (WDAS Women of Excellence)

We are less than one month away from the second annual AACR Day of Giving. Save the date for May 6 as the entire AACR community comes together to raise critical funds for cancer research. Visit the link in our bio and help us reach our goal of 250 donors by donating. #researchsaveslives

The filming of a commercial in Rittenhouse Square. Not sure if it was part of the big production filmed in No Libs and Old City earlier this week, but thanks to my readers for tipping me off.

At the Young Friends Soiree at Barnes Foundation Thursday 4/14/22: Trell and Jus Rome

Never too much to wear something that makes others go wow. I wish I wasn’t running so late to dinner to meet Brandon Szeker at Mixto (hadn’t been there in a decade, still as delicious as ever), cause we all want to know where was she going dressed like this on a Tuesday night. She had just paid for parking.

What are you doing for dinner this weekend, how about Louie Louie

Two shereos who save lives through their work: Sheryl Lee Ralph, actress, activist and part time Philly resident who’s been married to Sen. Vincent Hughes for nearly 20 years (2005) and Dr. Ala Stanford, founder of the Black Doctors COVID19 Consortium both were honored at the WDAS Women of Excellence luncheon.

Tulip Season

Thank You: The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society planted 70,000 bulbs in Philadelphia’s iconic Logan Square this past fall season which are now reaching their peak bloom. They will wrap this iconic Philadelphia location in a beautiful array of rainbow colors, welcoming the spring season. These blooms are now at their peak and are expected to retain their beauty (depending on weather) through April 22, 2022.

Hey people hope you are well today. Beautiful sunrise today. I’m so annoyed I heard there was a chance to see the Northern Lights last night, but I didn’t look.
